it wouldn't shock me if hank was here beyond his current contract, if he doesn't get traded. I don't see him signing with another team after the deal is up if he's still a ranger...

we currently have an issue to deal with having 3 goalies and trying to find enough playing time between shesty and georgiev to determine who we want to keep long term as the heir to the king. but one way or the other that will resolve itself over the next 2 years. so you easily could end up with hank finishing up his career as the backup behind either shesty or georgiev, which I think was always the plan for shesty befor georgiev threw himself into the mix.

whoever between the 2 russians doesn't get the nod will be dealt since they'd have more value in a trade then a near 40 year old hank

This is a league that employs Mike Smith, Jake Allen and Brian Elliot. Scott Darling gets paid by an NHL team to not play in the NHL. Lehtonen is an alumni.

The need for 62 good goalies is legit. More and more tandums. Injuries all the time, but races are artificially tight because of the loser point. So everyone is in it. The market will be there.

The question is if Hank is willing to go. There is a balance between moving in the summer, which is better for the family but worse for a team with his cap hit, or moving at the TDL where the opposite is true. It's not easy. But it also isnt about maximizing a return or a bidding war.
As long as he doesn't go to the Islanders, Devils or Habs, IDGAF. I'll root for whatever team it is.

I think he is willing, to be honest. I think it is in the best interest for both parties.

Signing Karlsson would be a very bad idea.

Signing Karlsson because Hank wants him would be a bottom 5 all time decision.

Hence- I don't see it as altogether likely. It's very inconsistent with the message of waiting for the right time.

An absolute disaster in the making. Hope they don’t even bother with negotiations.

Why do the Rangers have to align their goals and plan with their 37 year old goaltender?

Their goals and plans are different. Both sides say the right things. There is tension under the surface. JD knows there is an issue there. It’s ridiculous because Hank is just a player. JD made the Lundqvist comments on Michael Kay’s show. I was watching it live on YES. They should have pushed him to give more details. Ask him a follow up.

This has been going on for a while. Lundqvist made those comments to Weekes before he left for Slovakia. He wants to know what will be his role and their plan for the team.

Lundqvist made comments to the Swedish media when he arrived in Slovakia. He sent Brooks an email to clarify what he said. We know what he said. He questioned the Rangers commitment to him.

Lundqvist wants to start nearly every game and he wants the Rangers to acquire his buddies like Karlsson. He doesn’t want to split the games or play less than 50% of the games. His years are winding down and he doesn’t want to finish out his career playing on a rebuilding team which is what the Rangers are.

JD told Gorton to keep pushing the rebuild.

There is an issue here. They can say the right things. The Rangers have Georgiev and Shesterkin. Lundqvist was awful in the 2nd half. He was terrible in the World Championships for Sweden. His save % was .88. He is no position of strength to start demanding things from the Rangers.

The Rangers owe Lundqvist nothing. Hank is lucky he got the 7 year contract extension from the Rangers. The Rangers didn’t want to give him 7 years. They were looking at 4 or 5. The contract would have been done next month if it was 5 years.

I think you misread the message.

The conversation is to make sure that HANK aligns his goals with the teams. Not the other way around

I think we need to add the caveat that it's signing Karlsson to a high cap hit and max term contract that is the bad idea.

It's not necessarily signing him that's the problem, it's the terms we're all assuming it would take. Fully hypothetically, but if he would take a 4 year deal, signing him wouldn't be a bad idea.

The Rangers aren't going to trade Hank unless he asks to be moved. Gorton and JD dont want a Leetch situation possibly tarnishing their legacy. Hank asking for a deal is the better situation for the Rangers. They'd get to set the terms and tell Hank that he might need to be flexible with his destinations for contenting teams. Calgary isn't a desirable destination for Hank, but it might be one of the few teams interested in his services.

Do I think that request gets made this summer? No, but it could come at the deadline if the team is terrible and Hank is losing more starts to Georgie and Igor. The Rangers won't get a lot in a trade even at 50% retention. The deal will be about a final favor to a Rangers legend and turning the page on his tenure here. The Ray Bourque path.

Do you really think Sathers legacy is tarnished because he traded a fading player?

Please...

That's not even one of the top ten things I think of when getting mad at Sather.

I actually applaud those tougher decisions. I don't want any player here longer than their usefulness.

I don't care how beloved they are/were.

If they are not helping, they are hurting and it's time to cut the cord.

Hank here hurts the progression of Geo and possibly Shesty.

Bye Felicia

Mr. RangerBoy, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this message board is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Who ever said that the Rangers were going to align their plans and goals after what Hank wants?

Rangers is in need of a vet goalie for next season. You need someone who can share the duties with Geo. It’s potential Hank can fill a role for NYR next season. If things work out as planned, the year after that is questionable.

Is Hank on board to play that role? That is what JD must talk with him about. If he is not, he will be traded/retire. There are no alternatives.

What is the upside in dealing him? You take back like Luongos three year deal and retain on Hank to get a 2nd round pick? Nothing major is coming back to us.

The biggest upside there is..our next goalie

Last season Hank and Georgiev had about similar production. Hank was better until Christmas and Georgiev the 2nd half. Georgiev has been better at the WC although the game Sweden got eliminated was a weird one for sure. I played goalie many years on an established level and saw how the Swedish D really played poorly with weird bounces also in that specific game. I would imagine that Georgiev turns the table next year and becomes the better goalie. Shesty looks like the real deal. Something will give...

IMO Hank 'lost the edge' after the whole TDL fiasco and losing Zucc. A lot of the players fell off. KZZ line was tearing it up, then a week before the TDL it seemed like, to me at least, everyone began to mope, in anticipation of the moves.
