There is no way Lee is getting 6 mil. There is no way Kreider is getting less than 6 mil. Lee is one of the best goal scorers in the NHL. He will get between 7-8 mil per. Unless he takes a super team-friendly Isles deal.
No way? Hmm i guess we’ll see.

Lee is going to be 29 years old in a month or two. Stone just turned 27. Is it really that crazy to think Lee may just get $6.5 mil aav per if he wants more term? He is not on Stone’e level. He won’t even sniff $8 million unless Chiarelli was just hired to ruin another organization.

Kreider at $5.8-$6.5.

there isn't. this isn't a salary dump. if the pens trade him it would be only for a monster return to essentially rebuild the entire team on the fly to keep trying to win with crosby. the cost in picks and young players would make people's head explode

They are not getting a monster return for a 33 yeard old oft injured guy that makes over 9 per for three more years.

To get him and Bob, they’d have to move Luongo, Hoffman and then some.

They have to replace McGinn and Sheahan. If they do so with salary minimums, their cap space goes from 8.6 to 7.1. Then they have to move Hoffman and Luongo and possibly Reimer to get it done. No one is taking Luongo’s deal and is Luongo going to leave about 15 million on the table by retiring? I doubt that.

So either they both take less than market value to play there or it doesn’t happen.

Edit: they also have to take back ZERO salary in each of those trades (Luongo, Hoffman and Reimer) to make it work.

Luongo is owed 3.618 mil, not 15 mil, over the next 3 years. He's 40 years old and has been dealing with injuries the last number of years. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he ends up on permanent LTIR.

If they can dump Reimer, they can make it work.

I don't know what they will do but I would personally take issue with the league permitting Luongo to go on LTIR considering he was healthy enough to play out the remainder of this season even with meaningless games and did not have offseason surgery of any kind.

It's true that older guys don't usually get that much.

Fedorov was dealt at 33 for peanuts. Same with Jagr. Dunno where we went wrong with MSL.

Someone mentioned the Staal trade. MSL chaps my arse more. He had what, 2 years of competitive hockey left in him and demanded NYR only as his destination and we gave Yzerman who had ZERO leverage, a still productive Callahan plus 2x 1st's. Terrible.

Yzerman had a lot of leverage.

And he didn't give up two firsts. He gave up a first and a conditional first/second and also got a conditional second back in return.

Odd. this article claims after everything shook out it was NYR (MSL + 2nd) and TBL (Callahan + 1st +1st) due to conditions being met.

What leverage did Yzerman have anyway? I'm pretty sure MSL said he wouldn't report if traded to anywhere by NYR and he was done as a TBL due to the World Cup snub.

Quenneville said Tallon and Luongo will be meeting next week to discuss Luongo's future.

The Panthers are spending up to the upper limit. They are have their meetings in a couple of weeks.

It was always the second first round pick that bugged me about the MSL trade.

But at the same time, it’s not all that dissimilar than what the Zucc trade had a chance to become.

I think Carp has a bit of that contrarian approach. He provokes fans intentionally but it tends to bleed into his opinions. If you have a guy like Buchnevich or Deangelo, who the fans rally behind and blame the coach for short comings, Carp will point out every time a Glass or coach favorite does well. I think Carp then drinks his own koolaid and starts to dislike the buchneviches.

He could be right with his sources or he could just not like the guy.

I would love to see a trade for Zadorov. Avs might not be able to pay him and he's an absolute monster that this d corps could use.

Why wouldn't they be able to pay him? They have 37 mil in cap space and other than him and Rantanen, no significant free agents.

The leverage is they could have just not traded him. There is very very rarely a “no leverage” situation. I can’t think of even one. If Adam Fox said he would only sign with the Rangers (which he did not) that would have been one such scenario for Carolina almost.

And you can’t judge the conditions after the fact. They traded Callahan a 1st and something like 75% chance of a 2nd/25% chance a 1st for MSL and x% chance of a 2nd. Ignoring the 7th.

The fact that they ended up losing two 1sts is a good thing since it means they made the final.

John G is another Karlsson guy. He brought him up to Dave Maloney on a podcast towards the end of the season. Maloney said it was a terrible idea. John is clueless. He brings up all of these free agents.
I like to see contrarian ideas even if I don't completely agree with the assessment. Smart people with an open mind generally do.

Be careful, I mentioned the same thing and was jumped for it. He’s not pretty as far as advanced stats but the guy plays a mean game. Something this team could use more of.

Yeah, he's definitely not pretty but this team is soft as baby shit and at the right price he could be a great fit with the smaller puck movers on the right side.

Just going on what I'm hearing out here. Think he could be a great fit for the Rangers, but it's obviously cost depending.

I think they have a bit of an internal cap and would be looking to utilize their money elsewhere from what I have read as well.

31 will love this but I’ve brought up a guy like Petrovic if they can move either Pionk or Shattenkirk on a 1 or 2 year deal.

The problem with Trouba is, should he be dangled out there, is that 30 other teams are going to pick up the phone and try to get him. I'm not sure the Rangers should give up the copious assets that it's going to take to trade for a 50 pt. RD. It's going to take A LOT to get him and add up to significant cost.
Trouba’s price will not nearly be as much as thought. It will be a rental price. Either full season rental or partial. He’s not signing with 30 teams, so suddenly across the board it will be rental offers. It’s funny how that happens every year. People say so and so has 30 teams interested. But meanwhile, there are only 2-4 teams they feel they have a shot to keep him long term, 1-3 of those teams might be willing to trade more than a rental price to get him early for a playoff and about 10 teams interested as a rental.
Guys with one year left simply don’t return much unless they come with an extension, but unless your a contender and want the player for this years run (ala stone), or if your in the rangers position where (where it stands today) have no reason to pay premiums for his services next year.
