Blues cycle the puck so well. It looks like the sharks are stickhandling with oven mitts in their own end.

Hobbled Karlsson just had the 3rd highest 5v5 assist rate in the league during the regular season this year.

The whole "hobbled" thing is a false narrative. He actually had one of his best seasons this year.

In fact, since his ankle injury he is 2nd among all defensemen in pts/60 (behind Weber) and 1st in assist rate. The injury is over with and I don't know why it gets repeated. It has not affected his production at all.
I wasn’t referring to his injury, and I don’t know that the other poster was either. He just seems a little slow and he’s getting lit up all over the ice.

It's mostly just that Martin Jones has not been making any saves with him on the ice.

I'm not ragging on the guy - he's clearly feeling better and better as the playoffs move along. Not a guy I'd sign for 7 years at whatever ludicrous $ amount he's going to command, but he's still a hell of a player when healthy.

Jones has been fine from game 4 1st round on.

Go ahead and give him the big contract. You’re definitely in the minority’ here.

I don’t want to sign him.

But I also think it’s false that he’s being hindered by an injury. His production before/after hasn’t changed.

It's not really his production that has fallen off, but at least with the injury, he has blown coverage and been chasing the play at times

Arizona was very interested in Shattenkirk in the the summer/fall of 2016. Shattenkirk didn’t want to sign an extension with the Coyotes. Would they be interested in Shattenkirk again? They would get him at a cheaper price.

Edmonton was interested in Shattenkirk. He isn’t going there. He has a 10 team trade list. Edmonton is definitely on it. Hall for Shattenkirk. He wouldn’t sign an extension with Edmonton.

TB was interested. He rejected a contract extension from TB. 6 years and $42M. No state income tax. Shattenkirk should have signed that contract. Tyler Johnson for Shattenkirk. TB has too many bad long term contracts.

Would Yzerman want him in Detroit? He tried to acquire him in TB.

SJ was interested many years ago. Shattenkirk and Oshie to SJ for a 1st round pick(Timo Meier) and a roster player. Pavelski? They have Burns and Karlsson. They want to keep Karlsson.

Las Vegas tried to get Karlsson. Would they be interested in Shattenkirk? McPhee has many long term contracts on his books too.
Pretty sure the rangers are keeping Shattenkirk. I assume the rangers won't send him anywhere he doesn't want to go. Surely they'd move him were it a win-win situation. But I wouldn't bank on that happing. Seems far-fetched. I'm just hoping he bounces back.

Yes you don`t move players on all time low value @egelband - they hope he will bounce back next year, and show more skills and I`ve a notion that Kevin S. will be better next year.

Boston signed a 1C like in Savard for 4 years. Chara was a 5 year deal. Boston had more vets in their line-up when they signed those guys.

Chara wasn't just a 1D either. He was a 40 point shutdown dmen that owned teams defensively. We don't have a dmen like Chara who can eat up 30 minutes a night.

When you look at the length of those contracts with the way their team was structured, it was definitely quite different than what we're going through right now. I get the analogy. Same same, but different.

*Just looked at Boston's 2006 roster. Jesus ****ing christ.
What is different about the team's structure? They went into the 2006-07 season with an average age of 27.8. Krejci 20, Bergeron 21, Wideman 23, Toivonen 22, Boyes 24, (less notably Nate Thompson 22, Mark Stuart 22, Jurcina 22, Kobasew 24.) They drafted Phil Kessel 5th overall (and Lucic/Marchand) literally a week before signing Chara and Savard.

Every year we are told scouting is better so the past is irrelevant and it never pans out that way. Maybe very marginally. The difference is that you're now judging hyped up scouting reports to players whose reality you saw in their prime. But when they are 19, you assume every kid will only get better and their ceiling will be their reality no later than their 21-22 birthday. By the time you realize you're wrong, you're onto the next hyped up scouting report.

When Del Zotto scored 37 points as a teenage rookie defenseman and Grachev was hyped to no end, they were proof that 2008 scouting was great unlike 1998 or 1988 scouting. Today, MDZ and Grachev are viewed as proof of the failure of scouting a decade ago.

In a decade, you'll think the same thing about how 2019 scouting is awful.
Give it up already would you. You’ve made your point

There have not been 3 UFAs as good as EK, JT, and the breadman ever before. That’s fact. Players of that caliber never ever made it to free agency unless it was in their early 30s. So come on. Poll the entire NHL and they’d be lying if they said otherwise

Historically
Give me 2 free agents (under 30) better than Erik Karlsson
Name me 3 free agents “ “ better than John tavares
And finally
Name me 5 free agents “ “ better than Artemi Panarin.

Good luck with it

Lastly funny how 11.5per is the number for some of these posters here. Hellbent On discussing from a parameter they’ve set.

I almost got dragged into it two nights ago but I saw a lot of posters callings these guys out for this stuff. It’s enough already. 5-6 more weeks of this and YOUse might be on everyone’s ignore list

The plan this year should be play Chytil , Howden , Andersson at C behind Zib them see at years end how it worked out

Strome can fill in and even Nieves on the 4th line

They are gonna beca lottery team again so embrace playing the kids
I could care less about who centers the 4th line as long as it is not one of Chytil , Howden or Andersson. Let Andersson center the third line and Chyytil and Howden man the 2C & LW role. Strome can roam around the middle two lines as a wing and fill in at center in case of injuries.

They had a lot more vets. Stuart and Mara on the blueline. Murray, Sturm, Donovan, Axelsson. They had young players but they also had a lot more veterans throughout their lineup than our team.

If they go that route then someone’s playing the wing out of those 3 kids
