Eh, I wouldn't rule out a trade up at all. If someone the Rangers like falls between like 13-15, then I can easily see it.

Plus, Kreider can still be a traded for like a mid 1st round pick or so.

Kreider yes. Good luck trading up to 13-15.

If you had pick 11 or 12 would you be happy to trade down to 20 and pick up 2 picks in 40/50 range? I wouldn't. I'd probably stay put and go BPA.

that is a good deal for a team trading down at 20 they will get a very good player.

But they could get a better player at 11 or 12.

yes that's the idea, but it doesn't mean it will work, the team trading down would have 3 players all with a chance of being better NHLers than the one who is better looking now.

Nill talks Zuccarello at 3:20.

I thought it was interesting and it looks like the GM was excited. And I thought they did well in playoffs so could be interesting to see how
they are doing next season, and who Dallas sign in this summer window to improve their team for the next year playoffs push in the west.
It`s a no income tax state so maybe it`s ideal for him to sign in Dallas only based on economy reasons.

Who are they talking about?

Could be anyone. This is the thing with videos like this. It's impossible to figure out because every team talks about almost every player especially in the 1st round. Similarly, players who go high in the draft will be interviewed by almost every team at the combine. Not because they think they have a chance to draft him but it's nice to have a file on a player if that player is acquired in a trade or through free agency a few years from now. By interviewing a guy like Rasmus Dahlin last year, you don't have to ask all those questions in the event of him being available through trade. I think Kravtsov was interviewed by all 31 teams last year.

The same goes for these meetings. They discuss every prospect you see in 1st round rankings/mocks in the event of a team trading down, or a player falling, or a player being on the block years from now. Do your due diligence now and be ready for anything that comes at you in the next 5-10 years when it comes to these players

Yeah that is the theory.

Its the same with out 2nd overall pick, an offer of 4 and 16 isn't bad at all for the 2. I still w0uldn't bet on Gorton making the trade, not because say Turcotte and say Seider in theory should have less value than Kakko, but because you often you just want the best kid.

I think you need to be lucky and find a GM that doesn't like what is available in a range a pick is. You know, a GM feeling like we got the 15th pick and lets pray to god that either X, Y or Z will be available there -- and X, Y and Z are drifted 13, 14 and 15...

That's not how it works.

The player picked at 11-12 has a much higher % chance of panning out and becoming a quality NHL'r than #20.

Moreover, the 2 second rounders have less than a 50% chance of even MAKING the NHL, let alone becoming quality players.

No team should be so stupid as to do that trade. And if they are, we should jump on it.

Have some serious curiosity about how much of the GM/coaching staff JD is comfortable leaving in place. He has his own crew in Columbus, some of which were with him in St. Louis. If he thinks he’s bringing Torts back to NYC he can gtfo

Better chance, yes. "Much higher % chance"? I'd like to see those numbers - ie... how many draft picks at 12 and at 20 played 200 NHL games. I'll bet the gap isn't as wide as you think.

in addition to gather info, i think teams interview almost everyone so its less obvious to other teams who they want...doesn't really matter at #2 cause everyone knows who you are taking. but with later picks you don't want teams knowing how you want when you are trying to trade up or a team looking to trade to jump ahead of you etc...

it also is helpful when after the draft you can always claim that you got the guy at the top of your list lol

I can absolutely see a team like MIN that made a push that failed and now sees itself in need of kickstarting a rebuild being open to trading 12 for 20+49+58. (Or, alternatively, something like 20 + a prospect.)

Would the Panthers be a fit for Kevin Shattenkirk?

George Richards covers the Panthers for The Athletic. He wrote this yesterday.

Tallon has also said he wants to bring in another top-four defenseman, with his preference being for a right-handed shot who can move the puck and play a little better defense than Florida saw from its top-end guys last year.

This addition may come through a trade instead of via free agency and Tallon has some pieces to work with including two players (Mark Pysyk and Mike Hoffman) who can become free agents after this coming season and could be available.

Hoffman has a $5,187,500 cap hit. $5,650,000 salary.

Pysyk has a $2,733,333 cap hit. $3,500,000 salary.

Shattenkirk has a $6,650,000 cap hit. His salary is $6,600,000 this coming season and $4,000,000 in the last season of his contract.

Colton Sceviour has two more years left. $1,200,000 cap and salary in each year.

The Rangers match up money with Hoffman and Sceviour for Shattenkirk. Florida would be adding cap money and salary in the second year of Shattenkirk’s contract. The extra salary would not be much in the second year.

The Rangers flip Hoffman in another deal this summer or trade him at the trading deadline.

Richards wrote about the Panthers and Panarin. He owns a home in Wynwood which is a hipster area in Miami. They are prepared to write a big check for Panarin.

20+49+58 seems far more valuable to me than pick number 12 in most drafts. Team are bad at drafting. Much better to have more picks in that range.

For sure.

Think they were talking about Kakko in a lot of the clips, FWIW.
