We can spend all next season hoping they fall apart and we end up with two lottery picks.

Break with tradition and come away with Lafreniere and Barron.

;)

I want a top line center out of that haul.

Gorton needs to commit to the rebuild and trade away a bunch of players to make room for rookies and the sooner he does it the better.
Ok. I'll bite. What has Gorton done that would evidence that he is NOT committed to the rebuild? Just show a couple of things here if you do not mind.
There is really no need to have players like Vesey, Strome, Namestnikov, Staal, Shattenkirk, Claesson, etc. on a rebuilding team. These players are neither leading by example or are wise old vets that would help the rookies out, they are just in a way of the rebuild at this point, yet Gorton is trading away our picks instead of finding ways to offload these guys.
This needs to be broken down into several issues.
1. Staal does not qualify as a wise old vet?
2. What has Strome done to show you that he cannot be a valuable piece on the third line? Who would you rather have instead of him?
3. On moving Staal, Shattenkirk.....can you actually come up with a sensible trade idea? Or is this just talking out of your tukhus? And if you are not trading them, what happens to them? Are you buying them out/ Do you have any idea of what dead cap space is? Oh, and why does Smith get to stay?
4. Is Cleasson even signed for next year?
5. Explain to me why there is no place for a Nametstnikov or Strome on a rebuilding team.
6. What picks did Gorton trade since the rebuild started? Oh, you mean the two second rounders to also bring back a touted prospect? Is that what you are referring to?

on what planet is gorton not commit to the rebuild? he's traded away everything not nailed to the floor besides kreider and thats coming...and to say you shouldn't have any vets and just so you can play all kids isn't how a rebuild works. you need some vets...

if he could move staal, smith and shattenkirk he would

Not buying it, he hasn't done all he could to move those players I mentioned and buy out Staal.

staal is not a buyout candidate this year...the cap hit is brutal and carries for too many years when we might need the space. next summer the buyout isn't that bad if we need to go that route

Well then it is likely another halfassed rebuild season.

Newsflash, you still need SOME veteran players on the team. Having an all-rookie team isn't good.

If you actually believe Gorton isn't committed to the rebuild based off the moves he's made, then I can't help you there. Major agreement to disagreement. Believe what you want..

You can't have a team full of rookies. You risk becoming Edmonton Oilers. What picks has Gorton traded away? Fox trade? If Fox reaches his ceiling that trade is a big win for us.

last season we had 5 vets on defense and he kept players like Namestnikov and Vesey that do nothing for rebuild except slow it down.

I agree with that.....just gonna be hard to see Quinn play 3 offensive D, who Pk's out of Shatty, TDA, Fox?

Well, it's not much different than last year's Shatty, TDA and Pionk, post trade deadline. Maybe we pick up another McQuaid type, or maybe we make a deal for Trouba or a similar type player.

The defense remains my #1 concern with this team. I'm less worried about getting rid of Shatty, Staal and Smith than I am about who takes their place once they are gone. The left side is in pretty good shape, but the right side worries me. There's a lot of talent there, but little size or shutdown ability. TDA/Pionk/Fox/Lundkvist are all similar size and skillsets. Lundkvist maybe more of an all around game than the others, but still lacks ideal size. Maybe Keane develops into a top 4 shutdown role. Maybe one of Miller/Hajek/Lindgren/Rykov moves to the right side. Maybe we draft Seider with Winnipeg's pick. Maybe we get a high pick next year and draft a stud RHD. It's going to take us a couple years, at least, to get the defense where we need it to be.

Gorton will trade away more picks guaranteed. He should have forced Carolina to take a player instead of one of the picks, they were in no position to negotiate, Fox was going to walk out on them and Rangers were the main team he was considering.

Didn't want to create a new thread, but after people were positive about the previous one, here's the one from yesterday discussing, among other things, Panarin coming to the Rangers (potentially)

I am really curious to hear what you guys think of the intro

Yeah, let us know when this gets to iTunes so I can subscribe.

Zuccarello is very similar to Callahan. Zuccarello was more popular than Callahan but the latter had a good devoted following. There were some fans pushing for the Rangers to bring Captain Cally back as a free agent. The Rangers and Callahan weren't far from agreeing to terms before the trade. There was one guy. I think his name was Vince or something like that. He got so annoying. The Rangers are bringing back Callahan who stayed in TB. Yzerman had interest in re-signing Callahan and they did sign him. Same situation with Zuccarello. Both Florida and Texas have no state income tax. There are people who say that issue is way overblown. You can get people to argue the other side on any topic.

Force them how? Which player? You think we were the only team interested in Fox?

You cannot have a team with just 23-year old players. This isn't a video game

Did I ever advocate that? I am saying that a vet who is not a leader in the locker room and does not lead by example is not needed on a rebuilding team.

that includes Vesey, and Namestnikov.

I disagree. While I wouldn't buyout Staal (instead I would do everything I could to trade him, including attaching one of our two second rounders to get him off the roster), I would buyout Smith. That cap hit isn't as bad.

I wonder if the Florida 1st (13th overall) is in play.

Unfortunately Kreider seems a poor fit with Huberdeau, Hoffman and potentially Panarin at LW.

We were the only team that knew for sure he would sign with us, all others were risking losing him for nothing.

This is not true. There are no guarantees. I've seen reports that JVR was "going to sign with the Rangers for sure" and what happened there?

Adam Fox would hit UFA status in August 2020. Gorton said, and rightfully so "A lot can happen in a year". Giving up some mid-round picks for a prospect who has already developed into what you can only hope prospects you get with those picks will become, is a good deal.

yes, but the trade should have been Dallas' 2nd rounder + Vesey, nobody would give them more for question mark Fox.
