The Cairns-Purinton series shows you why people don't want fighting in the game.
Purinton was a puke, but he inflicted pain on every player that wronged the Rangers during those 4 years pre-lockout, haha. Sometimes that wasn't possible within the guidelines of acceptable hockey player conduct, so he made due outside of it.

You’re right. I remember him in Stamford and forgot he’s not under contract b/c he was in school while Huska got time in Hartford. They didn’t let him walk away though. He’s here and could be part of the big club’s plans. Not sure what to think of Lindbom and wondering if Huska, who didn’t move too well in Stamford, is just big so the puck hits him.

Goalies are a gamble. They will probably draft 1 or 2 more this year. That doesn't mean they are unhappy with Shestyorkin for instance.

Letting Wall walk would be a bad decision. It made sense to sign him. I doubt there was anything more to it

We need to get this thread back on the rails.

Anyone think the Rangers might sign Morgan Barron and bring him to wherever as part of their playoff roster? (official hint; I do)

It would be wise to try and sign Barron asap. Not sure what the holdup is either, theres way too many question marks surrounding the NCAA for next year

The holdup with Barron is he wants to see what's going on with NCAA hockey in the fall. Cornell was a favorite to win. I think if there was a declaration that there'd definitely be an NCAA hockey season, he'd go back. If we get closer to fall and it's all up in the air, he may sign. And that's fine since next year will likely be delayed to start quite a bit, so he wouldn't even miss anything.

Langdon was not a big guy but he was so strong and had great stamina. He fought holding guys in tight and could get short shots off quick.

The thing I’ll always remember about Langdon was him saying he wasn’t even close to the toughest guy in the organization back then, Dan Cloutier was nuts and the guy nobody wanted to mess with. A couple years later Cloutier pounded Salo and challenged the whole Islander bench. Maybe someone can find that clip?
ABSOLUTE CLASSIC!!
Langdon also went into fights with the general strategy of letting his opponent tire themselves out in the first half of a scrap and then he would come on for the second half. He was smart in knowing how to be effective.

no chance...they aren't going to burn a year and then find out he's not ready to play.

i think he wants to finish college. He’s mentioned his degree alot and interest in playing another year with his college teammates. The nerve lol, wanting to finish college without putting it off (a few summers) and being dedicated to your team before turning pro.

Some may be as big a supporter yet nobody is as bigger supporter of this kid than me. I believe a quick play in series could cost the Rangers a year of service yet increase the likelihood of not losing him if he decides to be a free agent.

Purinton was a dangerous fighter, but Langdon was so effective and so smart. watch this clip of him and Twist:

No one, No One, could hang with twist like this back then.
Now watch this long fight with Brashear in Brashear's prime:

Again, another good showing against a player with a much better reputation. Langdon may have been one of the most underrated enforcers ever.
Brashear was trash by the time we got him. I cant count on one hand the fights he won decisively in a Rangers jersey.

Langdon may have been the only fighter I ever saw who would bide his time and tire the other guy out.

he is too old for his contract to slide. if you sign him so the contract starts this season, it burns the year whether he plays or not. they would have signed him to a ATO deal in the ahl to finish the year in hartford if their season wasn't canceled.

This is correct

didn’t like it either. Home grown for a journeyman for the same role. Nah

not mentioned (and the Rangers had to make the trade) but i did like Troy Mallette a lot.
Mallette. I liked him too. Him and King. They both came up around the same time. That's a great call. Would have been cool if a few more guys from that crew could have stayed for the Cup run. It would have been very cool if James Patrick and Mike Gartner stayed somehow. Maybe there was another way to acquire Larmer. Anyhow, I digress.

Langdon was a great fighter while here on PEI as a tier two junior before he made his way through the minor leagues fighting EVERYONE along the way . He was indeed a great 2nd half fighter but in all honesty he never was a great heavyweight....he did a lot of holding on and he never hurt anyone in a fight that I can recall....not the type to do much damage or inflict pain on others . He was however a guy that kept others honest when needed and never shied away from an offer . I suspect he was a very popular guy in the room . He would never be confused with Colton Orr...he was a true heavyweight and FEARED ! I did love the Langdon and Chara as a Fishstick bouts back in the day . Langdon would have been a great extra to have along with an Orr . That would have made for a great 1-2 punch combo .

Mark Jannsens as well....he could also fight very well and was a big boy .

what changed in your opinion? They resigned Wall which i thought was interesting and wondering if that speaks to their future plans.

Speculating - buyout Hank, move Georgiev promote Wall and Huska is in Hartford.
With everything that has gone on in the world, I can't see them doing him dirty now. I don't know, just a weird feeling they'll move Smith or Staal somehow. Would they eat half and move Lundqvist? Probably more likely than a buyout, in my opinion. With a flat cap looking likely, this is going to be an insane offseason, especially with it being at a weird part of the year like November-ish.

Best Purinton analysis I’ve ever seen

Watching the 2018 WJC outdoor game between Canada and Russia. Rangers must have liked this game too, they traded for three players in it.
