I have to think there's some situational considerations that GAR isn't picking up completely. Either that or Trouba and Pionk switched bodies like in the all-time classic movie "Freaky Friday".

Pionk is better than most here would ever admit because of the way people pile on someone every year,Pionk, Strome, Girardi, etc etc. Always someone to gang hate.

Also, nutjob Holland can take a walk with the 1st and Andersson for Puljujarvi. If he wants that, throw me Samorukov, as well, and then we can draw up the papers.

Puljujärvi is what Rangers fans think Lias is. He was drafted a year earlier, has failed make the NHL, and has not really shown anything.

Sample size aside, Lias' season in Europe this past season was more impressive than Puljujärvi's. Better league, more complete player, similar production

Some dude on Twitter who broke a ton of trades at the TDL is saying that the NHL is going to announce its playoff plans on Friday with the Rangers and Canes facing off in a 5 game set.

Grain of salt as always, but I thought I'd share.
For all the stat lovers I guess we gotta go with Hank. He's 17-4 vs Carolina when having to make 30 or more saves. Yes 17-4. 81 percent win rate :D

Pierre McGuire was just on TSN 690 montreal and briefly mentioned the Rangers-Carolina thing.

That would fit a setup where there are 12 playoff teams per conference, seeded by points percentage, with the top-4 getting a bye for the first round. You'd have:

Pit vs Mtl
Car vs NYR
NYI vs Fla
CBJ vs Tor

Byes: Bos, TBL, Wsh, Phi

The West would be
Edm vs Chi
Nsh vs Ari
Van vs Min
Cgy vs Win

Byes: STL, Col, VGK, Dal

Trouba was a seriously brutal investment. Overpaying for a defenseman who’s impact is very subpar;; old habits definitely die hard.

It is relatively hard to buy the results of a model that states Trouba's best attribute - by far - was his play on the PP. And not only does it say it's his best attribute it says he's elite at it given they gave him 5 stars.

Do we know how this would re-seed after play-in round?

Do we know how this would re-seed after play-in round?

We don't even know if that's the reality. It was just the only way I could figure out the moving pieces to allow the Rangers and Canes to meet.

If that's the setup, my guess is that they'd just do the second round seeding by points percentage again... but it's just a guess.

I will wait for the official announcement.

100%. I can't even begin to think to speculate on playoffs, the draft and beyond until I see something official.

Just don't see the possibility to rush and come back at this time. It just takes one player, one coach, one trainer to get diagnosed, and then the whole operation shuts down again. And what does that do? Drag everyone back to start and stop, and then mess up even next season as well? I can't see it NOT turning out like this, honestly.

Arguing that contract comes into consideration when discussing the actual on ice performance is misguided though. We’re not comparing the two because we’re trying to decide whether to sign or trade for one of them or which one is more valuable. We’re talking about which one, today, is the more capable NHL defender. What they’re paid, in that context, is irrelevant.[/QUOTE]

I'm not going to quote all that - but accepting the contract, and not criticizing it for it's insane overpayment is exactly why roster building exists. Skjei was traded for a draft pick. Thank god we got that. My criticism of Trouba is part performance and part contract because both matter. I hope you guys get this ... Zibby is coming up to FA, TDA is an RFA, Fox is a young stud... and who is standing in the way of all of them? Our 8m guy. It's hurting us now, and we should have learned from the dark years how this ends up.

Well what if the offense is legit AF because the team ignores team defense? Remember the Isles under Weight? They were one of the highest scoring teams in the league, but gave up the most goals. Then Trotz came in and they had the best GAA but the offense really suffered. Difference is our Goalies are actually good and not a product of a Trotz trapping. But if they start playing more responsible defensive hockey you can expect to see some of those numbers go down.
Agree here. I think the Rangers defense is so bad because they are constantly attacking. The defensemen never back up in the o-zone. Even when the opponent gets control of the puck, the defensemen attack right away. It works a lot. But sometimes it turns into a huge debacle. But then we have Igor the Great. I know it leads to some ugly pileups but in general it was working.

Okay... no one is arguing that contract is irrelevant. If you can’t grasp that contract is not a factor when we’re arguing over which player is CURRENTLY the better defender than I have no real interest in talking to you. We’re not arguing which is the better value, which is worth keeping over the other. We’re talking about two performances that have already been completed and which was superior. One being superior but overpaid versus one being very good on an ELC is, in fact, irrelevant, because it’s not a discussion about the cap, which to keep, which is more bang for your buck, etc. If the question is, who is better currently, between Trouba and Lindgren, and you have chosen Lindgren, you’re wrong. That’s really the end of it. Whether Trouba is overpaid or not, he is still currently better than Lindgren. The end.

I don't think they'd see a HUGE drop in offensive numbers like the Isles did for several reasons.

1. I don't see them making changes going from one extreme to the other like the Isles did.
2. They have much more talent (Isles are not a talented team and they lost their best player to UFA before Trotz coached a game for them.)
3. The PP is f***ing dope.

They need to improve how they defend in the NZ but even that started to get better as the season progressed. Whether or not they actually collectively get there under this staff is a whole other conversation (to this point, Quinn has done nothing to lose his job but that time is coming sooner rather than later IMO.)
I think what @KirkAlbuquerque says and what you’re saying both apply. The offense is great and the attacking system is right. But they need to get better at playing fire drill defense too. And I’m sure they will. Fox is already really good at knowing when to transition back to defense and he’s good at reading the play in the neutral zone. Just need the rest to get there with him.
