I'd rather he not.

IF he isn't bought out, he should be sitting in a suite 99% of the time like he should have been the last few seasons.

I get it, but he has been a Ranger for life, and want him to go out the natural way, same as Hank. Buy out is just not a good way to go out.

I guess if we knock Carolina out, and Columbus takes out Toronto, that's a better scenario.

How so?

The draft order for playoff teams isn't determined by which round they exited, except for the conference finalists. For example, last year Winnipeg's pick started the playoffs in the 22 slot. It moved up to 20 because Carolina and St Louis, who were originally 20 and 21, got to the conference finals. But CBJ's pick stayed at 19, even though they won a round and Winnipeg did not. Dallas and Colorado also stuck at 18 and 16, despite each winning their first round matchup. Of course, if we knock out Carolina, Columbus takes out Toronto, and 1 or more teams below them gets to the conference finals, then sure. Wouldn't happen if either of them got to the conference finals, so might as well knock them out early.

If you meant something with the lottery, I don't see how that'd help either. We get the lower of those two picks. They'd have to both be eligible and both win (if they're even doing the top-3 lotto) for it to be a big help. That's never going to happen.

Unless I'm totally missing something here.

yeah if by some miracle teams like Florida and Montreal and Chicago and Winnipeg Make it to the conference finals then our 23rd overall could make its way to 19th overall but there’s pretty much no chance of that happening lol I mean maybe one of the teams ranked below Toronto/Carolina make it deep and it drops the 23rd overall to 22nd.
Oh and I guess if Winnipeg or Minnesota or Montreal or Chicago or Arizona went deep our own pick at 13 would trend up

So a tuneup will be the Bruins vs Flyers while the Lightning play the Caps? Even if it’s a round robin, sounds civil o_O

Nobody had better get Covid. The longer this goes the risk can’t get any less as i see it.

Lebrun (or someone else, I don't know) said something to the effect that this isn't going to be viewed as a 24-team playoff, but rather a 16-team playoff with a play-in prior. I'm assuming that will be reflected in the draft order. Might it not be? Sure. But I think they're going to want to avoid something like Pittsburgh going out after 4 games before what would be considered the first round starts and picking 25th.

It is relatively hard to buy the results of a model that states Trouba's best attribute - by far - was his play on the PP. And not only does it say it's his best attribute it says he's elite at it given they gave him 5 stars.

I guarantee you that if you looked at Trouba’a career PP numbers, he’s been a good PP player for the majority of it.

What do you perceive as Trouba’s best attribute?

Regularly watching his play on the PP it's hard to come to any other conclusion than that his solid PP numbers were a product of Winnipeg's fantastic PP. He had good numbers on the PP1 here as well, but it was a dramatic difference with Tony at the point. He doesn't have the skill or mobility of a truly great QB and his shot selection and accuracy is outright bad.

all true. I would think that longer term he's probably less of a staple on the pp. He's fine - and very good at sealing off the point to keep the puck in the o-zone. But I think TDA and Fox end up ahead of JT on the pp. I'd also use forwards on the point.

I'm a big Trouba fan. But more at even strength and penalty kill.

breaking news: its easier to put up pp numbers playing with elite players like panarin, mika, laine and/or wheeler than with brett howden and brendan lemieux

He hasn’t been. He never even got big PP time on WPG other than when Byfuglien was injured and he was always on PP2 getting the leftover mins at the end of the PP with bad results.

I thought Trouba was a decent PP guy primarily on the back of his shot, who would be good here, but he never really got settled on any unit. I still think he could have moderate success, but with guys like DeAngelo and Fox, and Lundkvist (and even Reunanen who slings it well) coming up, He may be relegated to mop-up duty on the PP which reduces his value. Or it could click, and he could pop in 8-10 on the PP next year. Who knows.

I think it's more important to find a LHD that can complement his game. He needs a true two-way guy that can be prepared to cover for Trouba when he goes up ice or moves in for a big hit. A guy who can really skate and is smart enough to pick up coverage when Trouba freelances. And someone who can also transport the puck to some degree. Morrissey was good at that. They played off each other really well and both dropped off this year. Finding someone like that won't make Trouba a stud #1 All-NHL player, but it should be enough to form a shutdown-type pair where Trouba can also contribute 30+ points.

Skjei actual had the physical tools to be that guy, but was an idiot who made way too many mistakes. Need a more aware player.

Trouba is kind of hard to define. He's got an absolute bomb of a shot and loves to hit, which are fun attributes for a defenseman, but is otherwise pretty stiff at both ends of the ice.

It's hard, but that doesn't make for a good shot by itself. It's inaccurate and his shot selection is bad. Statistical analysis puts his shot as below average (but has Weber's at the very top among defencemen) while someone like Tony who might lack ultimate velocity actually has a borderline elite shot for a defenceman.

I think this is coaching. Trouba has a very strong shot but his shot selection is terrible. That shouldn't be a big deal. The coaches just need to have a meeting with him and show him where he should/shouldn't be shooting from. We know based on Quinn's work with Strome that he has a large affect on a players shot rate (after 37 games Quinn told Strome to shoot more and his shot rate spiked for the rest of the year). I think Trouba's ideal spot on the PP is the left circle as a shooting threat on the PP2 (the shot Zibanejad played last season and Panarin mostly this season). He has a good shot but no matter how good it is taking long range shots from the blue line are going to be very low percentage.

I think Trouba’s value is come playoff time. Although i wouldn’t get too high or low on anybody based on this upcoming tournament.

PDG's success put into stark contrast just how bad some of our forwards were playing. A decent all-round AHL journeyman looked like a revelation when he displaced guys like Howden and Kakko in the lineup.
