That 3rd line will be killed in the play offs.
There is no way Kakko should be playing above Gauthier and/or PDG in a playoff scenario where winning games is all that matters.

This is IMO a more prudent lineup:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Panarin-Strome-Fast
Di Giuseppe-Chytil-Gauthier
Howden-McKegg-Kakko

Lemieux steps in at 3LW when he returns and bumps one of Howden/Kakko (preferably Howden) out of the lineup.

Those teams didn't have a Zibanejad either.

TBH they didn't have a Fox or DeAngelo unless you want to include a massively misused Yandle.

They also didn't have this team's PP.

Strictly from an offensive perspective, this team is primed to be way more potent than that group was, especially at the top end.

They also didn't have a Panarin.

Puljujärvi is what Rangers fans think Lias is. He was drafted a year earlier, has failed make the NHL, and has not really shown anything.

Sample size aside, Lias' season in Europe this past season was more impressive than Puljujärvi's. Better league, more complete player, similar production

Yeah I'm not interested in this trade at all, especially if the Oilers want additional assets. Like a first! GTFO

The game in MTL that the players claim turned their season around was really, in my opinion, when they really started to play improved hockey. More structured, for sure. I pulled stats for some from December-now.

Zibanejad 45GP-35G-26A-61PTS (my lord)
Panarin 44-20-42-62
Strome 45-12-24-36
DeAngelo 40-8-26-34
Kreider 38-18-14-32
Fox 45-3-25-28
Buchnevich 43-11-16-27
Fast 45-9-11-20
Trouba 45-4-10-14
Chytil 44-6-7-13
Howden 45-6-6-12
Kakko 43-4-8-12

Regularly watching his play on the PP it's hard to come to any other conclusion than that his solid PP numbers were a product of Winnipeg's fantastic PP. He had good numbers on the PP1 here as well, but it was a dramatic difference with Tony at the point. He doesn't have the skill or mobility of a truly great QB and his shot selection and accuracy is outright bad.

I'm not disagreeing that Tony is better on PP1 for us. Rangers have a top PP in the NHL as a result of TDA being on PP1. I also don't think it's the craziest idea that Trouba has been good on PP2. PP2 doesn't get much ice time so maybe because of that, his results have been good in brief stints. That's my guess.

Ehm. 35+26 = 61, not 71

Off by 10 on Zib there, it's "only" 61 points.

Here are their 82-game rates from the sample:

Some insane rates there; Zib's 64 goal pace, DeAngelo's 70-point pace, Kreider's 39-goal pace. With Panarin you've become accustomed to 116-point pace as something "normal".

Ah, 60+ goal pace. No one's done that since Stamkos. That's not terrible.

Ugh. I'd rather an actual forward up front playing with Gauthier and McKegg.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Panarin-Strome-Fast
Kravtsov-Chytil-Kakko
Di Guiseppe-Howden/McKegg-Gauthier

That would be my G1 lineup.

imo, when the elder on the 3rd line is 20 years old you’re asking for problems.

Rangers have one of the elite goal scorers in the game and one of the elite playmakers(who I'd argue is the best) in the game. Pretty nuts. Not to mention a rookie defenseman who's been an elite two-way player in Fox.

If we can't build around that to win a cup, then I don't know what the Rangers can do.

...add in a budding super star goalie (your namesake!)--already displaying dominance in net. Beyond excited.

I actually think Kakko might be better after the break. Levels the fitness playing field a bit. But I agree that players like McKegg and Fast are more natural playoff ice time choices. I'd call up Beleskey too but I've been honking that horn for 2 years and it hasn't happened yet.

If we're in the playoffs when we resume, I think he'll be on the roster. Whether he'll crack the lineup or not, idk. Quinn gonna Quinn
