You mentioned it but that's good strategy for a team with an elite goalie. An elite goalie shouldn't have a vastly better sv% or GAA than an average goalie because he should face more shots and more high quality shots since you should be trying to trade chances to maximize the difference in the two goalies skill levels.
I realize that they were an all-time great team led by TGO of course, but this was the exact formula of the Oilers dynasty.

(Thing is, I don't know that Fuhr – or Moog – was really Shesty/Hank level good, so much as the forwards + Coffey were just that utterly insane.)

Can't believe some top teams don't like the format. What's the problem if it includes play-ins and byes?

I'd have no complaints if the Rangers were the points leader.

if we were a top 4 team, we'd be pissed about having to play the meaningless round robin games. risking injury for games that don't count...and you can't really sit guys to protect them cause then they won't have played in a long time when the real series starts. its definitely a 'weird' situation for the teams getting bye

It kind of sucks for the teams close to getting a bye. They are basically in the same spot as teams 15 points below them in the standings. But you're not going to find a solution on the fly that's perfectly fair to everyone.

I get it, but he has been a Ranger for life, and want him to go out the natural way, same as Hank. Buy out is just not a good way to go out.
In my perfectly constructed roster, I've got space for a crusty vet "lifer" defenseman. I love having a young roster, for a number of reasons. But some veteran presence is critical. Preferably one defenseman, one goalie, and one forward. Then three rest are stars and kids who'll skate through walls.

Some players with underlying conditions who might not be able to play:

Kaapo Kakko--diabetes, celiac disease
Max Domi--diabetes
Luke Kunin--diabetes
Brian Boyle--recent cancer treatments
Brett Pesce--asthma

Gretzky always says if there was one game for ridiculous stakes, he wants Fuhr between the pipes.

So don’t make them play. Simple.

I don’t agree. I wouldn’t want to be in the Top 4 with a cold team about to play a team that played real games
