I think Trouba's salary is what causes us to expect more. He has the 5th highest AAV among defensemen. As such, many expected him to be a bona-fide #1 D-man right out of the gate.

of course that’s why more is expected of him. The Rangers paid him b/c they believed in those expectations too.

Trouba has a physical x factor that has to count for something as well, it's something we would surely miss if he weren't here. The contract is a mill heavy but I still want him here, I dont see players with his size and ability just falling into our laps for 6 or 7 mill a year. I also feel his true value will come in playoffs.

I think Trouba played noticeably better after Skjei was moved.

Skjei brings down his defense partner. he always did this. he also wasn't good in Carolina either. he is just overrated. a better version of John Moore. never had 40 pts and is a 25-30 pt dman at best

That's because the average fan has no clue how the salary cap works. Trouba's CH% upon signing was lower than Ekblad and Letang for example. And Ekblad had 4 RFA years left when signing his deal.

lol, now that’s funny. The team is putrid defensively with no stand outs yet you’re adamant for one who was mediocre. Com’on, Fox tries but has a long way to go.
Your answer indicates you didn't watch a heck of a lot of Ranger hockey this year, especially the second half of the season.

Hell, even the nerds agree with me on this.

actually the whole league is playing less than 75 games.

It's this ALL DAY. That and the fact that with such a long term deal signed, just wait to see what some players sign for in the next 2-4 years. Trouba may look handsomely paid now but there will be countless others

I can't wait for someone to refer to caphit percentage as an "advanced stat" and ignore it completely haha

oh yeah? Watch with Covid that cap drop. Let’s hope that TV contract is lucrative yet this is the NHL and historically something always derails them from maximizing the momentum. All those thinking years down the line is no different than these Cowboy fans who praise these contracts like they’re a bargain and don’t recognize limited flexibility will cost them players. (and always does).

You really have no clue how the salary cap works, do you?

Stupid Gorton not seeing the obvious pandemic coming.

Fox is really good defensively, even just watching the games you can see how adept he is.

Not sure what @NYSPORTS is seeing.

we were posting about defense and Lindgren, etc. The whole defense needs to commit more to stopping opponents. Fox tries, more than others, but he still has a ways to go. I don’t think that’s being unreasonable.
