You picked the absolute worst writer who covers any sport in North America to quote. Before the Knights showed up to Vegas, this guy self professed to know zero about the sport, but now wants people to think he's an expert. He constantly repeats the same garbage over & over trying to convince his minions it must be true. He's so bad, that Gallant would literally roll his eyes whenever he asked questions at the post game presser.

Not saying Strome isn't due for a correction, just that this article or writer is not the one I would be referencing.

Sorry to be clear my point is that this article is total nonsense. Similar things have been said about Strome and obviously stuff like that doesn't continue. This is an example of really bad writing.

It’s always best to get out in front of a controversy like this.
#SwaddleGate

May I use this opportunity to highlight the dumbest thing in post-Nixon history? Which idiot thought it was a good idea to use the suffix -gate for each scandal? It's so stupid. It makes zero sense.

Nipplegate? Obamagate? Deflategate? Spygate? What if the recordings were from a different hotel? What if it was the Holiday Inn? Would we have Deflate Inn? Nipple Inn?

Rant over

So I agree with everything you wrote and have no real argument. My issue with Strome is that his overall game leaves so much to be desired that 40-50 points isn’t really enough to wanna pay him based off of this years production.
I do not think that anyone is talking about paying him as if he is a 70 point player. $5m for 2-4 years sounds pretty good.

I don't remember Nipplegate.

Hah. I actually wanted to offer multiple monikers but really no one gets it without ‘-Gate’. ‘Affair’ (Profumo) and ‘-scam’ (Abscam) came to mind but I figured those would be too old/esoteric.

edit: mind, swaddlegate almost-rhymes with watergate. It’s quite good phrasing, even if i say so myself. I didn’t go with the obvious ‘blanket gate’ for example. Too on-the-nose.

You forgot Thatchergate which actually was kind of funny.

I’m team swaddle-mania or bust. All Rangers players, prospects and prospective trade targets/signings better go all out with NYR themed swaddling. McDavid requests a trade to NY? Not unless his first born is swaddled head to toe in blue and red.

In fact, to that point, Strome’s choice of swaddling indicates a lack of commitment. Add another argument against giving him a long contract.

Shower thought- if they do hold the playoffs without fans, we're gonna learn a lot more about the players and their interactions with each other and the refs. Those mics are gonna pick up everything.

I am 100% looking forward to Quinn spending the entire playoffs yelling at the refs creatively.

Because he may not be ready for it or because he may not be good enough.
Yeah. I like Chytil but I haven’t seen any indication he can distribute and lug well enough to carry a line that’s expected to score a lot. He can do good individual things and is developing. But Strome is way ahead of Chytil at this time.
I’m not saying anything about two or three years from now. But for the moment I think Chytil is best-served ripening on the 3rd line.

There is a Penguin fan trying to Argue that John Marino is better than Adam Fox on the main board.

I hate myself for getting sucked into that conversation.
To be fair, it was a NYR fan who came in and said Fox belongs with Makar and Quinn not the other two lol.

Some progress from the return to play work:
NHL discussing restart with 24 teams in two hub cities - TSN.ca

They are supposedly looking to restart with 24 teams in two hub cities. The idea however isn't necessarily to have a 24 team POs, but to play round games and then move on to a traditional 16 team PO after eliminating the final 8 teams.

I like this idea a lot.

The series would of course be weighted, could be everything from like the No 1 ranked team starting with 12 pts down to 1 pts for the No 12 ranked team on each side. 8 of 12 would make it on each side. That would mean that the last ranked team on each side would have to gain 5 pts on the 8th ranked team over 11 games to overtake them. I am not sure if I necessarily like that. Its a lot. I hope that they don't weight it too much. There should be a point for all teams to return to play.

But I don't necessarily like the two hub cities idea instead of four cities. It will put a tremendous strain on the ice. It speaks for itself. Single series you play each team once, 12 teams on each side. If my recollection of school math don't serve me wrong, its n*(n-1) / 2 when you want to establish number of games in a single match-up series. That gives you 12 x 11 / 2 = 66 games per hub. 3 games per day gives you 22 days or 2 games per day gives you 33 days. That seems too long. They will want to play 3 games a night. At least 16 games a week (weekdays 5*2 + weekends 2*3). It would be tough for the ice.
