Hank will play here until he’s cooked. Can’t see it going any other way. No way does Georgy not get traded if Shesty lights up the A and looks good on a call up...

That looks like what we’ve all been talking about for years, Shesty/Hank mentorship/dual starters until Hank can’t go anymore.

I mean, I love georgy and I think he has serious potential, but this is what we’ve been working towards and I am set on that personally until it is proven otherwise.
At this point, Georgiev has a high return, more than Talbot, arguably more than Raanta. Both those goaltenders are still good, but not as good as when Hank's backup. This is starting to look like a business model for the Rangers, and no reason to think it'll be any different this time around.

Of course, they won't pull the trigger until Shesty shows he's ready.

If JD is our new President he would have great insight on possibly trying to sign Panarin.
He'd have insight on a lot more important things than that, like how to run a good hockey club. Did a phenomenal job in St. Louis in a short amount of time. Made some mostly smart moves with Columbus, (head coach aside). This is not about Panarin, its about a Cup.

Seems awfully convenient that JD has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave if he is offered the Rangers President position

Like how does that come up in negotiations?

But outside of that, I can't see the sense in buying out Shattenkirk, and if you trade Kreider, ya gotta go after Panarin

I think there’s a chance that Staal is traded the next deadline, we retain a bit but get decent return too. A contender that wants his vet presence and pk for two solid runs on the third pair. Also similar scenario for Hank, tdl move as depth for someone with a young goalie, gets to go on another run or two and maybe get those 500 wins. Would be just over a season with another team. He’ll have to have another really hard year here but it’s possible and might change his mind, can he mentally take another year like this past season.
Staal has a young family, the best chance to get him to accept a trade is in the offseason.

JD is smart. Also a chance someone gave him a heads up a few years ago.

And 12 million to keep all the RFA's, where is he doing that math?

Unless they're signing Buch, Pionk and DeAngelo long term, I can't see it being anywhere close to 12 million

DeAngelo and Lemieux have no arbitration rights, give them a one year QO. Buch I would sign for 4-5 years depending on his ask, and Pionk you trade, or give him a 2 million dollar bridge

Like not even close to 12 million lol

Maybe their expecting to add a RFA....

There's no way that Georgiev is going to return more than Talbot did when he finally hit the bricks. Talbot stats (50+ games) compared to Georgiev's were far superior.

Similar return? Maybe. Take a look at that run Talbot put together when he was the starter > Georgiev.

Eh. Buch long term probably costs ~$4.5M AAV. Then you have ADA/Pionk probably making ~$2M on bridges. So that's $8-$9M total. Then Claesson/Lemieux probably get between $1M-$1.5M each.

That gets you close to $12M easily.

EDIT: Even without Claesson, it's still close.

Yeah there is this too.

They can also solve this problem by trading Pionk. I'm not convinced they view Buchnevich as a long term piece and wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him+one of Pionk/ADA packaged for a RHD.

You don’t think we can get better than a 2nd and 3rd for Georgiev?

Don’t forget- Talbot was 27 when we traded him. Georgiev is 23.

We’d better try to avoid this route. Georgiev doesn’t have anything to gain from an AHL stint, and is a FA after next season.

its not an ideal scenario for either young goalie. but short of shesterkin not being able to handle it and needing to spend the whole year in the AHL which seems unlikely it is what it is and we are left trying to make the best of the situation juggling the 3 for now. your only other alternative is to move one of the youngster without knowing which one is better and hoping you guessed right.

Claesson is so unbelievably replaceable. He had just as many boneheaded plays last year as anyone.

They can find someone else to be the 7th defenseman and closer to the league minimum.

I am all for trading Pionk.

They could free up additional money trading one or both of Namestnikov and Vesey.

i didn't check larry's numbers but $10 mil in cap space after signing the RFAs sure doesn't sound like a lot for a team that is apparently gonna sign panarin for $11 mil per and also take on every bad contract in the league to gain assets...is that the new math they teach in school now?

No offense to Lemieux but I'm not giving him a bridge deal. Play a full season here and we'll see where things land. DeAngelo you could make a case for, and I'd be fine giving him a bridge but not sure the front office feels the same

What's the point of bridging these guys if you don't have to?

Give them a qualifying offer, and then determine if they're in the plans long term next summer

it probably came up in negotations when JD and his agent said "you have to let me out of my contract if the rangers offer me the presidency job" :naughty:

Agreed. And if either breaks out then that's 1 more RFA year should they want to sign either long-term. But I think ADA gets 2 and Lemieux gets QO
