i didn't check larry's numbers but $10 mil in cap space after signing the RFAs sure doesn't sound like a lot for a team that is apparently gonna sign panarin for $11 mil per and also take on every bad contract in the league to gain assets...is that the new math they teach in school now?
Well that's with 14 forwards and 8 defenseman already on the roster. Trading Vesey/Kreider/whoever adds even more room obviously

its not an ideal scenario for either young goalie. but short of shesterkin not being able to handle it and needing to spend the whole year in the AHL which seems unlikely it is what it is and we are left trying to make the best of the situation juggling the 3 for now. your only other alternative is to move one of the youngster without knowing which one is better and hoping you guessed right.
May we be cursed with a Price/Halak conundrum

History shows that would be a very good package for Georgiev if we traded him today.

Hence, I wouldn't trade him at this point.
At this point, I’d ask for a low first. This draft supposedly isn’t deep. That or two 2nds, or a 2nd and a good prospect. Georgiev is young, cheap and good. Could start with an up-and-coming team, could backstop a competitive team.

I think the goalie situation plays out well this upcoming year. Georgiev and Hank are your guys barring Shesterkin showing up and already being prime Hasek. Shestyorkin starts in the AHL getting the lion share and learning the rink size/ culture.

Good chance Hank misses time at his age, which should get Shesty time. If not you re-evaluate Shestyorkin/Georgiev in the 2nd half. Shestyorkin comes up down the stretch if his play warrants it. Georgiev goes down or you have 3 guys for 20-30 games depending on his play. At that point Hank will prob want extra rest.

Now the following year, that might work itself out or really be a predicament.

Talbot was as good or better than Georgiev when we traded him and more proven and all we could get was a 2nd. I offer no solution but we cant let him go for that.

Goalies only get first rounders if teams really believe they are getting a 1A goalie. Georgiev is not in that conversation. He hasn't shown enough. Next year? Who knows how things are looking.

Claesson is so unbelievably replaceable. He had just as many boneheaded plays last year as anyone.

They can find someone else to be the 7th defenseman and closer to the league minimum.

I am all for trading Pionk.

They could free up additional money trading one or both of Namestnikov and Vesey.
Agreed, I'd just like to prefer to keep Strome, he's a perfect piece during this transitional time.

Strome shouldn't be moved, he could turn out to be what the islanders thought they were drafting in the first round. I'm willing to give him more time to find out.

Guys like Names and Strome are good pieces to keep for the rebuild. Versatile players with a lot of experience that both have enough pedigree that maybe there's some untapped potential left there. Vesey isn't a guy you have to get rid of either, but at least he's at a position where there seems to be an abundance of guys you could slot ahead of him on the depth chart. Especially if Kakko and Kravtsov both start with the big club.

totally agree...good depth veterans that can play in the top 6 or bottom 6. and strome is your insurance as the #2 center. they allow you to play the kids where they should be instead of being forced into certain roles...obviously you move them if you get a really good offer, but i think there are spots for kakko and kravtsov and i'm not really seeing any other forwards you need to clear room for...so i'm not looking to blow them out just to clear a spot

and for guys that have been in the league for several years we shouldn't forget just how young strome and names are...strome is younger than mika. so while i don't think anyone has them penciled into the long term plans, they are actually the right age that they could be part of the longer term solution depending on where they fit

He'd have insight on a lot more important things than that, like how to run a good hockey club. Did a phenomenal job in St. Louis in a short amount of time. Made some mostly smart moves with Columbus, (head coach aside). This is not about Panarin, its about a Cup.
No kidding. But Panarin is a big decision and he will know the player well and if he’s worth the investment.

I don’t think any of them can, to be honest, but Vesey had a high team G total and Names would be not much worse or better at 2C than Strome.
Not that I want him there or love the guy or anything but I feel Strome can do it for a longer period of time and do it a little better then Names could. Strome performed pretty well for us since getting here. Can PK, be on the PP, all situations type guy. He had a high shooting% but he performed admirably.

Vesey is the odd piece. One year to UFA and not a penalty killer. He is what he is going to be. Take the best offer and move on.

returns being similar, if you need to move 1 of them to clear a spot, vesey is definitely the first guy to go. like you said he doesn't kill penalties and is the least versatile of the trio

Names is less than 8 months older than Strome and their numbers have mostly been comparable. This is a question for next TDL, not this offseason.
