They could carry 3 goalies though apparently that's tough in practices. I think it's gonna be a competition between Georgiev and Shesterkin in training camp/preseason and whoever performs best will start as the backup. That said, I also expect them to swap up and down quite a bit

I'd expect more 40 starts for hank and the other 42 split between Georgiev and Shesterkin, but could depend on how everyone is playing. If Hank is playing really well, I think Quinn will ride that streak. If the younger guys are playing well, they'll get playing time, etc.

At any rate am I the only one that sees Gorton and thinks he looks more like the strength coach or the equipment guy than the general manager?

He looks like the bug from MIB.

This is why I've consistently said that the Rangers will most likely have no issue carrying Hank as a 3rd goalie on the team as a sacrifice towards him. There are plenty of ELC guys that can be sent up and down on paper transactions, and all of the goalies are waiver exempt right now so sending them down to Hartford for extra games and practices is not an issue. Not all 3 goalies will be up all the time at the same time, but there may be period where we are running 3 goaltenders

It tends to go a little deeper than that --- practices are harder to run, and a rotation can be hard to balance.

Especially in the case of a rookie goalie who you're trying to get a good read on, while also balancing the development of a more experienced, and less-heralded goalie, who is actually several months younger than said rookie.

There's no way around it, it's going to be a delicate balancing act for a while.

I'm still gonna act like it's feasible that Lundqvist plays till he is 42 or so.

Dwayne Roloson, Sean Burke, Nikolai Khabibulin, Curtis Joseph, Tim Thomas, Ed Belfour, Dominik Hasek, Martin Brodeur all played past 40 making contributions even if they weren't starting. Lundqvist backstopping Shertyorkin on a 2022 Cup Run with Kakko, Kravtsov, Chytil, Zibanejad and Panarin all scoring 70+ points sounds realistic to me. :sarcasm:

Next year they will most likely start Shestyorkin in AHL, and have Georgiev back up Hank. When Georgiev gets close to the limit regarding waivers I guess they will switch spots.
Should give Hank around 50 starts, and the 2 others 15 each as back-up and half a season each as starters in AHL. The last season of Hanks contract will make some problems.
We’d better try to avoid this route. Georgiev doesn’t have anything to gain from an AHL stint, and is a FA after next season.

We signed him from Europe. If he thinks we're disrespecting him and might stick him in Hartford, he might not care if we retain his NHL rights. He'd get a tasty KHL contract after being the heir apparent to Hank.

Well, it's not as if he has good memories of his time playing in Russia. Empty promises and annual summer camps in Finland gave him reasons to leave Russia

New Larry Article

-JD has out clause to join the Rangers, expect it soon
-Rangers will be in on Panarin but how much?
-Rangers will have to trade Kreider with an extension in order to maximize return.
-Estimates it cost $12 million to keep RFAs which would leave $10 million left over
-If Dallas wins tonight it will allow Rangers to be even more aggressive in getting into the top 10.

Can't possibly go wrong

If they want to open up some cap space, it'll be pretty easy for them to do so.

Sounds like Kreider is probably moving on. He alone would solve the space issue but I assume that Vesey will also be moved and they really should be trading Pionk instead of signing him.

I'm probably alone here, but I'd prefer that Hanks not brought back at all.

I have no sentimental feelings towards his tenure here and think the 4+ million he's going to get will be better spent elsewhere

He wants to sign for piddly money (1.5 on consecutive one year deals, by all means welcome back) but beyond that, having either Georgie or Shesty live in that shadow?

Pass

Larry’s pretty much summarized the last 10 pages of this thread.

All comes down to what he's willing to do, but I'm not for carrying a 4 mill backup. 2-3 on annual deals for Hank? Ok. If there's an injury to Shesty, you wouldn't feel horrible about having Hank.

Hank will play here until he’s cooked. Can’t see it going any other way. No way does Georgy not get traded if Shesty lights up the A and looks good on a call up...

That looks like what we’ve all been talking about for years, Shesty/Hank mentorship/dual starters until Hank can’t go anymore.

I mean, I love georgy and I think he has serious potential, but this is what we’ve been working towards and I am set on that personally until it is proven otherwise.

I think there’s a chance that Staal is traded the next deadline, we retain a bit but get decent return too. A contender that wants his vet presence and pk for two solid runs on the third pair. Also similar scenario for Hank, tdl move as depth for someone with a young goalie, gets to go on another run or two and maybe get those 500 wins. Would be just over a season with another team. He’ll have to have another really hard year here but it’s possible and might change his mind, can he mentally take another year like this past season.

If JD is our new President he would have great insight on possibly trying to sign Panarin.
