I wouldn't mind a couple buy low gambles like Pouliot, Grabner, or Stralman.

Low term, low salary, possible reclamation.
If they can move a couple of guys I’d think guys like you described are a for sure. I’ve mentioned Petrovic, Lindberg, Bellemare. The only thing that throws a wrench in that is if they acquire one or two bad contracts, ala Callahan

I just don’t see it unless some of the existing pieces are being moved out, like Vesey, Fast, Names up front and Shattenkirk and / or Pionk on the back end.

Lundqvist's comments to the Swedish newspaper reveal his mindset. He knows the Rangers are taking the team into a different direction. Henrik has his own agenda. He wants to be here forever and play for as long as he wants. There is nothing to prevent the Rangers from taking the team into a different direction. He saw Quinn play Georgiev so much. He saw how well Georgiev played. Georgiev outplayed him. He knows the Russian goalie is signed. He can see it with his own eyes.

I don't know if I will stay in Rangers throughout my career. I have two years left on the contract and it has always been my goal to remain in Rangers. But when you get up in the years you never know. I have my own agenda, but if the club wants something else, I have to be sensitive to it. You can't just run your own race. It's not always the dream is realistic, we'll see how it gets. Now I focus everything on the World Cup, says Henke.

Did Lundqvist really clarify his comments in the email to Brooks? Henrik is committed to the Rangers. He made that clear in his comments to Expressan. How committed are the Rangers to Lundqvist? That is the question. That is what Lundqvist was expressing to the Swedish journalist. That topic wasn't addressed in the Brooks email. He wrote the Rangers and him are on the same page. The Rangers are looking at replacing Lundqvist. That's not being on the same page.

The Rangers say they love Lundqvist. They do love Lundqvist but they have their eye on the future too which doesn't include a 37 year old Lundqvist. Hank is not going to be here forever.

We will see what happens. The situation will play out.

MSG Network has a new show with Bill Pidto and Alan Hahn until the summer.

Gorton was on last night.

Gorton's Thoughts on Hughes, Kakko - MSGNetworks.com

Gorton said we are making deals, we are trying to trade people and doing things we can do when he was asked about the team looking for a team president. Business as usual. Gorton makes the hockey personnel decisions.

He also discussed the #2 pick, the prospect signings and the Fox trade.

Do you mean in the mold of those guys, or those guys specifically? I have no interest in any of those players. I much prefer guys like Claesson.

Pidto trys too hard to get Gorton to spill the beans on if they want Kakko or Hughes.

Not suggesting we offer sheet anyone at all, but does it have to be our picks used as compensation? For instance- we have TBs 2nd this year, would that work?

It has to be our picks, and they have to be 2020 picks (and beyond, in the cast of multiple 1sts). Because of the Fox deal, we can't do any offer sheet that includes a 2nd or 3rd round pick as compensation.

When Hank signed his contract, he was asked how it felt to be sure that he could remain a NYR for the duration of it due to the NMC. Don't remember if it was in Swedish or English, I think it was in Swedish but I am not sure.

Anyway he answered that a NMC didn't mean that, only that you could chose were to go if the team wanted to trade you. He said that you can never remain with a team that wants to trade you. Something like that.

I posted about it, should be able to dig it up searching my old posts from the time just after he signed, if the history is still available...

Nobody is penciling him to run the first line and score 75 points his first season.
Not exactly that, but you do see comments that he is a top-6 "lock" and that he and the other 'yutes will make material enough impact to make this team a bubble playoff one.

Probably won’t happen, but things need to get slightly creative if you think we ever have a shot of landing a solid piece in a trade.
I do not think that Gorton;s vision includes trading away first round picks as soon as next year. Nor of trading for established players.

Who are the people he is trying to trade?

I think that was part of it. I'm guess that was more methodical as far as letting that comment slip. I think it means he's making aggressive moves though. I'd assume he's primarily looking to rid of Shatty and Smith.

It wasn't "trade for players". Felt like a significant comment to me.

I don’t think so either, this was more spitballing. I was insinuating that the Rangers aren’t going to continue to pile up 1st round picks year after year after year after year. First, there’s just not enough playing time to go around for everyone in the NHL. Second, to get a quality player in a trade, when the Rangers feel the trade market is good for them, I would imagine them using a quality draft pick and a quality player to get in return a quality player from another team that fulfills a need, whether that’s a 1D or a 1/2C, we need to give to receive, that’s all I was getting at.

Dallas wins game 7, Zuccarello re-signs in the offseason, that’s 5 1st round picks without dealing Kreider. Do you really think there’s a chance the Rangers will draft and intend to use an additional (5) 1st round picks in these next two years, including what they already have? I could see Kreider signed, and then he’s packaged and traded with a 2020 1st rounder for a coveted player.

Yes, they would. Given the general odds, if Jets, Dallas-19 and Dallas-20 produce 1 above average NHL player and 1-2 role players, Gorton did very well. Are we really in position where we can't add a younger version of Hayes and Korpikoski to the team, plus another good prospect we get for Kreider?

In the mold of. Gambles should be in their's 20's when we bring them in ideally.

Riley Sheahan
Oscar Lindberg
Kenny Agostino

Maybe Andrej Sustr, who they had interest in in the past.

Hank will not even win a single playoff game as a Ranger. He will retire before we make the playoffs again.
I dunno. I see a (slim) chance of him staying as the graybeard backup to whichever of the kids they keep.

It all comes down to his pride – or put another way, does his desire to remain a Ranger trump his desire to be "the man".

You'd have to think Staal would be open to a move if we could find a taker. The sun's setting on his career, and his best chance at a cup is definitely elsewhere. If we retain 50%, I could see a team being interested in him having a bottom-pair role.

Smith is a tougher sell. I think we're stuck with him. He rebounded a bit this season, but as a winger.

Shattenkirk, I think you give him a chance to rebound. His value is very low right now. He came into camp out of shape and injured. If he turns it around and manages to play well this season, you have an asset at the TDL that you might not even have to retain on in order to move. Our depth on the right side is garbage, so it's not like you're blocking anyone other than maybe Pionk.

I don't envy Gorton. Rebuilds are tricky. You need to strike a balance between giving your young players a legitimate shot, and making them compete and earn their ice.
