Carolina is a team I could see having MAJOR interest in Hank.

Scott Darling + for Hank

Carolina only takes on about $4.35m in cap hit for the next couple of years. Carolina is a team on the rise and obviously a team that can compete. Perhaps Hank likes the idea of going there with a chance to win. Hank is only owed $7m and $5.5m in real dollars the next couple of seasons. $1m in signing bonus so perhaps the Rangers pay that for next year and trade him once it's paid.

Darling makes $4.1m and $3m over the next couple of seasons.

You guys are going to think I’m crazy, but how about Lundqvist at 50% to...The Leafs. More salary would have to be exchanged of course.

Looking at need and current situation with goalies I think Calgary and Carolina make the most sense for both sides. Lundqvist makes either team a contender and they have goalies on expiring contracts

I believe that professional athletes that have not put their bodies through the same rigors of actual NHL play will not age the same.

Players that are 27 years old and have been playing 80+ games a year from the time they were 16 will age quicker than those that have played 60+ games for most of the same duration.

Wear and tear absolutely have an impact later in life.

And I believe that the difference with Panarin is significant

But I could be wrong.

The determining factor in age deterioration is genetics. You can cite examples across the board of every combination: less mileage, earlier decline; more mileage, later decline; less mileage, later decline; more mileage, earlier decline... and everything in between. The only thing that seems to be true is that more physical, smaller players like Callahan nearly always see an earlier decline. There’s no discernible pattern otherwise.

I agree. But I'm going to assume he does change his mind: what contending team has the need and the cap space to add him?

If he's having a good season next year, then I could see a team making a choice to add him. I think the return would be more Grabner than Hayes or Nash. They would have to retain and maybe get creative with taking back a contract. I'm looking at a contending team with a weaker goalie tandem or an injury that arises. Calgary, SJ, Colorado, maybe Edmonton if they climb into the playoff picture next year and we take back a contract, although Hank has a clause and he doesn't strike as a western Canadian kinda guy.

I'd be shocked if anyone gives anything even remotely of value for Henrik. At this point I'd rather just keep him and have him for his leadership and legacy.

Completely agree, but if he asks for a trade... then what?

If he asks for a trade? You put him wherever makes him happy while making the most business sense for all parties involved. Highly doubtful this happens. I agree with @haohmaru that he might have been referring to his next contract after these two years are done.

Knowing him, he feels good enough to keep playing after these next two years, but most likely won't be a spot for him by that time.

If he's willing to be a back-up I don't see why he couldn't stick around past this contract.

I think it's a tough ask to take your Franchise guy and make him a backup. I think that would be more likely if he signed elsewhere in 2 years.

Anythings possible, if the teams turning the corner then maybe he decides to roll with it.

Columbus would be a possibility for Lundqvist. Bob is leaving. Korpisalo isn’t the answer. I am assuming that they will still be a competitive playoff team after the Russians leave in free agency. They will have a lot of money to play with this summer. Does Hank want to play for Tortorella again?
LOL

Yep, that was the rumor. Just felt like Hank would be a better fit there.
Why is Hank a better fit for Florida than Bob, who is younger, phenomenal, owns a house there, and is great friends with another of their top targets, Panarin?

I'd do lucic and their first for Henrik
f*** that. I would legit disown this team if they did that. Besides, not in a million years would that go through. Hank would flash his NTC badge, and the relationship between him and the club would be ruined forever.

It is also the great unknown when signing free agents. At this point, we simply have no measurable way to determine how a player ages. Bio-mechanics and bio-analytics seem to be the next area that will impact all of sports. But we are simply not there yet. Looking at genetics is currently only anecdotal: looking at parents, siblings, etc. But that is not scientific. Currently, players can be gym rats, eat right, do everything right and sometimes will still hit the aging wall in their early 30s (sometimes before). Or not.....
