You can't really compare that draft to this one. They're arguably the deepest (2020) and weakest (2017) draft in the salary cap era.

It's not like we passed up on a bunch of players who are lighting it up in the NHL now

i still have hope for Lias. He’s a young kid and was stuck in a dead City called Hartford. Despite returning, last i checked Kravtsov took off too. Rangers might want to work on their communication and well being of these kids.

He had some time in Manhattan. Is Hartford really so bad?

Barron on the 4th line could be the infusion into the team we need to solidify our bottom 6. If he can eventually grow into a 3rd line player, that's huge.
He can, but not sure that a purely 4th line role is what he needs to develop. Not against it at all, but think that the overall team would be better diversified if the bottom 6 could bring a different sort of element.

What if Gettinger takes a step and pushes Lemieux to the third line

I hope both Gettinger and Barron make an impact sooner rather than later. Size isn't the end all be all but teams that have that bottom-6 depth of guys who are bigger and can play will create mismatches in today's NHL with all of the smaller, more skilled defensemen throughout the league.

i think he’s somewhere between Nemchinov and Hayes. He may calm down with age but today he does like to throw his body around which i love. He’s heavier on the puck yet doesn’t appear to have that gear so many want. No secret, i like physical players.

If i could find a do it all Rick Tocchet type i would flood the team with them. No, Holloway is not RT but he can pass the biscuit, score some goals and will hit.
As long as Tocchet isn't coaching, I'm fine with that.

Why do I get the feeling that Holloway is going to get the Brady Tkachuk treatment around here leading up to the draft? "NHL teams are dumb. They can't see he's just a 3rd liner and they only like him because of #toffnuss."
I'm not so sure I agree with that. He was the second youngest draft eligible player in the NCAA this year and he really came on at the end of the season. He has skill. At a minimum, I'm intrigued.

Building a team is little like casting a movie. You need different types. Holloway would certainly be a different than what the Rangers have right now.

from selected high and feeling the energy of Broadway to low energy Hartford could play tricks with a local kid let alone a kid from another Country.

You never know what’s going on in a person’s life. A one off (him leaving) could be the kid yet when i see two kids (Kraskov too) takes off i don’t think the organization gets an automatic pass.

Holloway is more Lawson Crouse than Brady Tkachuk.

He'd be fine with our 2nd 1st but he likely won't be there.

Crouse isn't a great skater, Holloway is like a discount Chris Kreider, or for those that remember, a Jason Chimera. A north south winger who has really good wheels, and plays a hard checking game.

I don’t mind Smith and agree that you could do worse. Considering the comment I was responding to was sarcastic in the first place, my response really wasn’t intended to trigger much debate on it. You could do worse than Smith on the 4th and you could do better. I actually like him as a teammate and locker room guy. If he wanted to stay for like 800k I’d probably even be happy to take him as depth. It was really just a half hearted response to an already not serious comment.

Nobody lives or hangs out in downtown. West Hartford is actually quite nice and all of ten minutes from the arena.

I wouldn't use the immediate location as an excuse. Frankly, NYC could be more overwhelming to a kid from a small town in Sweden.

he’ a 20/21 Russian. (Edit, he’s not Russian. Not sure why i posted that) Com’on, what’s he going to do? Go shopping in West Hartford? Ny is a melting pot and everybody fits in IMO. Boston is a bit clicky yet there is enough going on. Hartford and CT is a train wreck IMO. Heck, i’ve worked all three areas and no collective group is as snobbish as Connecticut.

Not sure what happened and maybe it is the kid. We had two of them leave the team though. One returned

I’m still hoping for Lias to come around. Odds are iffy
