I think with two 2nd rounders and our scouting department, we could've drafted a younger Adam Fox. Moreover, we could've waited a year and had both. I don't see why this was necessary at all. One 2nd for an expedited timeline? Ok, I guess. Price of doing business. Two? No, I don't see how that is advisable.

Uh no there isn’t a younger Adam Fox in the entire draft

Not making this move because you are banking on drafting a "younger Adam Fox" and deferring an entire year in the hopes that he has the same priorities with the Rangers seems impossibly clairvoyant.

is there a 3rd pairing thug right d out there coming available in the next few seasons? I know this is old school thinking but we need a guy like a more mobile McQuaid to balance out the other guys on the right side. The Rangers are going to be really young and Charmin soft. I am also not against adding say Ryan Reaves for 6 minutes a night if he can take a shift and not Tanner Glass it.

With Fox on the Roster, it would be wise to explore a trade for Pionk and Shatts. You will have to eat salary on Shatts.

If you move Pionk, you're not paying for guy whose going to rake in 2.3 to 2.8 for the next two years. Essentially it's $500K difference on the cap between a Shatt retention and a Pionk deal.

Rangers will get more value on a Shatts move given the situation above. I'm sure Kevin can get a nice retirement deal to be on MSG once his career is over. Agreeing to a deal would be a sign of good will.

If thats true, then how did 30 teams (including both our own and the one that drafted him) not see that, twice over, just three years go?
This upcoming draft is actually not a 2016 re-draft.

There may be a younger Adam Fox in this draft. Expecting that you should find him with a second round pick is some kind of crazy.

we didn't pass on him...he got picked #66 and our first pick of that draft was Day at #81

If things work out:

K'Andre - Fox
Skjei - ADA
Hajek/Rykov - Nils/Pionk

Kakko - Zibanejad - ??
Kravtsov - Chytil - Butcher
Lemieux/Lias - Howden - Strome
Barron - Nieves - Vinni

Need a top center or winger, depending on whether Chytil winds up a winger or a center (I think eventually he's a center, once he's not a sheltered teenager). Also need another top RD prospect because D prospects bust a lot and we need "bust insurance," but also need an offense-first forward. I would use the Jets pick on an RD, and then in the forward-heavy 2020 draft, grab a high-end forward prospect in the top 5 or so.

But things are looking massively up compared to a month ago with Kakko and Fox in the fold, and the Jets pick significantly higher than where we expected it.

The more I see moves like today’s. the more I think Panarin is going to have the best deal on the table from NYR come July 1st. Wouldn’t be surprised with $11m x 7.
Hope not. That's too much. And too long.

I'd just bring back McQuaid. Two year deal. Though a LD version might be a smarter move.

Might be wiser to just keep Shattenkirk and Pionk around and keep Fox in the AHL for the first half. Hopefully he bangs down the door and they have no choice but to move someone to make room.
Sometimes it takes that kind of situation to force a resolution rather than doing something proactively. I know it's a little counter-intuitive.

Was it just me or did Gorton sound like a guy that’s looking to make more moves on D in the Brooks article ?

Creative trades and no butouts please

Jeff Gorton needs to acquire more picks and younger assets. He traded two picks for Adam Fox. The Rangers have been trying to find a top RHD offensive D for while. They tried going the free agent route with Dan Boyle and Kevin Shattenkirk. Not good. Glen Sather tried to acquire Boyle from TB at the 2008 trading deadline. The Rangers have tried to acquire Tyson Barrie. They acquired Tony De Angelo. He is a good player. He isn't the answer. All of the Rangers fan love him. The guy is still a jerk and needs a lot of handling. If you listened to game day podscasts with Dave Maloney, you will know what I am referring to. He needs a lot of maintenance. Hopefully, Fox becomes their Barrie. A perennial 50 plus point D. They are built the same.

The Winnipeg pick could have started out at #28-#31. It should have started out there. Winnipeg blew the division to Nashville. If Winnipeg was right, they would be in the WCF. The pick was at #22. Now it's #21. Depending upon what happens with the other series, it could go move up 1-2 more spots. Columbus is leading their series. Boston looks gassed. Toronto with all of their issues should have won the series with Boston. Dallas is 50/50. Dallas was trailing Nashville 2-1 too. Ben Bishop needs to play better. The AVs are down 2-1. They could have won last night. It cost the Rangers a mid 2nd to move 4 spots last season to select Miller. It would have cost the Rangers their 2nd to move up from #28-#31 to the late teens/early 20's. It happened without the Rangers making a trade. The Rangers moved their 2nd to acquire Fox.

Gorton has options to acquire more picks. Chris Kreider's situation needs to be addressed in the next two months. I read Joe Smith in The Athletic last week. He brought up TB attaching an asset(draft pick/young player) to move Ryan Callahan's contract. The Rangers take on the $5.8M which allows TB to sign Brayden Point to a huge extension. The Rangers flip #58 back to TB for the contract and #27. You could say that wasn't necessary with the Rangers at #37. The Rangers traded #37 yesterday.

The Rangers were looking at their pick. The Rangers moved up 4 spots with giving up anything. You could say that also made it easier to trade #37. When the Fox rumors popped up in late March/early April., the draft lottery hadn't happened yet. The Rangers were looking #6 or worse if other teams jumped them. The Hawks did jump from #12 to #3.

The Rangers aren't getting the TB 1st because they got swept in the 1st round. They traded their 2nd round pick. The Dallas pick is a toss up. They were looking at potentially 5 picks in the first 37. Now it can only be 3 picks. It could be just 2. The Rangers really like this draft too. Very much. Gorton needs to get more picks for this draft.

Larry Brooks is infatuated with the Rangers hire for team president. Every move needs to be rubber stamped by the next president. Gorton needs permission from the next team president for everything. The Rangers are hiring someone to replace Sather. Slats has left Gorton alone to do his thing. He involved but isn't involved.

It has been a while since Brooksie has mentioned Kevin Hayes.

Would you...

Trade Lias Anderson for Jacob Trouba straight up if you knew Trouba would sign a long term extension?

At worst in a few years it will be an even trade, at best - highway robbery by the Rangers.

100%. I would then explore a trade of Shattenkirk with retention where you would recoup one of the 2nd round picks traded for Fox and look for a Pionk + something to move up in the draft or acquire a player like Kapanen.

The right side, on paper, would be set moving forward with Trouba, ADA and Fox.

And to who ever posted they'd rather keep the picks dealt for Fox to have a better shot of drafting "a younger Fox", hes 21! Defense take longer on average to reach their developmental peak. I cant with some of these comments.
