What would dubas’ team look like if he wasn’t handed Matthews, marner, nylander, O’Reilly and Tavares didn’t choose to sign with them. What has that kid really done other than cost them two years of prime contending window with an obviously soft not gonna cut it defense?

I don't know, I don't think they are built to win in the playoffs, but then again, they were one game away last time. IMO they need to learn how to win, and that means defending as a 5 man unit. Their personnel doesn't support that, so they run and gun.

Almost all of Puljujarvi's points are either goals or primary assists and he's looked really dominant. More so than anyone else in Liiga. Apart from playing with McDavid/Drai no-one in the Oilers really scores even strength points. Well your Strome had two points before he was traded last season.

lets wait for us to have 2 1st pair RDs before being over-dramatic about having 5
If ADA has the season that everyone expects him to, he’ll be a first pair RD (making him our 2nd, for those counting) heading into free agency

If we can steal J.P I'm all for it. Hopefully for players who arent in our future. They mishandled him badly.

He makes less than 2M now. He’ll get a raise I assume but are there many comps that suggest he’s in line for a huge bump? He’s a very good utility winger, I can’t imagine he’ll be cashing in too significantly.
Of course he is better. Or is in a perfect world. In reality? I would take both Smith and Haley ahead of him in 6 minutes in ES time from a 4th line. Not to mention the reality is that you are right. He is going to get a raise. Which makes him a $3m 4th liner next year. Which is something that this team cannot afford.

IF everything goes well in the best case scenario we might have 2...just need 3 more for your scenario

Are you saying we need five before we can use any to address our biggest hole?

no you said

Let’s have five first pair RDs and one top-six C. Sounds like a winning blueprint.

as if that was the current situation and why we should trade trouba less than a year after trading for him...so I'm just counting how many more first pair RHD we need to meet your exaggerated scenario cause you didn't want trouba and will look for any reason to get rid of him so you can say 'see i told you he wasn't worth the money'

Imo it’s also perfect world type thinking when your fourth liners won’t ever have to play up in the lineup and/or your lines in practice play out the way you’d think they would in theory. Neither is very likely. People get hurt, lines get shuffled to mix things up and try to find new combinations. Having Fast in that mix instead of someone like Haley is absolutely worth the extra money.

So what you're saying is, you didnt catch the sarcasm

Find me the post where I say anything bad about the Trouba deal. I'll wait.

The point was, his trade protections don't kick in until July. If you want to move him and build around ADA as your first pair, there is a short window for that. I didnt advocate for that, I merely pointed it out as a limited possibility.

Just to be clear, Puljujarvi is five months older than Lias. Both were born in 1998. Lias in October, Puljujarvi in May.

They didn’t sign Trouba for 7 years and make him one of the highest paid D in the league to trade him immediately

Give me a break

if he were a Giant, Dave Gettleman would consider it.

I think the trade bait is Kreider and a bit more could land JP.

Howden for Pulju + 4th
Strome takes 3C
Strome for 2 2nds at the TDL
Andersson goes to 3C
Fast for a 3rd and Pulju comes over

Andersson being used to cement his defensive game, his work ethic, attitude, and underlying skills are there to transition up a line later

If you go on the EDM boards, it seems what they're looking for are wingers. I'm not sure they have much interest in Howden or Andersson. If you look at their depth chart they are very low on LW. My guess is, their interest may be in Kreider, Buch or Fast. And we'd be getting back more than just Pulju. Unless we're getting back a 1st, Pulju and maybe another pick, I wouldn't move Kreids or Buch. For Fast, it would need to be minimum 2nd Rd Pick and Pulju. But if we're moving any players off the NHL roster -- this is just a tough deal. Our forward depth is pretty thin. And so is Edmonton's. Picks are a lot easier.

Would u move a 2021 2nd and 2020 4th for Pulju? Would Edmonton accept?

Thanks- it's really what it is. I'm okay with Robertson being moved. Jones is crushing it, you have Key, two 21 year old LHDs on the NHL roster, Rauenen, Rykov. Those are a lot of players to leap frog, and the time horizon is a long one.

To me that's a calculated risk, one that isn't going to hurt your organizational depth to get a guy like JP. Not that there is a fit for EDM, but trading a Howden or Lias for a leap of faith is... exactly what that sounds like.
I believe from what Gorton has said, that he is collecting assets in order to use them to get the players he wants. And I’m sure he’ll overpay if need be. He appreciates that everyone they draft won’t be Rangers forever (of course). But my point is he’s building capital and will use it to get who he wants even if it means overpaying.
