It’ll never happen but I really don’t see why trading Trouba is outlandish. We’re strong on RD now with young players and have a good prospect pool there. We’re much weaker at center and LD. RD are always in demand around the league and a lot of teams wanted him from WPG but didn’t want to risk the contract situation. Now he is signed for 7 more years and will have a NMC beginning next year so this is the only time it’s even possible. Given the state of this roster if you could swap Trouba for an equivalent level center (think along the lines of a Jones/Johansson style deal) you really wouldn’t consider that just because we just traded for him?

And say goodbye to ever signing a UFA ever again

I think the players well understand it’s a business. He’d be nowhere near the first player traded before a clause kicks in. We just signed Shattenkirk and bought him out two years later how’d that affect Fox and Panarin wanting to play here?

Love the idea of acquiring Pool Party. But I'm getting a nagging suspicion it would be a one-for-one deal with Andersson.

Lias Andersson has been nothing but good for us this year while getting saddled with career tough guys and defensemen as his wingers.

he has shown marked improvement from last year, he seems stronger, and is playing a more simplified game. He sticks up for his teammates, and is the right kind of tough, which is an element that all teams need.

Jesse Puljujarvi whined when he couldn't make the big club on a team starved for scoring depth on the wings.

I know which player I would rather have.

Except Lias is in NHL and Pulju in Liiga.

It’s certainly a cute one-liner, but I don’t believe it’ll be true for long; at least the former.

In my 29 years of watching this game, I have never been less impressed with a player than I am with Lias Andersson. Ultimately, I believe he will end up back in Sweden. It will never work out for him over here. Likewise, I believe Buchnevich will be in the KHL sooner or later - and there’s nothing wrong with that. This league isn’t for everyone and it takes more than puck skills to be a meaningful player. Unfortunately for Lias, I believe he grades below average is nearly every facet of the game. Time will tell.

I get it Lias hasnt been scoring so he must not be good right. Because otherwise I am not sure what you are basing your personal grades on. He has played physical. He has looked quicker on the forecheck this year. He has been defensively responsible and has done his job on the PK. He is getting very limited 4th line minutes with guys who are barely NHL players themselves. I mean what in the hell do you expect? He makes sound plays even with guys who handle the puck like its a hot potato. Thats great youve been watching for 29 years but it clearly hasnt done you any favors in being more astute in evaluating a player.

And then you took a step further and threw a jab at Buchnevich. The guy may never be a 1st line winger. He may only be a 2nd line-3rd line tweener, but he had his best season last year statistically and he is off to a good start this year in that department. His all around game is improving, doesnt mean he will win a selke, but it is improving. He is 24 years old.

I didn’t say a word about Lias here that was the other kovalev

But since you brought me up, i do think people so impressed with Lias this season are really reaching though. He’s got 1 secondary assist and is a minus player. I mean everyone has at least 1 pt. Lindgren has a point. If you are going to say he’s been really good well maybe in a 4th line role and on pk I guess, but let’s not pretend this is the breakout performance we were hoping for. He won’t sniff 20 pts. Lucky if he gets 10. You’d think at worst he’d be a top end 4th liner. That’s not happening.

Sorry mate, to many kovalev's :D he's doing OK on the 4th/PK, no breakout or anything, but he is not on the verge of busting to sweden as to the other alexei neither is he almost breaking top line center status, ffs he is 21 -.-

I don't really know Andersson well enough, but I know Puljujarvi's ceiling is still very high. He has already played for a while at a level that would help the Rangers a lot (remember his season opener against you two years ago), a tough season in the Oilers bottom six doesn't take away all the potential. But I understand the name of the game, everyone gets attached to their own prospects.

What do you want him to do with Michael Haley on his wing? Please explain. If youre expecting him to be Crosby or McDavid, skate through the entire team and score goals on his own then you are going to be sadly disappointed. How is this kid going to get points when he is averaging 10 minutes per game in a 60 minute contest. Last game he had 7:34 of ice time. Game before that 9:39. Two games before that 8:48. He has doing as much as he can with what he is being given. Pointing to +/- stats when it is based on Even Strength play is even more laughable. Who does he play with during Even Strength?

This is just pure laziness.

Edit: Brett Howden has been force fed minutes this year as the 3rd line center. He has 3 points and is a -1 (since we like to use +/- as an indicator). He is averaging 15+ minutes of TOI. How about we give that ice time and upgraded linemates to Lias before making your final grades...

Imo it’s also perfect world type thinking when your fourth liners won’t ever have to play up in the lineup and/or your lines in practice play out the way you’d think they would in theory. Neither is very likely. People get hurt, lines get shuffled to mix things up and try to find new combinations. Having Fast in that mix instead of someone like Haley is absolutely worth the extra money.
In a non-salary cap world, sure. In a salary cap world, you cannot have a $3m 4th liner. Yes, there is Smith, but the circumstances of how the Rangers got there are different. And you cannot possibly spend $7m on two 4th liners.

Sounds much like Puljujarvi's last year (=2 half seasons) in Edmonton. Just replace Haley with Lucic. I think most fans don't realize the extent of how many factors affect the point production. Of course the player has to earn the spot higher up in the lineup, but in some teams that takes longer and if it's a high pick we're talking about many fans won't have the patience through the whole process.

It took how long to find a RD that can play on the top pair? And now, after all that, we are trading him??

Can someone please explain to me the fascination with Puljujarvi? What has he done that he needs to be brought over?

And to top it all of, I read that we need to trade a legit top line wing AND something else to land him? Let's throw in Adam Fox while we are at it. Maybe then this prodigy could be landed.

Not sure where to begin, but here goes.

1. The Rangers are not trading Trouba. And they’re especially not trading Trouba because of Fox, ADA, Lundkvist and Keane. If you’re looking for potential trade bait, it’s the latter two.

2. Yes, the Rangers have checked in on Poolparty and will continue to do so. No, they aren’t adding substantial value for a player this board would’ve crucified had his post-draft seasons played out the same for us.

3. Just like when we were on a losing streak, let’s not throw spaceship into warp drive yet.
