Just remember the Rangers were in a better spot this time last year than we are this year.
Much depends on what happens at the TDL. Realistically, I do not see the Rangers sniffing a playoff spot. But for whatever reason if they are, one hopes that management will continue to look at this team realistically.

This should be the last year of asset gathering and much will depend on what happens at the deadline.

Petan hasn't accomplished much at the NHL level despite 100+ games. He's 24, probably belongs in AHL.

He absolutely killed the AHL this past weekend. 5 points in 2 games. Was already a point per game player there last season. He's not an AHL player.

We currently have Michael Haley on this team, playing, pretty regularly. Same for Brendan Smith, on forward. We talk about how one of our young centers would have to play with these guys. Petan blows them out of the water.

Petan can play center and wing, has good possession numbers during his career and could actually get a chance on this team, especially after the TDL.

Also, if we do get an injury on forward, our next man up is likely Lettieri or O'Regan. Petan is better than both of them and if he got a shot to play with some decent players, I think he'd produce.

Are you going to keep changing the topic? I didn’t even say anything bad about Lias. In fact I said I’d like to see him given a chance in a bigger role. Yes Puljujarvi is currently doing very well in Liiga. That is undoubtedly a good thing. Maybe Lias would too we have no idea since he isn’t actually there.

Maybe instead of trying to roster the best team we should just roster a team of your favorite players that you follow around so you can have fun watching them.

Why do we preach patience and development with Lias but not Puljujarvi? Both have been disappointing in the NHL so far but we do see Puljujarvi currently absolutely torching a pro league which Lias has never done. They are 5 months apart in age.

Yeah. I change the topic. Whatever dude. I'm going to pack for my weekend trip.

The Stepan return, 7OA pick in 2020 and a prospect like TDA who instantly becomes a top 2-3 performer for us on a nightly basis. Book it.

That'd be awesome.

Stutzle, Holtz, Lundell or Perfetti around there? Yes please.

Or maybe in package with our own pick to get up for Byfield.

Yeah but unlike last year, we are only likely to get better and better this season.

"but we do see Puljujarvi currently absolutely torching a pro league which Lias has never done. They are 5 months apart in age."

1. Puljujarvi is currently torching a pro league - fact.
2. Lias has never lit up a pro league at a similar rate - fact.
3. They are 5 months apart in age - fact.

Three factual statements so I'm not sure why it's bolded. Never said Lias played in lower level pro leagues at the same age. Puljujarvi's results at age 18 nor Lias results right now have any relevance to the three points listed above.

Why hasn’t he put up NHL points then? He’s played in 100+ games, hasn’t shown more than Smith or Lettieri or O’Regan at this point.

Dont waste your time. You wouldnt be able to convince him that Mcdavid is better than Lias

Can we just grab Petan and have Lias or Howden get some Hartford time? All parties would benefit, in my opinion.

whats the interest in petan? what am I missing?

if they want lias or howden in hartford I'd think that move can happen with mika gets back. I don't think they will but we don't need Petan to make it happen.

I’m not happy with Howden or Lias‘s play as of late, but sending either down with the expectation that Petan is going to do anywhere close to as well is ridiculous.

Petan isn't a game breaker, but when you have Haley and Brendan Smith making up 2/3's of a forward line, how could you not at least put in a claim?

Lias Andersson is not benefitting at all from playing 7 minutes a night between those two.

so the interest in petan isn't because you think he is a good player but rather assume he can't be worse than haley?

I had interest in Petan previously, I would only be interested now if for some magical reason the team had an epiphany and wanted to send one of Andersson/Howden down to Hartford to work on their game. Then obviously he would replace Haley

He doesn't make sense otherwise. McKegg is as good as Petan.

Listen, if the Rangers are serious about making a playoff run this year, they need to jettison Smith to Hartford or at least let him sit in the press box. Haley can stay as the extra for the big club for injuries, but he shouldn't be playing every night. Banishing Smith gives the front office the option to allow Andersson or Howden some Hartford time, though I have the inkling that it would be the former going down and not the latter. Trouba, Hajek, Staal/Lindgren, and Skjei can kill the penalties. There's literally no reason for Smith to be playing every game as a forward at ES. There are other defensemen on this team that can PK.

When all healthy

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Chytil-Kakko
Lemieux-Strome-Petan
McKegg-Howden-Fast

Skjei-DeAngelo
Hajek-Trouba
Lindgren-Fox

If Andersson goes to Hartford. It's time to let the kids play through some of their mistakes.

1) they are not...not even slightly. we really need to stop with this 'the rebuild is over, we can make the playoff' hot take trend after each random win. this is a lottery team

2) Brendan Smith is not playing because the team thinks we are better with him on the 4th line. He is playing because they don't want to use DeAngelo and Fox on the pk. so he is being dressed to help protect those guys until they are ready to take on those responsibilities.

I honestly think people would want him gone even if he were leading the league in scoring.
