Da hell? We're on a winning streak and our defense looks stable and you're going to put Staal back in there? Why? Really, why? Aren't you supposed to do what's best for the team, not the player?

There is reason to do so. It's literally now or never because of the NMC kicking in and we already know how tough he had been to negotiate with in the past. I'm sure they won't do it but it would really be a way to trade away from a strength to improve a weakness. We have many more RD prospects in the system than C prospects.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if even 2 of those RD prospects become NHLers.

At the end of the day, Staal is a respected veteran, who wears a letter, and has played nearly a combined 1,000 regular season and playoff games for this team. Regardless of whether or not his play warrants him playing again, I think Quinn is trying to be delicate and not further embarrass one of his players. To me, that's what a leader does in this situation.

I have no problem with Quinn being tactful. Staal has earned that much.

But if he wants to win and/or get the youngsters ice time then Staal should sit way more often than he plays.

Why would this matter - he's under contract until he's 33 years old. Unless he ages REALLY well, I doubt they'll even offer him a contract after this one expires.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again here

The Rangers will not experience sustained
Meaningful success with Zbad as our #1 center. YES THE GUY HAS STARTED OFF PHENOMENAL THIS SEASON. BUT he is brittle
And injury prone especially with his concussion history

AND YES THIS IS A CONCUSSION

So no one on here who lives and dies with this club is scared of Zbad and his constant injuries moving forward? Guys head is mashed potatoes at this point.

Probably more that people don’t believe something just because one person on a message board says it, especially when the team says the opposite.

Given Zibanejad's age, contract, and - most importantly - the Rangers' terrible depth at center now and really ever since the late 90's, I'd prefer to let the situation play out some more thank you very much.

Neal Pionk 53% CF%, 1% Rel
Jake Trouba 39% CF%, -5.7% Rel....

:sarcasm:

The last five years it has been very obvious that these stats didn’t reflect how good a player is, rel or adjusted or whatever. It’s down right hard to see any connection between these stats and performance.

The problem is that nobody looked for anything that didn’t support their theory, and confirmation bias is a thing...

I know many (very) bright people have backed them up, the thing is that they just don’t even remotely carry over from one situation to another. They exactly describe how a unit did in a game, how a unit did matching up against another unit and give you a ton of important info. But you CANNOT corsi scout individual players. A player on one team have one metrical identity, then their role change and they over night become a totally different player. Not to mention when a player change teams or what not. This pattern is so obvious. And the exceptions that suck so much that they always get sheltered, like say an Adam Clendenning or Cody Frasson or someone like that.

Jacob Trouba was a metric darling in Winnipeg. We just cannot start to hate him now just because he — like every player in the world ever, the last few years — get a very bad CF rating when they play the hardest minutes for us.

I meant in terms of teams that may have had interest in him previously would have more interest in him now that he is locked up to a contract rather than a pending UFA if he got traded elsewhere and went UFA.

I don't dislike Trouba and also CF% has nothing to do with this. If you look at my posts from the summer you'll see I didn't want to trade him for him in the first place and only was fine with it because we gave up a negative value player.

My own comments on Troubas NTC were premised on the decisions we have to make with ADA and Keane in the next two or three seasons. We’ll have a logjam of at RD if even one prospect makes the jump, and Keane is looking more and more like he will sooner rather than later. Maybe you can bridge ADA or maybe he holds out again. But if Trouba and Fox are givens, then we ought to see what’s out there in return for a booming ADA.

Ultimately, for me, the debate with Andersson is upside.

I think his trajectory to this point shows an NHL player (SHL, WJC, WC, AHL and NHL). So in that regard, I have little doubt he belongs in and will play in the NHL.

The question is what role will he play.

Personally, I never saw/projected a first line center. So that's not a factor in my consideration. I definitely think there's second line upside there. But in the end, if he's a third line center, that's not the end of the world for me either. What if he's Mike Ricci? I'm damn happy with that.

I can honestly say I am not really focused on lines or anything like that when it comes to our young players and prospects. I'm focusing on roles, and how those different roles fit together to make a competitive team.

If Andersson is a third line center who slots in behind Zibanejad and Chytil, I'm cool with that. If Fox is playing above his abilities on the third pair because he's behind Trouba and ADA, that's awesome. If Buchnevich is a skill player on the third line, and it works, so be it. If Kravtsov is a second line player behind Kakko and/or Panarin, that's great for us. Etc. Etc.
Personally what I’ve seen and still think he’s on the trajectory for is a solid 3rd line center on a winning team... a 20-20 guy that does all the lil things it takes to win... it’s not always pretty but it’s consistent.
Someone who can come up with a clutch overtime goal in the playoffs who you can also count on in The final minutes of a game when you have to close out with a lead. I personally think he’s gonna have a helluva career tho some what unspectacular if he’s in the right setting. Now yea I get you can pretty much say that about anyone but I think it would be a shame to move on from him right now cause his timeline is lined up perfectly with the rest of our prospects so I consider this to be the right environment for him to do all of that.
Or ya know. He’s just unspectacular and carves out a generic career. Which I think is his bare min floor at this point.
