Gaborik and Nash produced. Panarin has been producing as well. Zbad has produced.

ADA has been a fresh breath of air. So has Fox. And Trouba.

Renney, Torts, and AV all spent 5 season's here as head coaches, so our coaches shelf lives don't seem to be getting shorter.

Sather built a team that competed but fell short. Gorton is tearing it down and rebuilding it. There's a lot of good happening here but we'll have to be patient and trust the process.

That's fair. And again I said in another reply I am probably overreacting.

Eh, I was frustrated. And I had a couple of pops. I just cant seem to wrap my head around why it seems that players have a tough time performing in New York. We've had great teams recently, but the players brought in to push those teams over the top could never seem to find that extra gear. I guess I just don't understand it. Are the players we target just not good anymore, poor fit for the system, too old, perhaps a combination of those things? I'd like to see the team flex its financial might not just in the NHL, but with scouting, development, coaches, etc. Teams like Pittsburg, washington, Boston, etc seem to call up players from their farm and they immediately make an impact. Or at the least, fill the role they are assigned very well. I just wonder if the Rangers are gonna have that kind of strong system. Perhaps only time will tell.

I dont get what the specifics of this rant have to do with today, though?

The issue hasn't been Panarin or Trouba. The issue is it's a 2 line team at best, with an AHL left side defense.

Panarin has been great. That's true. Trouba has been up and down. Like you said, just a bit of a misplaced rant. And calling this team a 2 line team is pretty generous right now.

Two conference finals, a Stanley Cup final, a President's Trophy. They had a pretty good run even though they fell a little short. You don't get to that point for that many years without callups and FAs performing.

When you look at the defensive zone starts, it's obvious that a) the coaching staff has a lot of confidence in Howden and b) ditto for Hajek.

I think that rise in Hajek's game is one of the very best things to be happening so far this year. Playing with Trouba sure doesn't hurt but it's very exciting to see the dependence on him in the defensive zone and his graduation to full time penalty killing. We've got something here!

Yeah I agree. I posted about it when Hajek was acquired. He's a young player who know how to play the position, and is willing to do what it takes to make the right plays.

I didn't expect a lot of offensive upside, but he'll play on the Czech team's first D unit on the national stage in short order imo.

I really liked the staff pairing him with Trouba. It's helped Libor's confidence. Hopefully it grows, and that pair proves that they can take on top line matchups on a regular basis.

I'm not a big advanced stats guy, but this organization is sick. Its rotten from top to bottom. Great players come here and cant produce. Forwards cant score, defensemen aren't as dynamic, goalies lose the edge, fighters are run down, coaches shelf life is shorter, etc. Something in this **** hole franchise just brings the worst out in every player and these types of numbers, as well as others, just prove it more and more every day. It's very weird. And very sad.
So we'll mark you down as undecided on the rebuild.

Strome started off decent, was really bad for a few games and has been really good for a few games. He has also managed 11 points in 12 games. There are far worse things than another Ryan Strome.

Just feel he's a redundant piece with all the centers; holding back the kids.

I am not refuting that he hasn't played well, just feel he's rather an ancillary piece here. Hope he keeps up his play and gets us a nice pick/prospect at the TDL.

Takeaways from last game:

A game like that will get Staal back in the lineup and, if I'm guessing, Hajek takes a seat. Very unfortunate.

Georgiev is just as capable as Lundqvist of giving up six goals when the team in front of him are playing like a bunch of idiots.

KK starting to look a whole lot more comfortable out there

If Zibs is healthy then Haley should sit.

Gotta turn down the a.) testosterone b.) fancy schmancy nonsense

Ups and downs. Get used to it. It's going to be like this all year long.

Why? Ryan Strome has been better than advertised. I dont get all the hate, the guy produces , plays all situations and can play wing or center, is great on faceoffs, isnt scared of the dirty areas... I dont get it.

It's really bizarre. The guy has exceeded all expectations and people act like he's a net negative. He isn't.

I definitely get what you mean, and he is not a net negative.

BUT, he is so weak individually that he must play with two top guys on his wings — Panarin is probably top 3-5 in the game — to get to play to his strengths and be net positive.

If we have a center in Zibanejad and two kids at center — I would certainly prefer if the other vet was stronger individually, better on the PK etc. JMHO.

I think it's a combination of three factors:

1. Skepticism over the re-appearing dis-appearing trajectory of his career.

2. Concern over getting stuck with a bill of goods that is overachieving, and either not parlaying that into a better return at the TDL, or extending him and finding he can't match the contract he signs.

3. Anticipation for Chytil or a young center to grab that second line spot and not wanting them to be blocked.

All of that equates to a player that is widely viewed as being more Mr. Right Now for this club rather than Mr. Right. Once a player is viewed as stop-gap, it's very hard for the board to warm up to him.

and has been shown some grit that is not Michael Haley and willing to stick up for teammates and himself. Strome is way better than Spooner and I have no issue resigning Ryan Strome at a reasonable price even if its a 5 year deal depending on the cap hit, he will be 31 still young where he has value to trade him down the road.

On Georgiev, this isn’t going to be a super popular opinion, but I would trade him in a second.

First of all, I think we have — lowered — the bar of what is great goaltending thx to Hank’s demise. Hank isn’t a top goalie anymore, and there are many goalies who are really solid out there right now. Take Anders Nilsson for example, UFA that could be signed for 2.5m per at any time. Just as good as Geo IMO.

5-10 years ago getting he goaltending we are getting from Geo now would be great, at least top 20-25 in the NHL, which is great for a young kid. But now, is it anything special? I don’t think so.

Also, even if Hank certainly has his moments, and I still think he can steal a PO series or two, I think he in general is way to inconsistent compared to the top goalies out there. Too big movements, to big holes in how he covers he net.

I think it’s a bit irrelevant to discuss if Hank is top 15 or 20 or 30 or 40 or whatever. BUT, I don’t think Geo challenging Hank really creates any kind of baseline.

From my POV, many of the bigger goalies out there makes it harder to score on them than Geo does. Wouldn’t mind seeing us betting on one of them instead. JMHO.

Thirdly, I’ve had a looong patience with Brady Skjei, but he is starting to push it even for me lol. Damn, drop the boneheaded plays. I think it’s harder to play D for a poor team that we acknowledge, and that the standard D that starts to get into trouble for us probably would fare perfectly OK for a more consistent team. Skjei is not a ‘dumb’ hockey player per se, like say a Namestnikov.

But Skjei is struggling with his focus. He shouldn’t have problems settling down. He is making the typical mistakes a D with poor confidence is making.

OTOH, these things can take time. Sometimes you wait and give up hope after a long time, and things just fall in place all of a sudden.

I wouldn’t put this as a negative on DQ, or AV or Ruff. Different people communicate differently well with certain types. But with Brady Skjei, I wonder if a Mike Keenan type that was extraordinary sour due to a cheating wife, having gout for weeks and a first born son that told him he wanted to become a hairdresser, would be perfect.

Hank has one year left and then he is gone, we shouldnt be moving a young goalie to appease a guy for one year who was paid handsomely in the most desirable market for his entire career. He should accept a trade and move on at the deadline. I realize he has control over getting moved but if he is getting outplayed he has to be told he isnt going to play. If we have two guys who are better they should play, whether he is the King or not, we dont owe him anything. If he sits he will ask for a trade.
