Where is this myth that he sticks up for his team mates coming from? He did nothing in the Nashville game. He throws a few random hits a game and rarely fights anyone that takes liberities with our team.
I believe that to be a product of the coaching staff (at the time) mentality and insistence on how the game should be played.

Sprong is a guy that intrigues me. Tremendous skater and great shot. His play outside of the offensive zone needs some serious work though. He may be a guy that needs a fresh start. No idea what Pitt would want. Rutherford seems to like to trade for/swap struggling yet high talent guys.

Not to sound like a broken record but this team needs guys that can and want to shoot the damn puck.

How badly would Rutherford love to get zuccarello I wonder. Tampa has a hard on for our guys. Pitt does too.

Wonder if they could pry sprong and a first from him he knows he’d have to pay a bit more being a division rival. I’d be fine with it. Our windows aren’t going to overlap. Let him go play with his brothers.

I personally think Zuc is a perfect fit on the right side of McDavid and Nugent Hopkins. I dont know what a trade looks like but Zuc would be an 80 point guy on that line.

I don't watch Edmonton much at all so I'm going off mostly memory but isn't that line really needing a shoot first sniper kinda player? RNH is more a pass first guy right? More of a Kreider fit than Zucc.

Hopkins has started shooting more since he moved to that line. They are a puck possession line, I think adding Zuc to that would be really dangerous. You mentioned kreider, he would be a nice compliment to Draisaitl(or however its spelled) imo.

There have been a couple of hiccups where MacLeod ended up on the wrong end of the penalty call but I think he sets the tone for the style of play we all want, abrasive, in your face and sticking up for each other. He isnt going to score much if at all, and I would have preferred Rousell as he is a better player but he has played the way I'm sure the coach wants him to and within his own abilities. I tend to think that adding someone without his willingness to actually drops the gloves to the roster and removing him makes everyone a little less abrasive, and I know I'm gonna get abused for that comment but I've played enough hockey that I know everyone stands a little taller when they have someone that will back them up.

I wish more folks understood this. I think this also resonates more with people who have played the game too.

The big difference is that NHL draftees are 18 years old, not 23. It takes draftees much longer to reach the NHL so drafting based on need is just dumb

Also the fact that free agency opens way before the draft. You have a chance to sign guys for positions specifically first, and then draft if you can't.

Lots of hate for McLeod here. Truth is, he isn't a strong hockey player and is likely grasping onto his last season or so in the show. But...I can't jump aboard the the hate train. Truth is, this team as a whole has played for each other. They aren't getting pushed around like they have been for the past decade or so. McLeod is certainly a part of that. So while he isn't out there enforcing like a Joey Kocur would have done, the reality is that players nowadays simply cannot do that anymore. The team however with McLeod, with McQuaid, with Smith now has a new feel to it. I mean, did anyone every think they would see Brady Skjei actually drop the mitts? Well he did this year, and did so immediately after an opposing player took a liberty on one of his teammates. Without the new culture, no way does that happen. Other players have bought into the idea of sticking up for one another. Staal got into it with Domi. Since Staal got his ass whopped by Semin 10 years ago he never gets into it like that. Vesey stands up for himself.

Not saying this is all due to McLeod. But, the culture in general to me is a much welcomed change.

I've never played hockey and I agree with you guys. I just wish we could find an enforcer who wasn't terrible at every other aspect of the game.

That was why I was hoping we would have signed Rousell in the offseason. Would have been the best of both worlds or if Mcquaid had of been a good dman.

I thought Tanner Glass was fine to be honest, including when he was scapegoated on these boards. Dude is a firecracker and he definitely had some wheels. It took him a bit but I don't think his play declined, in fact I thought it had improved season after season.

Fun story: I played with Pat Maroon for a hockey tournament around 13 years ago here in New York (he drove from St. Louis). We were playing a team that was solid and also *very* chippy - to the point where the team we were playing against (who also represented New York) had a bad reputation inside and out of the state. Anyways, Pat Maroon set the tone right away, got in the kid's faces right off the drop. We won the game quite handsomely because everyone else had played a bigger game on my team.

McLeod, Glass and all the like are bums and going to be extinct in about 5 years

They bring nothing useful, except penalties against the team

Not for nothing we acquired

3 first round picks in 2017

Andersson
Chytil
DeAngelo (I include DeAngelo just because he’s a former first rounder included in Stepan deal)

3 first round picks in 2018

Kravstov
Miller
Lundkvist

We’ll almost certainly have 3 more this year.

That’s a hell of a lot of talent to add in a 3 year period. That’s not including Howden who’s another first rounder or Hajek a very highly touted second rounder.

This team is going to be ready to go back to the playoffs very quickly imo.

You add Panarin this summer and you’re going for the playoffs right away. The teams around us aren’t very good. Just aren’t and the caps and penguins eventually have to start falling off probably around the time we are going back up. We’ll have a head start on them.
You forgot Howden for 2018 added. He was drafted 27th overall in 2016.

But the points you are making are what I have been saying as well. If you cannot find talent in all of those 1st Round picks added from 2017-2019 then you have much bigger problems. And thats even if you dont end up with a lottery pick.

All of this should only make you want to sign Panarin more. You are adding to what should be a deep cupboard. Lets not forget the multiple 2nds and 3rds as well. Just imagine if someone in the later rounds pans out.

This, I agree with this 100%... Remember later year when Gorton said he wanted Near-NHL prospects? Guys like Howden and Hajek are exactly what he was talking about. I know i myself misconstrued it to think that they wanted guys who were 3 months away, I'm sure a lot of others did as well. 1 year is not a long time. We're not even 1/5 of the way through the season and we've already seen a huge amount of growth in almost all of our guys except for Skjei, who is playing at what most people thought he was (2nd pair guy).

Adding Panarin gets you that elite player for just $. Add to that a top 10 pick (preferably a top 3 pick but who knows), plus two more first rounders, plus all the 2017 guys growing. This scouting staff has identified talents very well the past 3 drafts. It's finally time to be optimistic.

Hayes is a third line center on a good team. We already have younger and cheaper options (with great growth potential) on hand to fill that job. Do you really think we can win a Stanley Cup with Hayes as a second line center?

The problem I see is that a team trading for him today is they are going to want to extend him. It takes two to dance. Once that conversation starts, it doesn’t stop. Everyone will know whether he will or wont sign an extension with another team and the Rangers will have to manage accordingly.

If someone else wants Hayes and is willing to make the investment, the deal happens sooner than later. If not, he’s a playoff rental.

Good call on the bold, that's basically *the* summary of hayes this year.

I move Zibanejad to wing if we draft that franchise center no doubt. He’s a shooter he’d be great on the wing especially a few years down the line. I don’t move him at all.

Just saying

Panarin Hughes Zibanejad
Kreider Chytil Kravstov
Andersson Howden Fast

All day.
My point was if we draft a FRANCHISE center so a guy that by definition would be a better player than Zibanejad, I’d love to keep him and move him to wing where as a shooter I think he’d thrive with a guy like that feeding him
Or you can play him at 2C, considering he’s thriving at the position right now.
Not to mention the vets we probably keep to build around Zibanejad kreider Skjei all first rounders. Mika and Brady 25 and under.

Should be a much more talented group chasing the Cup this time around. Still need a couple elite guys to emerge though.

God all of this is making me cream my pants. ZBad was money next to Andersson in the WC's this past year. If Andersson can play top line minutes with Zbad on his side that's a big win. If it ends up being Chytil then that's OK too!

I would love this trade. Get even younger, make PIT pay the in-division price.

Ironically, Parros is the guy who is making those guys extinct, which he was doing the same shit 5 years ago. Mix that with all the millennials coming into the league, yes, soon enough players will be penalized for hitting.
