Roster Building Thread: Part XIV (To trade or not to trade is the question)

Lavi plays that 4th line a lot. He seems to trust Edstrom, who is a demon on the forecheck and carrick (even if he’s prone to dumb penalties). I think Berard would add to their effectiveness. Another pest pressuring the defense.
Yeah, I dont mind Berard on the 4th as long as they get minutes. This season Edstrom’s ATOI is 8:38. I’ll assume that’s what Berard would get. I’m on the fence there. If it were 10ish I’d feel better, but at least it’s not 7 or less. Berard also gives the 4th a bit more scoring threat.

Berard is too good to play on the 4th line. If he’s playing it’s in place of Smith or Kakko.

The guy id like to see replace Vesey eventually is Chmelar but that’s a later in the season/next season thing.
I agree but I'd still like to have his energy present for the time being.

I’m fine with moving Lindgren, especially with the short term deal he’s on.

The rangers focus should be building a top 6 around Laffy/Cuylle/and absolute show stopper Perrault coming up….
Fox is only 26, mancinni seems to have the size, skating ability, and puck skills to be a solid top 6 cheap D for the next few years.
Schneider should also be in the long range plans…
Miller is a tough 1… I keep waiting for him to take the next step and he keeps making similar stupid gaffes that make me lose my shit.
How many years and big $$ do the FO really want to invest in this guy?

I like Kreider he can be a top 9 FWD to the end of his deal even if Cuylle over takes him on the roster in the next 2 years.
Hes still a bull and responsible FWD that is 1 of the best net front guys on the league.

Some interesting guys in the farm system too.

I’m starting to hate Zibby with a passion. I normally just don’t like him but I’m really starting to hate him and with his years and NMC that’s not a good situation……

Moving him is # 1 on my agenda if I’m GM….
( I realize this could take a couple years)

Moving chytil for a reliable option is also high on my list. I like him, but his dependability is garbage.
Can’t have ??? Like that if you want to go far in the playoffs. Fact.

It’s not gloom and doom, but it’s not all roses and sunshine either.
This year was kind of a run it back season due to lack of cap space and the Trouba fiasco…
NYR needs to take a long hard look at a few guys and see what their plans are.
I like Kakko, but I think he wants a bigger role with another team. I think he feels he deserves more ice time and opportunity. I don’t think he wants to be here beyond next season, which sucks because him and Cuylle have been solid so far this year.
Does Panarin resign? And how much and how long????
Or do you turn over the keys to Laffy/cuylle/perrault/‘maybe kakko???
To go with Zibby/kreids/tro vets????
Big questions and big answers needed
Yeah, if we can move Zibs without eating too much shit, we absolutely should.
I think Mancini is a bottom/mid pairing D for the next 8 years.
If we can pull off a “hockey” trade involving Miller, we should. He’s still got so much potential but I feel like he won’t be worth his next contract. If we can trade him for a less “flashy”, steadier guy of similar age who can move the puck, we should do it.
I’d like to keep Kreider. But he shouldn’t be getting more than 3rd line 5v5 minutes ever again. Let him run amok on special teams. Still well worth his contract. Of course if someone bowls us over with an offer…
Laf, Fox, Cuylle, Schneider, Kakko, Gabe… that should be our core next year and moving forward. I think it would be foolish to trade Kakko, but as always it depends on the deal. Just give him more minutes and Kreids fewer, and he’s going to be happy. Wish Chytil was more durable, but I don’t think we can count on him yet.
I think Othmann will be a top six wing teams hate to play against.
I like what I see coming with solid, non star (other than GP) prospects in the system. Probably more than we can fit on the roster, so there’s trade capital there. Rempe, Laba, BMB, Roo, Fortescue, Emery, Chemlaf and more all look like they have NHL potential.
Igor. The 11.5 million dollar man. He’s signed for 8 years. And tradeable until 7/1/25 at least… who knows what might happen if this team absolutely shits the bed…
I can see Panarin giving a team friendly re-up. I think he truly loves it here and he’s already made enormous bank. If he’s willing so should we be.

If I'm Drury, this coaching staff, the whole of them, is not going anywhere.

I move out 4-6 players before I even consider firing one coaching staff member.

Mika, Kreider need to get their shot together or move the f*** on.

Fox also need to get his shit together. Not moving him, but he seems to be playing a pedestrian game this year.

I'd like to see him be a bit more dominant during games. His lack of foot speed is probably skewing my opinion, but he doesn't look nearly like the guy that won a Norris.
Fox is approaching Stepan foot speed.

Anaheim wanted to send Fowler to the Rangers in the Trouba deal. The Rangers said no.

EF said he heard a lot of noise about the Rangers last week.

Fox's speed has not changed. He also looked back to himself last night in the offensive zone. He was dancing on the blueline and set up a lot of opportunities. He's going to be just fine once they find a legitimate defensive partner for him.
There are two ends of the ice.

You have to assume Drury wants the flexibility for another big move. Fowler has lost a step but that would have been a significant upgrade.

I think Fox is going through it mentally. Any time a play doesn’t work out you can see his frustration. He’ll get through it. He’s still only 26, as a D man just hitting his prime.

The Rangers board: "Fox seems a bit frustrated and I don't like it!"

Fox has been fine away from Lindgren.

Lindgren destroys whatever pair he plays on and it was the same way last year. Fox with pretty up any other partner gave up little in the way of shots and chances and Lindgren was bad with everyone.

People are only noticing it more this year because Lindgren is even worse and the Lindgren-Fox pair dont have crazy goaltending numbers to skew the goals total.

Everyone all of a sudden having a problem with Fox being slow is hilarious.

He’s no slower than he’s ever been.

Would be nice if we could try icing 6 players who mostly pass the puck to their own team before running Fox out of town

Paying your goalie $11.5M and then icing a bunch of defense first plugs is how you get the Lundqvist era...if you're gonna retain the highest paid G in the league he should be able to cover up for deficiencies in the d zone, or else what's the point?
