Roster Building Thread: Part XIV (To trade or not to trade is the question)

Again....

1 Immediately trade now useless Lindgren and Vesey
thanks for your service, sorry, but to quote the late, great George Harrison:
All Things Must Pass

bring up Rempe, stop screwing around give him reg 4th line mins, growing pains and all
enjoy the energy and the good vibes

2. Keep Kreider, move Zib for whatever, as long as you get him to waive
[VAN/LAK/NYI/NJD]
just want gone, addition by subtraction

3. Holding pattern, Panarin
ok for now, if he wants out go young if there is a decent enuf offer

play da kids

I agree we need to move on from Lindgren but we need some snarl on the back end. This team currently has none

Panarin-Trocheck-Laf
Kreider-Zibanejad-Smith
Cuylle-Chytil-Kakko
Edstrom-Carrick-Berard

Vaak-Fox
Mileer-Schneider
Jones-Mancini

Walman makes the most sense.

He’s solid and a good AAV for next season too.

Maybe Lauzon for the 3rd pair with Mancini?

Walman Fox
KAM Schneider
Lauzon Mancini
Jones

Not sexy but better

Heard alot of talk about player movement from the beat writers.

Havent heard much of anything from the beat writers about potential coaching changes. Reaching that critical stage.
No it isn't. If they fire another coach it enables to players. This has become a battle between the players and the management. The management isnt giving the players another out by firing another coach. That ship sailed...

Putting berard on the 4th line is criminal if you want to reward hustle and effort. Just send him down the Hartford to score 30g instead of playing 7 mins a game here...

Lavi plays that 4th line a lot. He seems to trust Edstrom, who is a demon on the forecheck and carrick (even if he’s prone to dumb penalties). I think Berard would add to their effectiveness. Another pest pressuring the defense.

That ship sailed until they lose another game. Then another.

They can't move all these players out. Defensive coach needs to be held accountable as much as the players. So does Lavi. He's losing this group.

I’m fine with moving Lindgren, especially with the short term deal he’s on.

The rangers focus should be building a top 6 around Laffy/Cuylle/and absolute show stopper Perrault coming up….
Fox is only 26, mancinni seems to have the size, skating ability, and puck skills to be a solid top 6 cheap D for the next few years.
Schneider should also be in the long range plans…
Miller is a tough 1… I keep waiting for him to take the next step and he keeps making similar stupid gaffes that make me lose my shit.
How many years and big $$ do the FO really want to invest in this guy?

I like Kreider he can be a top 9 FWD to the end of his deal even if Cuylle over takes him on the roster in the next 2 years.
Hes still a bull and responsible FWD that is 1 of the best net front guys on the league.

Some interesting guys in the farm system too.

I’m starting to hate Zibby with a passion. I normally just don’t like him but I’m really starting to hate him and with his years and NMC that’s not a good situation……

Moving him is # 1 on my agenda if I’m GM….
( I realize this could take a couple years)

Moving chytil for a reliable option is also high on my list. I like him, but his dependability is garbage.
Can’t have ??? Like that if you want to go far in the playoffs. Fact.

It’s not gloom and doom, but it’s not all roses and sunshine either.
This year was kind of a run it back season due to lack of cap space and the Trouba fiasco…
NYR needs to take a long hard look at a few guys and see what their plans are.
I like Kakko, but I think he wants a bigger role with another team. I think he feels he deserves more ice time and opportunity. I don’t think he wants to be here beyond next season, which sucks because him and Cuylle have been solid so far this year.
Does Panarin resign? And how much and how long????
Or do you turn over the keys to Laffy/cuylle/perrault/‘maybe kakko???
To go with Zibby/kreids/tro vets????
Big questions and big answers needed

Rangers really screwed themselves when they didn’t make upgrades on defense in the off season. There was some quality defenseman available this off season and we decided to run it back with Lindgren and trouba
If Nashville wanted a mulligan on the Skjei contract, would we take him for free? Contract is pretty bad long term and might cause some issues after this year, but he would fit well on the top 2 pairs and really help the D this year. Could then trade Lindgren with retention for a draft pick.

Miller-Fox
Skjei-Schneider
Jones/Vaak-Mancini

if by some miracle we can't expect that gets done in one fell swoop, fine

but if 2 steps, also ok, just get it done

Ditch Lindgren and vesey NOW
Rempe is JV replacement

We will suffer w/what we got and I am fine with that for Lindy's replacement

also, if we wait too long and he is injured, but not LTIR, we are stuck/screwed

Fox needs to go
Yes
sell high while value is max before that changes

1. Actually, then can
2. Inevitably, they will have to
3. How many more post Trouba are we talking about?
Zib, Lindy, Vesey asap
after that Fox while he has no protection at first sufficiently high overpay offer
and finally bread since he aint getting any younger and we are not extending him

Lindy + Vesey are minor
that's only couple of big names to move

Miller-Fox
Skjei-Schneider
Jones/Vaak-Mancini
very outside chance Mika adds Nash, a music city, to his narrow set of possibles
Mika + small sweetener for Skjei
Skjei = long term prob but just deal with Zib removal NOW

before we continue to shit on Miller: he was on the ice tonight for 20 minutes 5v5 at an xGA of 0.76 and Quick gave up 3. he played a very good game, the goaltending didn't do him any favors (he also scored a goal and created another).
lol are you actually trying to bring factual analysis into the discussion about k'andre miller? this board f***ing hates him lol

As a CBJ fan, I think and hope not. But given that Waddell seemed hellbent on paying to acquire Trouba, I'm not ruling anything out.

Miller, on the other hand, would be great for Columbus, but I highly doubt you guys actually move him. Certainly not for Provorov.
I'm doubtful they move Miller at all. I think they'll keep Schneider, Miller and Fox and work pieces around those three.

Edstrom played 7:52 today
Carrick played 8:08 today
Edstrom vs pens 6:11
Carrick vs pens 9:08
So like I said if Berard is going to play 7 mins on the 4th line with no special teams time then send him to Hartford...

At this point I think it's possible that drury will go down with the ship rather than give in to these players. I'm telling you, this has turned philosophically personal.

Clear as day and I love the guy
Pretty much. I liked Trouba, too, especially given how weak our right side was at that time, but it's become pretty clear he's on the decline.

The one thing I do support, at least in theory, is that Drury is turning heads. I've seen people talk about moving Goodrow and Trouba making NY an undesirable destination, but I don't see how with NYC being NYC.

Drury might not be winning anyone over in the locker room, but he gave this core a pretty long leash...brought in some more firepower, brought in familiar faces, and he changed the coach.

Feels obvious now the core isn't going to get it done. I'm glad he's following through on it. Won't be popular, but it's better than half-assing it, putting band aids on it, and pretending we have a chance.

We've been calling for a tougher GM for years, and now we got it.
