I really think this fanbase is so traumatized by not winning with Hank, that it can't see anything other than red for extending a guy who is potentially the best at his position in the league in the playoffs.

It remains to be seen whether keeping Igor will pay off.

But honestly, look at the Giants. They didn't keep their star RB and are a laughing stock. I'm not a fan of letting all-world talent walk away like that.

When you draft world beater like Igor, you keep him and build around him. Learn the mistakes of the past and do better. That's it.

The overdramatic takes here sound worse than the Rangers whining in the locker room. Igor was absolutely getting 13+ on a 7 year deal on the open market.

So let him hit the open market. There's dozens of goalies who have won the cup without being paid 11.5+ million USD. This is simply Dolan and the MSG pushing a star player for revenue and screw the Cup chances. ECF is the ultimate comfort zone for this org.

Of course blowing the wad on Igor was the next move. I hate this team and their insistence on doing the opposite of what I want them to do in almost every situation.

Igor better win multiple Vezinas over the next decade. For f***’s sake.

He’ll never win another and given the country club he just signed a 92M contract with, I won’t be surprised if his play falls off within 2 years. He’ll be 30 next season, the first of his new contract.

This is where the rebuild went wrong. Making huge commitments right now for a roster that doesn't exist yet.
8 years when we get out from Lindgren and Ck as early as next year? And the only real anchor on the roster is Mika?

I don’t see an issue with that.
It’s not like we’re trying to bottom out completely.

This wasn’t ever gonna be a rebuild, but a restructuring.

i don't get why y'all are convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that this team can't win with Igor at 11.5. This team got to the ECF with entirely mediocre and oftentimes truly ineffective players up and down the lineup. If the team becomes just marginally good, there's as good a chance as any.

Now what's true is that this probably prevents us from tanking. the floor is just too high.

I think it’s about not moving on from the mindset of trying to build behind a goalie.

There’s been no indication that the GM is interested in making the moves necessary to build a team that is strong enough in front of him to win. I understand how strong his playoff track record is, but look at the volume of f***wads who still
Exist on this roster and likely will continue to exist.

They got to the ECF with Igor making under 6M and every single player on that he roster except for Cullye has gotten worse since. So paying Igor twice as much and fielding a worse roster is going to get better results?
Do you really think we are done with trades? It's an 8 year extension. The team is going to change no matter what during that time.

He's gonna move fast, I think. I think a rebuild is out of the question. It's going to be another retool on the fly now, with prime years Igor committed.

This contract will be a nothingburger in 2 years when there is a 100 million dollar cap. Let's hope we dont have another global pandemic

Igor has kept up the intensity and didn't sucomb to the malaise. He has shown leadership. If we can have decent breakouts and defensemen who have some semblance of speed and smarts he will be an anchor for at least 5 years.... LGR!!!!

You don't need to rebuild this roster. You need to retool on the fly. There are enough decent assets already in the system to balance it out with some good trades. They just need a high end Center and a defensemen or two. That doesn't necessitate a full rebuild.

This roster is like 2 pieces away from contending. Not 5-6.

I don't get how people can complain when Bob & Vasi were already being paid as much down in Florida for the past half-decade.

$11.5M for Shestyorkin is the unfortunate reality of New York pricing. Would I love him at Oettinger money? Yes but, this isn't Dallas and this isn't Winnipeg and this also isn't Florida.

If Shesh gets $11.5M AAV and the dumping of Trouba, Rangers will still have $2.5M extra cap space going into next season (pending any other trades).

The garden makes 8 million in revenue per playoff game. My season tickets are genarating 40% profit,. There is plenty of cash for Igor and a chance to win.
