I hate to break it to the Igor slobberers on this board but Igor is a slightly above average goaliewhen you exclude his vezina year and not god. this contract is f***ing indefensible and I will be the most annoying mother f***er on the planet every time he gives up a goal he shouldn't have. put me on your ignore list now because i'm going to be INSUFFERABLE.

Media narrative got absurd and the agent looked to capitalize on it.

It’s not even about the contract.

It’s the idiocy of literally just repeating the exact same mistakes of the past. Igor on a huge contract will take up too much cap at a position that is at least 30% a crap shoot while ensuring that we always have a better record than we should, thereby ensuring we continue to field shit rosters that are artificially propped up by all-world goaltending and we will be every single bit as mediocre as we were during Hank’s tenure.

We just f***ed ourselves. Igor is a great goalie. It’s not about Igor. This roster ISN’T good enough, period. Igor could be the greatest goalie to ever lace them up, make people forget Hasek, etc. even existed, and he still won’t drag this roster to a Cup. But now we’re guaranteed to do nothing but draft in the 15-25 range for the next decade and improve f*** all. He just signed on to waste his entire career as well. Money clearly more important than winning, because otherwise I’d be asking 12M from NYR and willing to take 10M from Colorado, for example. We just committed to being losers for the next 9 years.
Alright everyone. This is a lot of drama for not THAT bad of an overpayment, particularly if it can be moved in the latter stages.

Let's wait to hear the details. I don't mind paying Igor top dollar during his prime years.

i don't get why y'all are convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that this team can't win with Igor at 11.5. This team got to the ECF with entirely mediocre and oftentimes truly ineffective players up and down the lineup. If the team becomes just marginally good, there's as good a chance as any.

Now what's true is that this probably prevents us from tanking. the floor is just too high.

It's not a discount when all the other comparable goalies are making at least 2 mil less, but whatever. It's done and the cap will be going up significantly in the next 2 years. We have bigger issues to worry about.

In 2 years Panarin will be gone and the cap will be at 100mil. What are we crying about?

What prime years? Contract starts 3 months before he turns 30. This organization is asinine and deserves nothing but failure. I couldn’t be more disappointed.

Since when was this a rule?
Drury doesn't like not having spares. Someone could get hurt in warm ups.

Not crying, just calling it like it is. It's an overpayment, but one that won't matter much with the rising cap.

Not a discount in the slightest.

It's a discount on what he wouldve gotten on the open market. Its not nearly the disaster it could have been. I wouldnt have done it personally, but Drury was jumping out of a plane with no parachute if he traded Igor.

the forwards are not great but if healthy are fine. good, even. the D needs work. get after it CD.

So now the cap space we had is gone so we can't improve in the areas we really need to. They should have let him walk. I'm so pissed right now I want to puke.

They got to the ECF with Igor making under 6M and every single player on that he roster except for Cullye has gotten worse since. So paying Igor twice as much and fielding a worse roster is going to get better results?
