Guentzel would have basically ensured back to back sweeps to start the playoffs.
He wouldn’t have helped against Florida. Our problems in that series were Trouba and Lindgren shaped.
And ergo, since he would not have made a dif, the smart move was NOT to splurge assets for him.
Trading a 1st+ to watch Guentzel get smothered by Barkov then walk in free agency would’ve been hella fun at least?
Fun possibly but not good biz sense, we dodged a bullet there.
I don't see the need to trade Kreider for pieces that the team needs now at all. It's not a lack of depth that is a concern for the Rangers, it's a lack of high end, inexpensive pieces and defensive depth.
But why not just sign Frederic when he hits UFA and get something else for Kreider?
Frederick as ufa = $ only is a discussion then, not for assets now, setting aside ? of what those assets should be
Miller, Lindgren, Rempe for Weegar, Kuznetsov, Lomberg.
NO
I'm sure I'm way off base here but Buffalo & NYR seem like pretty good trade partners in need of a shake up. Maybe a deal centered around RFAs of Miller & KK for Byram & Peteka? NYR prob needs to add or maybe a lesser player than Peterka? But I'd like him for NYR as he can play both C & W.
no
KK + Miller worth more
and
Byram injury history [concussions] is to be avoided unless super cheap
I could see:
Kreider for Bischel + 1st
Miller for McTavish
Hell, if Anaheim were REALLY interested in trading Fowler I'd take him as part of the deal @ $4m per season to use as a bridge to the next crop of d-men
1. No on Kreider unless maybe it is him + for McAvoy dep on the +
2. ANA wants way more for McT
I like KAM but I don't get these KAM for Byfield, KAM for McT overtures
3. No on Fowler, huge no
Bern....we're in the win now mode, this franchise isn't gonna go backwards, people thinking we'll rebuild again are sorely mistaken. Dolan wants a cup and he's not waiting and hoping on another 5 year rebuild.
....
I realize this language can be off-putting but I'm sorry it needs to be said.
bern is entirely correct, the win now posture fails 99% of the time, it is based on desperation that cannibalizes assets and shortens our window.
That is a factually true statement.
Dolan and anybody else who thinks we can just throw one more log on the fire and everything will work out is sadly mistaken
There is a need to ADMIT bern IS RIGHT and the concept of 'win now' MUST and SHALL CONTINUE -- as track record demonstrates is the case -- to have to BEND, BUCKLE AND BREAK in capitulation to my approach, which is not 111% guaranteed (nothing is) and takes more time, but is reliable.
And that once again is BUILD with quality youth
start w/great drafting
Add good risk bets when opportunity presents
And for the love of all that is holy
STOP with crazy vet overreaches
I am sure there is exception to every rule, but that is the rule we will follow, eventually, or suffer the consequences of failure to do so
I read that Fox is being shopped and Montreal is definitely in on him!
OTT is the club who will pay more
good young D Kleven
Pinto, Grieg
and better picks
for
Fox
worse picks
Find a coach that wants to change the system before we start moving Fox etc.
That would normally make some degree of sense but not here. Why? b'c reason to consider moving Fox, besides overpay, is that he will never improve his skating/speed. NEVER
A system change to accommodate this cannot succeed
Even if it masks the issue temporarily, ultimately truth prevails
The flaws in Fox's game are real, and will only get worse
Sell high
If there is a better system based on the merits of that system, that is something else
but let's not kid ourselves b'c we like a guy
