I was wrong, Brodin doesn't suck.

Brodin is great but misses 10-20 games a year for the last 5 years and is 30.

Minnesota is also the best team in the league and there's zero chance (and I do mean zero) they're trading their #2D at 30 when they're the best team in the league. That's not how any of this works.

I'll keep pounding the table about Rossi. That should be one of our main targets here. Package Vinny and CK there this summer for Rossi +. I couldn't care less that he's a 5'9 center. Gourde has had a good career, Derek Roy was a real high end guy at his peak. Rossi has a ton of upside

Harley for Kreider :sarcasm:

Kuzmenko? And where do I sign?
Tan Kuzmetsov/
I keep saying this but Dallas is in a really unique spot. They have very good veteran players and a core group of explosive young forwards providing primary and secondary scoring, along with 3 really good d-men. The Seguin injury, while unfortunate for them, really provides a fantastic opportunity to well exceed the cap for this season and into the playoffs before any rules change and, beyond that, they have Benn, Duchene and Dadonov as UFA's at years end, on top of the cap increase ad only Johnston as a RFA that should be due a major raise at years end. In saying that they could very easily fit a large contract or two of players that propel them forward both this year and next.

As an aside, Matt Dumba was signed by them this past off-season to help their right side defense and he hasn't worked out very well. 1 point in 19 games ad I believe he has been a healthy scratch at times. He makes $3.5m per season for this year and next.

Would the teams consider a deal around:

Kreider for Dumba @$2.5m + Bischel + DAL 1st

The Rangers get a RD to play on the bottom-pairing for now, allowing Mancini to get big minutes in the AHL as well as a high end LD prospect with good size in Bischel and the Stars add a power forward who can also help their PP and fill the role Pavelski had there for years.
Unfortunately Dallas has one of the smartest GMs around. Dallas is also close to a SC champion. Who is going to play RD for them. That’s why I believe if we are going to make a big trade with the stars, senators, etc., Schneider will need to be added to the equation. Kreider is too old and gimpy to demand the type of young talent we covet.

Rossi isn't on the block as a PPG player in his last ELC year. It's a negotiating tactic for the next deal.

If it's not, the Rangers don't have the ammo to get him.

listening to Coach John Goyans break down the Rangers defensive woes going all the way back to the St. Louis game.
He called the team defensive strategy “Hoping and a Poking”.
Talked about the team having no sense of what to do when the puck is in their defensive trapezoid.
Looked up and found that Phil Housley retired in 2002/03 and the NHL Trapezoid Rule didn’t take effect until 2005/06.
This could be the problem.

There's nothing we could offer Minnesota that's bringing back their 23 year old 1C.

The Rangers defenseman defend like Housley did as a player.

I've always like Brodin, but the age plus the recent injury history scares me, especially if we're giving up a younger player like Miller.

Lindgren also played what felt like the entire final 10 minutes. No surprise we gave up 2 goals
Watching last night I was not impressed by our dmen. What were the alternatives? Jones looked okay. Kam? Schneider on his off side? I think Lindy, Fox, Kam, and Schneider all look like poor versions of what they were in the past. I don't care what stats nor previous awards say. Looking at them last night I didn't see an outstanding second paring Dman never mind a first. Physically Kam and Schneider have a chance. I think Jones may be okay as a bottom pairing guy but if what I saw last night is this season's norm then we are in for a very frustrating season.

I read that Fox is being shopped and Montreal is definitely in on him!
I want 1972 Yvan Cournoyer, Steve Shutt, and Bunny Laraque to back up Shesty. Throw in Gorts as Team President.

Then demote Drury to GM only, and watch more truculance in the owners suite, than on the ice.

Are there any realistic ways to fix the defense in season? Id like to see Vaakanainen healthy but like, we can't be expecting much. Even if Lindgren gets benched, we have no one else. Connor Mackey? Love his heart but cmon. Usually I have guys in mind but I am really at a loss.

Yes, getting a new coaching staff

Yeah Minnesota fans have been banging on about him being your prototype defensive defenseman who is actually good at defending and not just a big meat shield who hits. Imagine him as a parter for Fox

Replace Housefly with this guy, even though the problems are so glaring even the people in the International Space Station see them

I'm there on Laviolette. A week ago I thought it wouldnt have changed much, but I cant keep watching the Lollipop Guild defense we have concede the blue line and blue paint. And Chytil, Laf and Cuylle have more than earned powerplay time, yet Meeka and the boys are still on the ice for 1:45 in the rare instances they skate hard enough to draw a penalty.

Did Sullivan pick his staff for 4 Nations? Quinn over Lav is certainly something.
Quinn has international experience (of losing I believe).

Lav also probably wants to kick back with some bourbon and f***ing forget about this gong show for a few days.
