If he can, thats great but I don't think he will.

Combination of the over saturation of "better", or at least ones with better reputations, wingers available for trade (Patches, Skinner, Hoffman, potentially Kessel) plus the lack of pedigree will cap his return at something lower than people are expecting.

I'd be fine with Fox for 28 as well, provided that we can get him signed.

Thats fair but I still think he can get us a bit more if we are trading him. Maybe JG will just have to be creative in other ways to get something a bit more for him

Fox could go the UFA route that both Hayes/Vesey used.

Rangers would be trading for his rights, they expire, If they expire before he signs with the Rangers (or any team that holds his rights) he can become a UFA.

Would anyone do:

Fox + Conditional 2020 1st for BOS 1st?

Calgary gets a 1st this year and the Rangers get a 1st if Fox eventually doesn't sign. Otherwise the team may be happy to get Fox

That is an interesting idea. I'm not sure exactly when his rights expire, it may have to be a 2021 first if they expire after the 2020 draft had already taken place. Also probably a little more complicated as Calgary would want it lottery protected, but all the same I think it's an interesting idea.

I’d be looking for a dumb team that will leave the first unprotected

Like Florida, or Carolina perhaps

Calgary already laerned how that can burn you, so they won’t do it again, i presume

Yeah, but at the same time, a pick is not lottery protected more than one year. If Calgary miss the POs next season too, we would get their 2020 first instead — why can’t that be a lottery pick too?

How is this minor tweek to the initial proposal.

to Rangers - Fox + 3rd in 2019 if he signs //// or 1st in 2019 (protected) + a 3rd in 2019 if he don't sign

to Calgary - Bostons 1st this year.

Athletic had a top-25 buyout options list, and they listed Steve Mason on it. I’d take an asset from Winnipeg to eat the last year on Mason’s contract. He’d be a better backup that Pavelec and it forces Georgiev to be the full-time starter in Hartford, as he should be

Orpik is another possibility. Only 1 year left at 5.5 mil, but they need the money to re-sign Carlson.

Maybe a bit of an overpayment?

The Rangers got Tim Erixon (who was a #1 pick) for Roman Horak and two 2nds...

Depends what they’d give up honestly. I don’t see anything appealing from them, but maybe we could squeeze back a 2019 2nd

2nd + 3rd for Fox + conditional 2nd?

Similar premise. Just trying to figure out what may work.

Count me in the group that would like to see Gorton add a guy like Paul Martin, Brooks Orpik, Steve Mason who have a single year left and whose teams could use the cap space. I also think one of those guys wouldn’t be horrible depth/experience honestly.

if i'm NYR, i shoot for Toffoli for a late 1st, or a combo of a 2nd and 3rd. 26 years old, right handed shot who loves to shoot. 2 years left on his deal at a 4.6 mil cap hit.

jmo, tho

Seriously:

Zucc + 26th

OR

Spoon + 26th

What would be the return on these packages, I could see a team biting on those for sure.

Looking at you EDM, FLA, CGY & ARI

What do y’all think?

So we have him for 2 years, while we are rebuilding, then have to sign him to a big deal at age 28. Yeah, no thanks. It would take more than a late 1st anyway.

I honestly don't see the point in taking a backup back unless it's a gross overpayment. If this is a rebuild with modest expectations, Georgiev should get 20-25 starts and is on year 2/3 of an ELC.
