Since you're so busy trading those two...if the Rangers are in the playoff race by late February it may not happen.

Keep that in mind.
We were in the playoff race last year at the TDL and had no problem sending out a letter and trading a bunch of our guys

It's not a rink thing, it's more of a culture thing. Time will tell. Kuznetsov has a nice article elaborating on some of my points. Again, at this point, no one is going to sell me that Kravtsov is 100% on this roster come next October.

How We Play Hockey in Russia | By Evgeny Kuznetsov

Article from 3 years ago, it ends with "Who knows, maybe some bored Russian kid is watching my YouTube now. That would be cool." and I can't help but think "That bored Russian kid was probably Kravtsov at age 16 hahahahaha.

The Kuznetsov article gives great insight in the differences between KHL and NHL hockey. And rink-size is not an issue. It's a myth.

The problem isn't that the Devils traded the 9th pick but that they traded it for a goalie

Trading a 9th overall pick for a goalie isn't the best idea, I'll agree, but my point was more than that timing was wrong. Schneider's best years were when the team sucked.

You forgot to mention the other core players already on the Hawks team.

Hossa wasn't driving force on all of those Cup wins.

The Rangers are still looking at adding core players.

If the Rangers get to the point where they are in position to win it all, they can pursue outside help.

The Rangers are a quite a while a way from that point in time.

The Rangers aren't ready to win right now.
Do you realize that there may not be help when the timing is perfect? When was the last time a legitimate elite PPG winger was available in UFA at age 27/28?

It’s not as simple as when we’re all set lets get help. Help will most likely not be available, especially through the UFA route.

Panarin will be 27.

The aging curve is not kind.
6 of the top 10 scorers in the league last year were 30 or older (Malkin, Giroux, Wheeler, Crosby, Kessel and Kopitar) Ovechkin (32) led the league in goals and Eric Staal (33) was fourth. Panarin is in that conversation.

There is also the added benefit of adding a Russian with several younger players coming in he same time frame.

There is risk. There is always risk. But there was risk when the Bruins signed Chara, the Ducks signed Niedermeyer and the Leafs signed Tavares.

At least we’re not arguing about Jordan Eberle or Jeff Skinner.

Go big or go home.

I wouldn't trade Zibanejad for anything short of a gross overpayment, though I understand the speculation, given his no trade kicks in next July 1st. As was previously mentioned, Makar and a 1st would be my ask from Colorado.

Still think that Hayes and Colorado are a match made in heaven. He, Jost, and MacKinnon are a great center group for them. It's possible Hayes gets dealt there for their 1st and a prospect. Time will tell.

A 1st+Makar is a package I'd be happy with despite not being a huge Makar-fan. With Girard in Colorado now, it might open up the possibility of them trading Makar

I wouldn't count on that. Girard plays the left side and Makar the right. Barrie has 1 more year left on his contract after this. Are they re-signing him at age 29? Or are they hoping that Makar can fill that spot for cheaper? They have Johnson under contract for 4 more years, so he probably isn't going anywhere soon, even though he's 30 already. If they decide to keep both Johnson and Barrie, I could see them moving Makar, but that isn't the direction I would go if I were Sakic.

I think some are you are getting really nutty over a player that isn't very good 5v5, in Zib.

If we're being realistic, I'd expect something like the COL 1st and a prospect like Sampo Ranta.

Will Zib's NMC have the 10 team no trade?

According to capfriendly.com he has a full NMC

Zibanejad is as good of a player as Stepan was when he was dealt, younger, and signed to a better contract. Stepan was dealt for a top 10 pick and a decent prospect.

I'd be very disappointed with a similar return for Zibanejad. Top 5 pick or blue chip prospect or GTFO.

I'd rather not trade him to begin with, but that's the type of return that I'd be ok with.

I don't see Zib even bringing half of what Stepan did for this team but to each his own..

Step had much more of a track record.

So, even if Zibanejad becomes a 70-point 1st line center that the Rangers have signed to a relatively inexpensive deal through his prime years, he should be dealt because of his NMC? I fail to see the logic here.

Some people would trade McDavid away at age 27 because he has a NMC kicking in

Why? Zibanejad is 25. His contract is perfect. It ends at age 29.

This team needs better numbers from our top line center and I just don't think he brings enough to the table.

If we were to get Hughes and slide Zib down to the 2nd line then I might feel differently but as of today?

I feel like Hayes has a better all around game and even Howden is keeping pace while facing all the top centers in the league.

I think I trade Zib over Hayes, just my IMO
