Buchnevich is who I'm worried about. He wanted more coaching, he got it. Ironically, this time last year, his only good stretch so far, came when AV was at his most hands-off with him, just telling him to play his game.

Marc Savard played 279 games in his first 4 seasons and fell just shy of 300 points. To paraphrase Mitch Hedberg, an apple isn't bad because it ended as a core. His contract wasn't bad because of a heinous hit that literally changed the league.

Your position is sound, you don't need this hyperbole. This is a case to be made that panarin this summer is too soon. The caveat I would make is if we get an instant top 6, future top line center in this draft.

I would rather save my assets to get a defenseman instead of a wing. I don't want to reach for a wing because we are so weak there.

Wonder if there’d be more caps for Boston if M. Savard stayed healthy.

Otherwise your reasons will fall on deaf ears. It is just a noise because it’s contradictory to his position. Instead there will continue to be messages that are basically “my opinion is right and everyone else is an idiot”. RB’s delivery is the same regardless whether it’s a stating a fact or his opinion / position.

Sure it has, 2 years ago when 90% of this board was ready to run him out of town

I actually think his value has never been higher. Hayes improved his stock tremendously with the season he had last year and the way he’s performing now. If the Rangers situation was different in terms of up-and-coming centers I’d call Gorton crazy for not resigning him long term without hesitation. One way or another Hayes will get paid but the only way it would be by Rangers is if they trade Zibanejad instead, and if it was a choice up to me and the return was identical - I’d lean toward keeping the Swede.

Let's add some more context then.

Only 1(!) player under 23 has more points in the KHL as the 18-year old Kravtsov. That's Kirill Kaprizov, who is currently in his 3rd full KHL season on a team that's top-5 in scoring.

I just legitimately didn't know what you meant. Not arguing.

@Amazing Kreiderman , you should have added that Kaprizov is one of the top young drafted prospects outside of NHL even though he was only drafted in the fifth round.

Chara is the only free agent which ever worked out. The only free agent which won a major league award after signing.

One of out hundreds.

.

This just in:

Only 1 out of a hundred UFA signings work out in the NHL.

99% Failure Rate.

As I see it, the outline for this year is taking shape. Chytil and Lias may switch spots for a while so #72 can get his confidence back. Once Hayes in moved (I’m guessing early January) both are playing in NY. Buchnevich will have to fight for playing time until MZA is traded. Guys like Namestnikov and D’Angelo have reacted well to being benched. Let’s see how Pavel does.

On defense, we have spare parts available to all. Some thinning of the herd may happen once everyone is healthy. If anyone has an interest in one of the deplorables, Gorton will be chasing them down the street.

We’ve got some guys taking steps forward this year. The fight level is pretty good. Those available are for the most part holding their market value.

It could be worse. A lot worse.

Nation of immigrants. I should clarify. The people in Minnesota are descended from northern European immigrants, rather than having been born in northern Europe. This is, by the way, the reason Minnesota's NFL team is called the Vikings.

Minnesota is Norway away from home. There are over 42 000 people with Norwegian passports living in Minneapolis. Over 16% of Minnesotas total 5+ million population has Norwegian ancestry. The root to the Nordic is permanent and unwavering.

I honestly understand the gist of what you’re saying, and I don’t necessarily disagree.

However adding Panarin still makes sense. Putting Panarin with Zib/Chytil/Hughes(?) etc. will be a tremendous benefit for any of them. He will make the team better. No one is saying signing him=Cup window open. We all know that’s not true.

Additionally I think this is the year in terms of bottoming out. Whether your agree or not, this team will not be top pick bad next year. Panarin isn’t inhibiting us from drafting a “franchise player” next season. We’re not going to be that bad regardless.

I also don’t understand now signing him prohibits us from improving the blueline. We’re not trading for him, we’re not drafting him. UFA. And our cap situation is wide open in the future.

No brainer to me.

The Hawks wouldn’t have won without Kane and Toews. If they had Hossa and not the other two players, the Hawks would not have won. The Hawks with Toews and Kane would have figured it out if they didn’t get Hossa.

I just believe the Rangers need to get at least one young prime high forward out of the draft. Top 5 pick. They might need more than one. The Rangers do have Andersson, Chytil, Howden and Kravstov. That’s more than Chicago had. They need that player. Hughes. Kakko. Cozens. Dach. Boldy? The Russian kid. They need a young player to build their team around.

We’re agreeing on the point we need to draft a franchise player. What you’re not understanding is signing Panarin isnt going to prevent that. That “top pick” is coming June ‘19. Panarin would sign the following month.

Again this team will not be picking top 5 come 2020.

Big assumption to assume any of our kids you mentioned pan out to resemble anything close to a Toews Keith or Kane.

Also BIG assumption to assume the Hawks win one cup let alone three without Hossa. “They would have figured it out if they didn’t get Hossa”. If ifs and buts were candies and nuts we’d all have a merry Christmas. They signed him, they won 3 cups with him being a key part of that team. 100% home run signing, you literally can not argue that.

If we are drafting a franchise 1C, it is a no brainer to get him a skilled PPG winger in the prime of his career to better adjust to the NHL. Even if it's a bit of an overpayment at first.

Facts

You get it. Panarin helps this team in almost every facet. Improves our young guys, improves the PP, improves the now and in the future. No brainer.

I have the feeling that Panarin wants to come here and there's almost no way that if he gets to free agency and wants in you turn him down. He's just too good of a player.

That said if the Rangers end up with a top 5 pick and can also add another 1st or two.......

It comes down to the money with Panarin. He needs to accept less to come here so he can be a building block. Look at what the Leafs did with Tavares. They paid out the nose to get him there and now they're in a tough spot trying to get Nylander in the fold. So how badly does Panarin want to live in NY? Big difference between $8.5M and 10.5M a year when you're living in Manhattan.

I just view it as asset management. We have good center depth for the first time in years. Thin on wing. Defense is a huge question mark. A lot of prospects all over the dart board. Very hard to predict our blue line in 3 years.

Assuming we are top 5 with this center heavy draft, you don't want to reach on D or wing at that spot. So you are likely drafting a center, which is an amazing problem to have. Panarin could fill a huge hole that we don't really have anyone beating on the door to take.

My ideal scenario is Lias comes up, shows his value and Hayes is expendable. He goes to Carolina for Fox and a pick. Now right D has a lot of future depth options. Zucc is going, most likely for futures. Nothing is bringing back a blue chip winger. With spooner and Namestinkov going as well, you only have Kravtsov in the system as someone you can pencil in. We might be forced to go UFA. Do you bother picking up an Ennis and Zucker type, or just get a sure thing like Panarin?

I don't see the issue with giving Panarin a big deal. The Rangers have 4 RFA's next year--Buchnevich, Pionk, DeAngelo and Lettieri--that group is not going to cost us a ton--and a bunch of guys on ELC's and 2nd contracts for the next 4-5 years anyway. If the Rangers are moving out Hayes, Zuccarello, McQuaid and maybe Shattenkirk and possibly even buying out Staal--they'll be having an issue making the cap minimum. There's a lot less committed cap $'s for the year after. Even if they keep Hayes they still should be alright.

Brady Skjei is one of them.

But I heard somewhere that every white man in the US is of European descent, not just those from Minnesota ;)

Tick Tock is it the trade deadline so I can see the returns on Zuc and Hayes ?

McQuaid will be a 3rd

Then pray Names , Spooner have value or they stay another year

Staal would be icing on the cake

Since you're so busy trading those two...if the Rangers are in the playoff race by late February it may not happen.

Keep that in mind.

How do you know that? How could you say they wouldve “figured it out” without Hossa. This is absurd. Yeah, figuring it out wouldve been them adding someone else as opposed to Hossa. And Hossa had good playoff runs during each cup run.

Pittsburgh added Kessel
LA added Carter and others
Washington added Oshie

Stop with the nonsense RB. I expect more from you. Panarin is the right move for this organziation. He only helps them. You talk about “Kame and Toews”...if we dont find two cornerstone pieces out of Chytil/Andersson/Kravtsov/2019 1st round pick(s) then we have bigger problems, not Panarin
