I would think it’s a little less simplistic than that. Otherwise, you’re wasting a whole lot of time for absolutely nothing.
It depends on the player for sure like I don't think Kyle Davidson shopped Kane around but instead went to him (or rather, he waited for Kane to come to him) first.

But I do think that if the basic parameters of a trade are in place, it's much easier for the team trading for you to convince the player why you should waive.

I think they should give Igor a solid week off. Call up Garand. Maybe they’ll rally around the kid.

I’d fire Chris Drury and Phil Housley and replace them with Jarmo Kekalainen and Joel Quennville respectively. The players have probably lost their trust with Drury with what has transpired from the offseason until now. Changes need to start at the top; give the players a month to respond. If nothing changes, then it’s time to start seeing some insane discounts on Rangers player jerseys if you know what I mean.
Kek is brutal, that would be a huge step back

At 26 years old, Adam Fox is by far one of the youngest D on this list and seeing a regular shift in the league, let alone on a top pair, and he’s only getting slower and less physical. Trouba on here as well, with Kakko on the forwards list in all 3 categories.

Jarmo is a horrendous GM. I’d take Drury 10 times out of 10 over him.

i mean tkachuk is on 2/3 of those and we’d cry happy tears if he was on the rangers. So let’s not take this as a huge predictor of success

I think chytil, kakko, berard are in the overpayment category. I also think Kreider is in the shopping category. Miller might also be in the shopping category.

Also, Lav needs to light a fire under Lafs ass. He is infuriating me lately with his lack of any type of defensive effort. He really has been disappointing during this past 2 weeks. Kid needs to watch cuylle and play like that, because he has the body too and the skill to play even better. He has been a passenger lately and that is not acceptable.

I’m with RB. I waive Trouba and fire that shot across the bow.

Get the f***ing ball rolling

He's the biggest cancer with the team right now. Remove that and you can start to move forward. Hope someone steps up once there is a leadership void. To this point no one has.

The next 18 months needs to be about resetting this franchise to compete and allowing them to be much more fluid in terms of player mobility and not being tied into long term deals. That could be in the form of trades or just letting deals dwindle down in term.

Right now, they've given Lafreniere a 7 year deal. There is not one player on the roster I'd retain for that longer than that. Even though Zibanejad has a NMC throughout his deal, the rest of the guys are moveable.

Trocheck becomes a M-NTC this summer. While he's not having the same season as last, he'd still have a lot of value on the market, especially with his reputation and cap hit. 3x5.65 is a solid deal for a 2nd line center entering their age 32 season. We knew this deal would sunset into him being a 3C on the backend. If you can get ahead of it, you'll get 2C compensation.

Panarin would return a lot, especially if you could possibly swing a deadline deal where a team gets two cracks at it with him at 50%. The NMC hurts a little, but if the ship is sinking, I would think a premier player is going to command a lot and have suitors that he would go to.

Trouba is getting you next to nothing, even if he has a market. You're going to get an NHL player on a bad deal for where they play in the lineup, and maybe a draft selection. Lindgren will net you a draft selection.

I don't buy the Kreider trade talk and honestly would rather keep him than the others. He's actually a Ranger. He wasn't signed, traded for, claimed, forced his way here. He was drafted a Ranger. I'd rather keep him than anyone else. I feel similar with Igor, but this is a goalie and not a skater. I'd love to keep Shesterkin, but his deal is going to cause issues retaining the next core of the team.

I know my opinion is not the accepted one: I totally reject the "entitled," "lack of effort" reasons for what is going on.

I see a team in physical decline due to age, injury, or style of play: Kreider, Zib, Trouba, Panarin, Lindgren, Fox.

I see a team whose young players are not progressing as we had hoped: Laf, KK, Chytil (due to injuries), Miller, Schneider. There are some good players here but nobody is outstanding.

Collectively, this makes for a team that is simply not that good. A team can withstand one or two players who fall into that category, but not as many as this.

This iteration of the team has simply run its course.

What I am coming to, agreeing with most here, is that perhaps it is time to "blow it up." I know we all love Othmann, Perrault, Mancini, Berard. But these are not enough.

This is a tough situation given the cap and the reality of where some contracts are.
It’s a bit of both. There are definite bad vibes and bad feeling in the locker room and as Larry says it’s unbecoming.

But these guys were never good enough to win a Cup and that should have been obvious for more than a few months now. The surprising part is that they don’t even appear to be a playoff team and there looks to be some quitting happening as they are realizing they aren’t good enough and not wanted.

It’s both. But yeah the team isn’t good enough.

Next time start with building a team of dominant scoring forwards who excel at 5v5.

They can start trying to meet that objective by trading the goalie who wants an insane contract that would actively harm their ability to construct a dominant 5v5 team of skaters.

So what? I see a lot of good players at both positions listed as slow.

I feel like you could really see the sense of entitlement with the way the lines have shaken out over the years. Even last night they were continually getting almost all of the Power Play time. What message does it send to the young players when they’ll produce and get nothing for it?

For years it’s felt like 2 different teams with the old players and the young players being separated. Last year was the first year with Lafreniere that any of the older players accepted playing with a young one.

I know we all love Bread, but it always rubbed me the wrong way that he and Strome didn’t want to play with Kakko. For the good of the team and the franchise he needed to take him under his wing.

The veterans are entitled. And even worse, now they're not even that good. Brutal combination.

The state the NYR are in is a pretty logical conclusion of the decision to embrace the “2 windows” concept and “win while rebuilding” in 2019/20.

You end up with a vet group dealing with the inevitable shackles of time and a youth group that is good but not good enough to turn the keys over to.

“Blowing it up” is the logical next step. However the org’s impatience the last time they “blew it up” is why they are in this pickle in the first place. Whether that was Dolan, Sather, JD, Gorton, is up for debate. But it is hard to see an NYR org that impatiently went through “the letter” and a “rebuild” 6 years ago (only to build a flawed, poorly constructed team) do something similar again, so soon.

If you look at the truly great cores over the last few decades - Pens, Hawks, Tampa, Avs, maybe now NJD…you see a group of young players that comes up together and establishes an identity. They want to win Cups together, with their friends. Players up and down the lineup take less on contracts to stay with the group.

Hank era NYR had this. The media, players, our fans, opposing fans always talked about how tight that group was. They don’t say that much anymore. That era was a small miraculous blip on the long timeline of NYR teams filled with mercenaries paid at the top of the salary scale. Pay some lip service to effort and winning but ultimately I’ve got mine and I’m here for me.

These culture dynamics are a big reason why Igor’s demands are so unpalatable to me as a fan. Wanting to “reset the goalie scale” I mean what embodies the dysfunctional NYR culture that has plagued this franchise for decades more than that.

There’s no easy fix because to truly fix this requires a complete reset of the culture of the organization. Likely starting from Dolan on down. Half measures that result in a 2nd round team 3-4 years from now is what I’d put money on.
