I think that its pretty significant that younger, faster, and hungrier teams seem to cause us the most problems. I am never one to condemn effort by which I mean conditioning, dedication at practice, and competitiveness. I feel what we are seeing is not effort but essentially an aging core. With aging comes a loss of speed, reaction time and quickness. Players I put in this category are Zibanejad, Kreider, Trouba, Trocheck (although not quite there with him yet) and Lindgren (based more on his style of play contributing to premature aging). I am worried about Fox, who although still youngish may have already peaked and lost just a tiny bit of reaction time. Players age at different rates and it is hard to predict. In a player who never relied on "speed" this is an issue. I'm not ready to blow it up just yet: it's still early and the season is long although my internal alarm bells are bringing. I'm also concerned with diminishing returns from Laviolette who seems, like many coaches, to have an immediate impact in year one but less so in subsequent years. If we want to get younger, faster, and hungrier, we need to look at internal options. Pure hockey trades are rare. That would mean, at some point, promoting Berard and Othmann. Giving Chytil, Cuyle, KK, and Laf more important icetime, including on PP 1. This is not enough to take us to an elite level but it might increase our energy level on ice. So many teams around the league face similar issues. Everyone, to some extent, is underachieving (at least to their fanbase). Every GM wrestles with this or similar problems. I don't think Drury is any better or worse than any others. It's complicated building a competitive roster. Right now, I prefer staying to course until the new year: by then we should have some idea if what are seeing is just a phase and the ship will eventually be righted, or whether this team is decidedly on the downturn and needs major adjustments.

seems like everyone agrees the worst players are mika, Lindgren, trouba and Drury resigned two of those guys at their peak value and declined the buyout on Trouba this off-season

Im no Drury sycophant. He deserves to be fired over the Mika contract if they dont massively turn it around this season. But complaining about the GM is the most useless thing in sports because there is nothing actionable about replacing him during the season. I'm a Jets fan and think Joe Douglas is a horrendous GM, but firing him now does nothing. The players who have been here for the better part of a decade and the coach both bear much more of the responsibility for the listless play. A worse group of players managed to win the president's trophy last year in a down year for Igor. We aren't a completely talentless lost cause like some would have you believe.

Now, Suburban Phoenix. Then, Long Island
Slept on that game and my takeaway is that we're spinning our wheels until the much needed Trouba and Kreider trades this summer. Thats 14+ mil in cap space for guys who have been useless at even strength for years.

I know people love Kreider, and I do too for his contributions, but all good things must come to an end.
Trouba yes, Kreider not happening

The coach wont do it, but people need to be benched after that game. I dont care about their feelings. Send a message.
Bench Mika for a game. Move Kreider down in the lineup and limit his minutes. LTIR/Bench Lindgren. Bring up Rempe and sit Vesey. Move Chytil up the lineup and give him big minutes.

But instead the coach will make zero changes. No wait. He'll probably bench Jones.

Drury wasn’t saddled with any of the problem players. He’s gone all-in on all of them

Laf has seen his ice time declined in 2 straight games. Maybe we don't try to accommodate Zibanejad. Chytil getting less than 12 1/2 minutes is a joke. I know powerplay and PK time changes a lot but come on. I like Edstrom but under no circumstances should he receive more ice time than Chytil.

Time for some guys to get a reality check...call up a couple guys from Hartford. And i don't mean swapping someone for Vesey or Jones. The guys that make the most and do the worst, it's wake up time.

Honestly if I was trading Igor, I’d be doing it to a team that can send a better prospect than Garand back.

Askarov, Wallstedt (who they should have drafted), maybe one of the Buffalo, Chicago or Detroit guys, maybe Wolf or Fowler; that’s the kind of ceiling you need back. Or you can do something really weird with Vancouver if we weee getting really creative. But it’s probably too late to do any of this now unfortunately.

You’d probably want to send him somewhere he’d sign an extension too which further limits that pool, but I think people need to realize you can get a goalie back in an Igor trade too. I’d be picking the team with the goalie that I wanted , and work backwards from there
respectfully, the above -- getting a high end G prospect back -- is not a required scenario, so I would not "be picking the team with the goalie that I wanted, and work backwards from there".

we want best value back, almost regardless of position

also, you while are correct to say "You’d probably want to send him somewhere he’d sign an extension too" I'm not sure that "further limits that pool", because you do not put the burden on the suitor to get an Igor extension after the fact. You give that suitor, and any other, full opportunity to negotiate a deal BEFOREHAND. Thus, since we only need one partner for an Igor trade proceeding thusly is the correct way to go to max possible suitors and total offers to us.

I’d say if we can do Panarin retained for Nemec +, then flip Igor + Nemec + hopefully Zib, that is enuf to get us Byfield +

Alright I've had enough. It's finally time. We are handing the keys to car over to @bernmeister and building a dynasty.
I accept your nomination.
And again, I don't claim to be the 'smartest' or 'best' poster, only the one who is most creative and can help us work outside the box

move back to the opening night roster/lines.
Dipshit ass coach had to f*** with a good thing for no reason, i guess he really HAD to get f***ing Chad Rudhwedel in there. And then of course the dreaded return of Heart and Soul #55 that everyone predicted would be a bad thing.

Why do we always have the dumbest blockheaded coaches

comes down to the GM too.

anyone who watches this team knows what's what. LHD needed to be upgraded. Lindgren needed to be moved. Trouba needed to be moved but for some reason Drury's intentions were leaked before asking for the 'no-trade' list....

Schneider looked pretty good on the left for those first couple of games...

Why not? He's got 1 year left going into his age 35 season. He will be what Corey Perry has been since 2020 after this year. Time to turn the page.

It's f***ing insanity that they give Laf this huge contract to be one of our core guys for the next decade and he's already getting punished for the poor play of 10 year veterans who can't be bothered to finish a check. Laf, Chytil and Cuylle should all be on the powerplay over Mika, Kreider and Trocheck.

How is that different than any other year?

People have a right to be pissed though. Lavi has, for no reason, completely nuked what was an effective team for no reason at all.
Fans have been demanding the split up of Mika and Kreider. So he did it. And everyone keeps saying "It's early, try stuff" He did. Teams don't banish long time players who make 4+ million a year.

If the split up Mika/Kreider and they lose people are mad that they changed the lines and don't have chemistry.
If they keep the lines the same and they lose people are made that they stuck with something stale.

As the coach, you can basically never win. Every decision gets bashed. These changes don't even have nearly as large of an impact as made out. Ryan Lindgren is not responsible for singlehandedly destroying the team defense every since he came back. What about the shifts when he wasn't on the ice? Panarin is perfectly capable of playing with a variety of different centers and wings. The offense isn't just not scoring because they made a line change.

Same for the GM. All people want to do is rebuild and go for youth meanwhile even the "successful" rebuilds all took like 8+ years before they won anything at all and many included significant free agent signings/trades. I don't know about you but I don't consider a 13 year plan a success (such as the Avs getting pick 3 in 2009 and winning the cup in 2022. They were still so bad that after having pick 3 in 2009 they got pick 4 in 2017) as who is to say you wouldn't have won in that huge time frame doing something different anyway?
