It's not like spending big on a goalie is the only option.

There are always guys who fall through the cracks that can be had for cheap. We should be taking chances on a guy like Thompson who's had solid GSAA numbers and is cheap.

Vegas employed the strategy of having multiple cheaper goalies and it led to them winning a Cup when Adin Hill emerged out of nowhere and gave them like .930 goaltending for the 2023 playoffs.

The Oilers need to learn the meaning of the term buy low.
Or even look at Vancouver with Lankinen

Shhhh, he's the worst starter in the league, you know?

Also the Jets are, at least standings-wise, the best team in the league, so....
I imagine most goalies stats take a nice jump if you take away their worst game this early on in the season. What a ridiculous argument.

Take away his shutout then and see how his numbers are.

I showed the work on that too. He is a below average goalie with his best and worst games removed.

Ryan Nothing Hopkins got promoted back to the first line today at practise lol. I would have tried the same lines again. One of the shittiest forwards this year gets promoted lol. This coach has no answers left

There has been no accountability here in the entire McDavid era. Meanwhile done in Tampa/Boston/COL, champions get demoted/benched, etc

Agree with the concern but I'm trying to recollect much of anything J Skinner has done lately either. The consistent thing I note is sweat and effort from Hyman. Every game he's all over it trying to make something happen. Would be nice if that spread to ANY of the other wingers on the club.

About exactly where they've always been. About an average goalie.

Not saying that Skinner is better than Hellybuyck by any stretch but did you see the way the Avalanche absolutely shredded him last year?

They were in a worse position last year so I don’t agree.
They had 2 less wins last year but they had cap space, youth knocking on the door, a deeper blue line and then had a coaching change. At this point last year we just played game 1 with Knoblauch. This team needs a wakeup call and don't have the cap for a trade (unless you are doing a player for player one) and I don't see them firing Knoblauch. The team requires a smack upside the head but they don't have the ability to do so right now. Its wild.

It wasn’t the youth or Ceci that pulled us out of the fire last season.

No coaching change boost I agree.

They aren't winning 16 consecutive games again.
14 will do.

It's literally just the PP and the PK holding them back from being at the front of the league right now. You could have the exact same issues everywhere else, but if you had a top five PP and an average PK, the team would have 2-3 more wins right now.

They'll get going. The forwards will start scoring, special teams will recover a bit, and we'll be feeling a lot more optimistic.

Oh good. Skinner got 1 game with McDavid while McDavid played one of his most out of sync self defeating games in years. Now we go back to the amazing Nuge on the top line!

Helly has nothing to do with Skinner. There you go deflecting again.

Having a 901 sv% after shaving your worst game off for whatever backwards reason isn’t even good. It’s still bad.

It amazes me how the Jets continue to ice some solid rosters year in and year out. I keep expecting them to fall off each season but they keep on being competitive. Kudos to their management team as it’s not easy running a small market team.

Skinner analytically is below average and was last year too.
Want to know why the Avalanche shredded Helly last year?
He gets overplayed so by the time the playoffs roll around he is already beat. He played 190 regular season games the last 3 years.
Top 10 goalies for games played the last 3 years?
Saros, Helle, Vasilevskiy, Sorokin, Markstrom, Shesterkin, Oettinger, Bobrovsky, Georgiev, Jarry.

Out of those goalies Markstrom, Hellebuyck, Georgiev, Jarry all had big drops in their regular season numbers in the playoffs over the last 3 years and ended up with a negative GSAA.
Saros, Bobrovsky, Vasilevskiy, Sorokin broke even.
Shesterkin improved and Oettinger was a little worse.

So for the most part, overplaying your goalie during the year for the most part is a pretty legit way to decrease their effectiveness, outside of Shesterkin who isn't human.

Edit: In those same 3 years the Jets have given up the 11th most HDCA in the league, which lead to Hellebuyck facing the MOST high danger shots in the league which is 102 more than 2nd place Saros, in 5 less games. Hellebuyck has been the most overworked goalie in the league. Is it shocking that he had a rough playoffs? And the Jets are doing it again.

It wasn't them no. But on the backend this roster is worse. And we replaced a bunch of youth on the upswing with declining vets.
I don't think its dire enough that we miss but this isn't the team people thought was going to be fighting for 1st in the division, this is a team thats going to be fighting for a wildcard spot.

You said this same thing last year. You were all doom and gloom. Skinner, Arviddson, Nuge, McDavid, Bouchard, Hyman, Henrique etc didn’t just suddenly become bad hockey players over the summer. This team will turn it around. I have no doubt in my mind.

Slight downgrade on the defence we had most of the year last season for sure. I think Emberson will figure it out though.
