First bold sentence: I don't think anyone is saying this. They're saying that due to his incompetence Laviolette is purposely playing a guy that he thinks is good to the detriment of the team. It's a blind spot not a grand conspiracy.

Second bold sentence: You got called out for an illogical take so instead of making it more logical or defending it properly you'll take your ball and go home.

One of my least favorite bad faith tactics here is the appeal to authority so quite honestly you're wasting your time responding to this guy (as am I with what I'm going to write below, but here we are.)

Yes NHL coaches know more than we do.

No they don't bat 1.000. Sometimes they make really obvious and stupid mistakes.

We're allowed to be pissed about them and discuss them. We have plenty of evidence that the current D pairings suck. This isn't new, the top 4 blew last year too and we had a Lindgren free-top 4 that was performing well this year. If someone wants to argue that the sample size wasn't big enough to really draw any meaningful conclusions? Fine, but theres no reason not to let that play out because we KNOW we're getting shitty performances from whats currently being put out there.

Lindgren for Graves straight swap. Buy low and be much better.

Of course, we could have just not traded him in the first place.
Graves contract is awful.

Pettersson is the only Pittsburgh player than makes sense

Yes Lavi like other long time coaches purposefully make their teams worse. They know that will lead losses. Then the losses lead to new jobs with huge contracts. You cracked the code lol :D

With all due respect may I ask why you do not prove your thoughts by becoming a coach? My old skate sharpener (and pretzel guy) became a NHL head coach for 2 teams. If he can do it why not you?
i said: Laviolette is deliberately making decisions which hurt the teams performance. All i'm saying is that the decision is deliberate, not that the result is.

You are making the jump to "Laviolette knows the decision he is making is hurting the on ice performance."

That's the disconnect. You call it a "mistake." That's good enough.

What I'm interested in hearing your opinion on is: why is Laviolette continuing to make this "mistake?" What bias or error in judgement is his reasoning for continuing to make it?

If they want to, they could retool the team pretty drastically in the off season by letting go/trading: lindgren, trouba, smith, kreider, miller, and shesterkin.

Keep the 3 lines that work together (so, yes, keep Kakko!). You have plenty of space to sign a goalie, rebuild the D (potentially with what you get for Kreider/Miller), and add a decent forward or two. You just have to identify the right players. Plus you have Perrault, Mancini, Berard, and Othmann as guys who could work into the lineup if they’re ready.

If they don’t win a cup, I’d take this route. I didn’t mention Zib because of the NMC.

The defense is what it is and won't get better.

Miller is bad.
Lindgren is slipping and a liability
Trouba is fine as long as he isn't asked to be a 1
Schneids is solid
Jones is sneaky good just too small
Fox is slow and soft and small
Mancini is better than miller and Lindy already

Unless and until we make a change away from dressing miller and Lindy every night, this team will not exit the zone clean and we will have ghastly zone breakdowns leaving Shesty all by himself.

The fix is up to the suits to make moves otherwise we are what we are.

Jones is the same exact size as Fox, if not bigger...with better physical abilities. Size is not his issue, he just needs the coaches to show a little faith in him.

I like this post. A lot.

But we are eating this roster for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Don't give Shesty @12. Dont trade your 1st Chris.

But both are coming.

Or you have become increasingly rude (despite me standing up for you in the past) so I choose to disengage from discussing things with you any further. You can decide for yourself which is more likely. Have a good day. :)

Can Krieder even jump out of a pool still?
LOL leave Chris Kreider alone! :D

We need a big upgrade literally anywhere on defense. Nobody outside of Fox is really untouchable to me. Schneider, Jones, Mancini all look more like keepers than Miller, Lindgren, Trouba.

It's time for Mika and Kreider to graciously step aside, because Chytil and Cuylle are flat out better than them now. The game has passed the wonder twins by at 5v5. They still have great value on the PK (decreasingly so on the PP though). The top 6 is clearly

Panarin-Trocheck-Lafreniere
Cuylle-Chytil-Kakko

We also have a good fourth line, regardless of who is with Edstrom and Carrick. Smith can easily cover for Mika/Kreider's deficiencies if they are playing 3rd line 5v5 ice time and on the second PP.

Play the best players the most. Why is it so hard?

Here
At first look this team is a shiny red apple with a presidents trophy SKU sticker neatly affixed, but the underside is rotting.

Drury needs to get ahead of this thing and make a deal of some kind much earlier than the deadline.

I dont know exactly what that is, but something revolving around the defense. Problem is, I doubt that it's possible.

I'm rude by pointing out, that you shutting down every discussion on this board with "well you're not in the NHL" is assinine? Why are you on the Rangers board? What can we discuss? None of us professionals.

Do you trust this player to not just replace Jones or something? Remember when we got Yandle and AV misused him?
