This is awful.

Tampa trades Howden, Foote, and 2 firsts?

Heiskanen is untouchable at this point. Literally, untouchable.

Tampa has to pay up if they want a top pairing defender, at a minimal cap hit, for this year AND next while not giving up a single player off their current roster. Their firsts just aren't that valuable with how late the picks will be.

As for Heiskanen, you are probably correct. But its fun to dream.

How does one actually come to this conclusion?
Um. As Lundqvist fan #1, you should be in full agreement with me.

Does Lundqvist allow this team to be a bottom 5 team in the league?

I don't believe he does.

So we're tanking, and the next three years will likely still not have a top, top pick?

If you're gonna tank, TANK. If you're going to make me sit through losing seasons, make the team lose. Don't make me spend 2.5 hours of my night feeling terrible for Lundqvist as he drags this team to a .400 record.

Lundqvist is also 36. I love the guy and expect he will be good for a while, but there's at least a strong possibility that he'll decline in the next few seasons, and that when he does it could be rapid.

I have a feeling something is up with Carolina... They just put two players on waivers.

After the press conference and everyone feels that something BIG is coming. Well how is this for BIG:

To Carolina:

Hank
McDonagh
Nash @ 50%

To NYR
Darling
Hanafin
Necas
1st 2018
2nd 2018
1st 2019

New owner in Carolina, wants to make a splash, and what are their biggest weaknesses, scoring up front and goaltending.

That's not a splash for Carolina, that's a stone sinking to the bottom of the ocean. 1/3rd of a season of Nash, 1+1/3rd season of McDonagh, and 3+1/3rd seasons of $8.5M, soon to be 36 year old Hank? For Hanifin, Necas, two 1sts and a 2nd? If the Canes were to make a deal like that, I'd probably stop being a fan.

This is still a business, and Lundqvist is the entire team brand identity. He's the best player, and the only true Ranger on the team 100% committed to winning.

He gave management his word that he wants to finish his career here, doesn't want to be traded and wants to either win here, or doesn't end up winning it at all.

They are building the team around him, we need better defense, and a better offense. The goaltending can take care of itself with Hank and the incoming heir apparent (Shestyorkin)

They aren't going to purposely tank, they are going into rebuild mode where we're essentially giving up on the season, barring a miracle after the deadline where we go on a run and end up winning it all.

Like he said, these moves aren't to save the season, but to build for the future. The future which will start next season at the soonest, and go forward for the next 3-5 years I would assume.

They're building the team around a 36 year old goalie that has three years left on his deal?

Really?

The Lundqvist cup-window with NYR just slammed shut.

Paying up is one thing.

Purposely dropping the soap and handcuffing your wrists to your ankles is something else.

SY is a shrewd GM. He’ll make a fair trade. He won’t get ****ed though.

ur on the nyr board not the mains....you don't think people will propose unrealistic trades to benefit their team....

And what in your eyes is a fair deal for Mcdonagh at 50% retained?

And we take Darling off your hands too... Where would your team have been last year or this year with even league average goaltending?

Trading Hank would be the right thing in theory... Thing is it can't happen because Hank won't waive so there's not really any point to speculate about it...

Of course they will. I was just providing input to said proposal and there's nothing wrong with that. Other fans come to our board often, no big deal. But if you don't want to have discussion on a discussion board, I'll step away and just lurk. Carry on.

Don't mind him, input is always appreciated aslong as it's put forward in a respectful manner.

I think the only one really on the block for Carolina is faulk ? Would they really start mortgaging for a play off run with this new owner. If so they definitely have some very desirable peices.

Well, Lundqvist is a very competitive goalie and hates losing. Why spend the next 3 years on a bottom feeder when could go to a playoff team and compete for the cup...

I don't think NYR expects to be bottom feeders for 3 years, if they did then maybe they could convince Hank to waive his NMC, but then you gotta find a trade partner for a 36yo goalie on a huge contract, that will be tough even though he's arguably a top 5 goalie of all time.

Full rebuild makes no sense unless we trade Lundqvist.
It depends on their methodology for a rebuild. I don't think trading UFAs and reloading the cupboard with young, NHL-ready players by trading Zucc and McD is a complete rebuild a la Buffalo or Edmonton. I also don't think they need to with how the lottery system is structured now, which is a good thing for us.

Didn't someone (Bobby Mac?) report that this isn't going to a full-blown rebuild? I think they're going to do (hopefully) what you've been saying and buy smart and sell smart. I mean I'm obviously nervous, but I'll let JG's actions speak louder than his words.

Bobby Mac called it a rebuild with a lower case r.

They're not going scorched earth.

While you're here, what's your assessment of Hanifin. Do you think something realistic could be worked out between our teams?

Don’t lurk. Outside opinions are welcomed here. Just as long as you don’t call us the Rags. Or mention Lord Lundqvists name in vain.
