What about instead of Using a Nash or a Grabner to add picks, you tell a team they can have them for considerably fewer assets but they have to take Staal or Smith? Obviously you lose out on the picks but the future looks brighter without either of their two contracts and bad play weighing down the team. Is there a precedent for this?

we need the future assets way more than we need to get rid of those guys....especially if we sell everyone off we'll have tons of cap space to let those contracts just run out. if you can get rid of them great but not at the expense of quality future assets

I would just play kids from here on out excluding Lias and Chytil. Sit Kreider, Shatt, and our concussed guys the rest of the year. No reason to risk them in a lost season.

MGMT shouldn't have felt the need to sign Smith b/c of two 2nd rounders at deadline. Too bad Shatty/ADA(?) happened after Smith's contract. I don't think this is necessarily game over for Smith. He hasn't been good enough from the get go and he deserves to be waived to be sent down and let Pionk have his place with the big club.

This version of Smith isn't good enough but it's also not his usual. Must have completely failed in his summer training after getting married and signing a life changing contract.

He'll have his shot again to be an NHLer during training camp.

Gorton and Sather are going to explain that the team hasn't been good enough from top to bottom and changes are afoot.
