Isn't this coming from the same guy who wrote over the summer that it was Jacob Trouba's wife who was essentially the road block for a trade. And the fan base continued to not only turn on him but go in on her too?

Brooks clutching his pearls because a millionaire athlete doesn't like that he looks greedy in public. Gotta keep the locker room access somehow. Our beat writers absolutely suck.

Weekes has sources that aren't just teams giving him info. Brooks wouldn't know what it's like to have real connections cause people would need to actually like you for that.

I think you guys are being too pessimistic about this team. We finished 1st place in the NHL last season and lost in the ECF in 6, to the cup winners. We did so barely adding anyone at the deadline and are going in with basically the same team.
It’s all about staying healthy.

That wouldn't even require proper financial planning.

You can put three quarters of 88 million dollars up your nose and your grandkids still wouldn't work.

I'd agree with this but then I think about Dolan. What about him? He doesn't think in mere millions. 88 million is a lot but it doesn't exactly make you into a plutocrat. Kind of what it comes down to is the degree of what all this wealth obscenity means.

That said I'm not sure why this is so important to Igor.

He is right we should consider a retool.

You are probably right too. We are still a playoff team. However panarin, kreider, zib and trocheck are all on the wrong side of 30 and panarin and kreider contracts are up quickly.

We have no replacements for them really.

So yes we might be a playoff team team, but for how much longer. It would be wise to get ahead of the inevitable decline and grt as many assets as possible.

With our young d core we could conceivably be stronger before fox hits 30.

Its not the worst idea. In fact it probably is the smartest. It is also the boldest and one of the riskiest
Agreed. Restock the cupboard - build around Fox, Lafreniere. This team isnt winning anything

surprisingly I dont think they're that far out. A healthy bedard, a legit goalie. I think they've drafted fairly well, and they've got a ton of young talent.

I think you give them shesty and this year is where they barely miss the playoffs
and next year they're ready for a run.
absolutely not. theyre years away

I mean, the type of wealth Dolan has went past being useful many, many millions ago.

He could leave 100,000 a year to his offspring for the next 285 generations.

Agreed - we have a real legitimate chance this year. If we don't win this year, I would hate to handcuff us for the next 8 with ANOTHER huge contract. I think Drury has been shrewd and is too smart to do so.

My biggest concern will always be whether guys like Zibs, Panarin, and Fox can play in the playoffs. I'll quote Emily Kaplan, "you can't win when the other team's first line center is always outplaying yours." Remps, Ed, Cuylie (+ the right free agent or two at the deadline) and maybe we can compete with the snarl of a team like Florida. In order to not be angry ALL the time, I am going to consider Zibs our third line center and PK specialist. That is how he has been scoring anyway. Obviously alot of that depends on a healthy and productive Chytil.

It wasn't just Weekes. Others have commented on how they can't confirm the average, but can confirm the offer was making him the highest paid goalie, ever. Rangers said they were willing to go above the 10.5 price contract, so even if the 11 was inaccurate, you have to believe the number was close.

Close enough where Brooks shouldn't post anything like that.

Anyone know why the Rangers do this? Matt Rempe drafted as a center but plays the wing and the Rangers signed Sam Carrick. Why not let Rempe play his natural position? Its not like the Rangers have depth at center ice. Edstrom has also played center in the SHL, why not let him mature at position. Watch Perreault is a winger and they'll move him to center because of his hockey IQ. Dylan Roobroeck drafted as a center, he should play center in Hartford.
Rangers draft Chytil as a center, play him at center, then fans spend their time saying he should be a wing.

Brooks is just doing damage control by trying to put the narrative out there that it might not be real. Igor is going to get a mixed reaction on opening night and the team probably doesn't want that. He's still their starting goaltender and a big merch seller for the next year at least.
but as someone pointed out, brooks legit pushed a narrative that Kelly Trouba was the hinderance to Trouba moving, and pointed the narrative at "trouba would refuse to report" which was then carried as a "fact" instead of the gossip clickbate that it likely was.

It's too late the "BANISH IGOR THE SHADOW REALM" Facebook group has already taken off. He might not make it out of MSG at this rate.

Yeah but nobody ever liked Trouba, fans, management, his dog...

I think a lot of us me included aren't even considering that he's not going to be the best goalie for the length of the contract

We took Hank's consistency for granted. Giving Igor 10, 11 or 12 million when he's the best goalie in the league is still not worth it but what about when he isn't? What about if he's not Hank,? , what if he's only good for 5 more years?

We're about to cripple this franchise with this contract.

Yeah, that's a fair point. And very much against Larry's typical MO of toeing the line.

People should be praying to the lord above that the reports of him wanting a shorter term deal are false.

If he really wants a shorter deal, the AAV is gonna be even higher than 12 million
I'd be happier with a 4x12 than a 8x11. Gives us 4 years to build Garand or find another young goalie. The way he plays not being a 6'4 goalie, he won't age well imo.

I have zero confidence in our goalie prospects doing anything at the NHL level. At all. You think Garand has that potential (serious question)?

I mean, she is the reason.

I mean, she is the reason.

There’s a huge difference between “Trouba won’t report” and “Trouba asked for another year, didn’t put movable teams on his list and Drury didn’t move him, and he knows next year he’s moved unless he’s a much much better player.

He was spectacular in that series though. He’s the reason they won the games they did and is in no way at fault for their losses.

Like, if a goalie steals you, 4-5 games over a playoff run, that would be worth an NHL leading contract.

You really need to get lucky with prospects and trading to build around him though. Florida made some ballsy moves around a Bob who has certainly proven his contract worth by now, and Igor is far better than him throughout the last few years.
You are missing the bigger picture.

If you build a team correctly, you shouldnt need a goalie to steal you games.

Its bad strategy for your playoff hopes are for a goalie to steal you a series. It really just means “your team isnt good enough”
