Not sure where a clear cut depth chart is per say, but this all the prospects.

Right shooting Dmen

Lundkvist
Keane
Nanne

HFD has all lefty dmen, so obviously guys are playing on the right side. I'm not totally up to speed on any of our prospects that shoot left but play RD. Others can chime in there

New York Rangers at eliteprospects.com

So is all of Miller, Lindgren, Rykov and Hajek in the LD (not including Skjei). And the RD has Lundkvist, Keane (not including Pionk)? Our more promising prospects, of course.

Yes, his stats would improve if he went to a better team and played less. That said, his relative numbers are **** too. How can you explain that? I think that's the problem the stats crowd have with him more than anything. If his relative numbers were ok to good but his regular numbers blew you can chalk it up to a team problem. However, right now it looks like both a team and a Pionk problem.

Stats relative to other players on his team? Other players aren't facing up against the best players on the other team. Pionk is playing over his head, plain and simple. Put him in a role he is more suited for and his relative numbers would be better too. I mean, if Clendening can have good numbers playing sheltered minutes, I'm sure Pionk can too, but they are asking him to play the toughest minutes against the toughest opponents, and he hasn't even played half a season's worth of NHL games yet.

“The Rangers, I think people are going to look at them. Namestnikov the center, he’s out there. And apparently the Rangers, as long as you’re not asking about their young core players, they’re a team that’s willing to listen.

I wish I could properly define who the Rangers "young core players" actually are.

Hughes and Lafrenière? Sign me the hell up. There’s enough Guinness in the world to last me until Summer 2020.
Honestly i bet it's kinda the plan...maybe not those 2...but try your best to get 2 impact players at the top of the draft...add book or bust picks later and hope you've got a maple leaf like team in 3 or 4 years.

Hard hitting analysis there

"I think people are looking at the Rangers"

What gave it away, the fact that their game the other day had as many scouts there as a game the day before the deadline?

I think the 2nd half of the quote is really the take away.

I’d be surprised if they do anything drastic this early though. I’d love to see them dump off a few guys now but major trades rarely happen at this time of the year. Duchene (who was on the outs for a while) and Vanek are the only ones I can recall

“More chatter than normal”

No trades till February.

I like Friedman but I feel like he’s starting to veer into monger territory.

If someone moves early I would bet that it'd be one of the non-rentals- Shattenkirk, Spooner, or Namestnikov.

That was my reaction to Elliotte referring to the Rangers not willing to deal their “cornerstone” young players after I read his 31 Thoughts column yesterday.

It’s “young core players” today.

Which ones? The Rangers don’t have many young guys on their roster.

He must be referring to their recent 1st rounders and the players acquired from TB.

I have to assume that is Zibanejad, Skjei, Pionk, possibly Fast and Kreider.

Who wants any of these guys???

All have term. All are more expensive than they should be except maybe Kirk who's a HUGE ????? right now.

Shattenkirk would get plenty of attention.

I think we could get returns for the latter two if we retained salary.

My guess on the pro roster, based on age/contract/playing time/etc, on the young core they won't trade is

Howden
Chytil
Skjei
Pionk

I would add Buch and Mika to that but I don't know if they would. They probably have f***ing Vesey on that list too.

I don't think they're looking to trade anyone not on the pro roster that's younger. Obviously they'd trade Belesky, an O'gara type, etc. But no one younger.

Anyone still on an ELC+Skjei.

Maybe Fast as well, but I think he Kreider and Zibanejad can be had at the right price.

There are possible deals out there where other teams could move on from players who are not fitting in too. Dallas and Hanzal is the perfect example. Perhaps the Rangers feel they will be moving on from Hayes and want a veteran center with one more year on his deal. He would be another rental selling piece for next season and provide some depth up front should the Rangers sell players like Hayes, Zuccarello, Namestnikov or Spooner. Perhaps Dallas likes someone like Shattenkirk considering they were in on Karlsson.

Shattenkirk for Hanzal +

Helps Dallas' cap situation by taking Hanzal and their defense improves. The Rangers get pieces back for Shattenkirk, open up a spot on defense moving forward, create some more cap space. When they move Hayes later in the year, Hanzal would most likely be back and could provide some sheltering for a guy like Howden or Andersson if they are up in the NHL. Trade Hanzal at the deadline next year.

I am just using Hanzal as an example.

Maybe Saad continues to struggle with Kane and Chicago wants to shake things up. Perhaps someone like Namestnikov would intrigue them with a shorter deal and proven track record of playing better with better line-mates.

Cap space allows the Rangers to get creative.

You'd be surprised what team's will do for depth. They could fetch some sort of return - give the Rangers a couple more lottery tickets in the draft. Look at a guy like Namestnikov who was actually productive when stapled next to a guy like Stamkos.

Yeah but not many teams have a Stamkos and fewer still have the money for a guy who NEEDS a Stamkos.

I hope I'm wrong I just don't see ANY value at this time.

Ehhh, I think he and McKenzie are still the only ones still worth taking their word for, Friedman just gives the extra info that’s mostly just teams doing their homework

Don't underestimate the desperation and stupidity of sports GMs. There will be some fighting for their jobs come new years.

As much as we fans think about the future of the team, some of these guys will be out of jobs without a playoff run this season.

You may be right. It was pretty stupid that the Rangers threw $4M per year to two guys stapled to the 4th line making virtually no impact on a nightly basis.

Skjei has been pretty mediocre to terrible coming up on almost two years worth of games. His in zone coverage has been weak. Constant poor decisions with the puck which happened yet again last night. He takes stupid lifeless wrist shots just like his mentor McDonagh used to which easily get blocked and turn into a transition for the opposing team. Turnovers. Bad positioning. Just complete mental mishaps.

Im not worried about the defense sucking without him. Get the elite winger.

And so based on that description, why in the world would Toronto want him as a major component in a deal for someone like Nylander, even if it was a package deal?
