I think the move is McDonagh to Tampa.

Win-Now team. Needs a Dman. Can play with Girardi or Stralman at the minimum. A lot of prospects.

2018 1st & Raddysh is a very good starting point.
I agree that Tampa is a good fit, along with maybe Boston. For Zucc i'd say its Nashville or Dallas

Not out of the realm of possibilities, but I highly doubt (healthy or not) that Shattenkirk is traded. When was the last time the Rangers traded a player that they just signed less than 12 months earlier.

It's all relative, but I would not be against it, I just don't see that on the radar at the moment.

Also, I do not expect a team to pony up the goods to make a deal for McD. Getting two PO runs with McD pushes the expected return, in my estimation, to an area that few teams are willing to go in a capped world. If Toronto was 2 years deeper into their Rebuild and had a few 1st or 2nd round exits under their belt, that's a team I can see making a deal.

The teams that are willing to make a McD type move are fewer and further between now than they were before the Cap. There are quite a few teams that are satisfied with the "anything can happen" mentality headed into the PO's. Not enough teams out there looking to make their own luck.

Stralman, Callahan, Girardi AND McDonagh all in Tampa to probably win a Cup together?

Are you trying to give me an aneurysm?

Sergachev +. That’s the price from Tampa

As much as I think we have the right to ask for that of Tampa, I don't think talks will progress anywhere if we ask for him. Sergachev is a stud dman who will have a long career in the top 31 in the league. Asking for him is as obnoxious as Winnipeg asking for Skjei + in return for Trouba.

An Eastern conference team should have to pay a premium in my opinion. There is no reason we have to trade him to Tampa.

It would actually be pretty hilarious to see Mcdonagh paired with Girardi in Tampa. Like what does he have to do to get away from that guy.

You assume he wanted to get away from him. They know each other and are comfortable playing together. For all we know, Girardi played with him because out of all our dmen, he is the one McD preferred.

TB got Sergachev for Drouin. He has progressed this season but that set his value at the start of the season. Would TB have moved Drouin for McDonagh?
It's pretty well agreed that they fleeced MTL, as someone seems to always find a way to do at least once a year. They have the worst GM in the league by a country mile. It's really incredible how he's managed to take a pretty decent roster and turn it to garbage getting almost nothing of value in return.

I'd ask Sergachev of TB specifically, but I really, really doubt they'd do it.

Would TBL want to trade Sergachev not even a year after getting him? He seems pretty integral to their team.

Also depends on what the Rangers want in return for McDonagh. Do they want a high-value D or fill out their forward depth which is pretty weak, especially if they're trading Grabner/Nash/DD. But their D depth after trading McDonagh would also be weak.

Really hard to gauge what happens here and depends on what they get in return for the other guys, which is why I think this would be a draft day deal.

If thenRangers stumble into the playoffs, they’re likely to play TB in round 1. Would Gorton risk seeing McDonagh in round 1 should the team make it?
If Gorton passes on the best offer because of the remote chance of facing Tampa Bay in the playoffs, I will find him.

Even if McD and Zucc are added to the UFAs (probs at draft, for the former) as players getting flipped for picks/prospects, this is still a rebuild on the fly. Shattenkirk isn’t getting moved. Hank is going nowhere. Likely the same for Kreider, Buch, Zib, Miller, etc.

What teams would be the most interested in McD? Dallas, Winnipeg, Boston, Tampa and Toronto? What should the Rangers be looking for using the young NHL player or NHL ready prospect formula?
  • Jets: Connor +
  • Dallas: Heiskanen
  • Toronto: Marner +
  • Tampa: Sergachev +
  • Boston: DeBrusk ++

Well put

Shattenkirk can be dealt at the draft (LNTC of 10 teams), that is definitely a trade Gorton should consider.

EDM is desperately looking for a RHS PPQB. PC must consider moving guys like Puljujärvi. EDM will have a high pick in this year's draft. EDM is a legit contender down the road -- there are many teams in the NHL you don't want to go to. Would EDM be on Shatty's list? Shatty to EDM for Puljujärvi/1st in 2018 (if its top 10).

If you trade McDonagh you have to keep Shattenkirk if not for the similar AAV ($1.5M addl?), but because there is nobody else who can jump up and take those minutes. Shattenkirk just got knee surgery, and he has a clause. His value is tanked right now, he's more valuable to us than he would be in a trade.

On top of that, he wants to be here, so I would give him the year to get healthy and then bounce back the following season

Its so extremely backwards to be — loyal — to Shatty over someone like Zucc... This team have one Cup in 75 years, that type of thinking is a very good reason for it. Shatty is paid 6.9m per, it’s basically what he is worth. We are loyal to someone taking money instead of having left it all on the ice for us year in and year out...

Compare the depth we have at wing to our depth for Shattys role with DeAngelo and Pionk. DeAngelo need to get PP time to develop, he is a young kid who is cheap. Exactly what we are looking for. He also have little read value being on so many teams. We waste him, and probably Pionk too, if we keep Shatty.

Shatty isn’t getting better, it’s downhill from here. Close to 30, not that fast feets. We are selling of trying to get younger. Shatty has zero history on this team. Why shouldn’t Shatty be the — first — player we start to auction around the league after the draft? His value is at the lowest now, sure wait and see how he looks next year on a team without McD, Nash an Zucc...
