Yeah, Staal was dogging it in Raleigh and everyone knew it. His entire value was based on “he just needs to get out of there.” It turns out that was accurate too, but he also needed a few months to reset his brain.
He was fantastic here when playing with stalberg and lindberg...those 3 were dominant....and then our moron coach breaks them up and never puts em back together.

I think the effectiveness of that trio was overstated. Also, it doesn’t help the case for a positive Staal contribution that he couldn’t figure out how to be effective except on a line with a couple of 4th liners.

Chemistry is everything. At any level chemistry is huge. Just because you have 3 top line players doesn't mean they can or should play together...

Not to use the whole...if you've ever played hockey thing...but seriously...if you've ever played hockey I'm sure your agree.

I'd rather not burn the ELC years for Lias and Chytil if we're really retooling. Keeping people cost controlled for long periods is key to keep a roster together and be able to afford UFA's.

But yeah if we move all the rentals for picks, Nieves, Kampfer, Lettieri, Holland likely become regular players for the rest of the season.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Miller-Hayes-Zuccarello
Vesey-Holland-Lettieri
Carey-Nieves-Fast

McDonagh-DeAngelo
Skjei-Shattenkirk(upon return)
Staal-Smith
Kampfer

The team will continue to compete as best as it could to make playoffs. From the organizational perspective they have at minimum 16 NHL games to give Filip and Lias, and if they are not completely out they will give serious considerations to more games even if it means a lost ECL year.

Other considerations are based lack of depth at forwards. While Kreider is out we need another roster forward, Lettieri got his cap of tea and then there is a need for 13th forward. Hopefully a trade would bring a good young NHL ready forward but I think we will see at least one of our 2017 draftees sooner than later.

Blah blah blah.

Chemistry is responsible maximizing a player’s effectiveness, not for making him effective in the first place.

I like Dallas as a landing spot for Nash. Obviously the Hitchcock connection is there, and if he fits, maybe they have the opportunity to re-sign him. Two 2nds and Gurianov for Nash. Maybe a condition on one of the picks if they make the cup final or extend Nash that it bumps to a 1st in 2019.

Gurianov reminds me of Kreider. Big kid with great speed and good goal scoring ability, but he needs to learn how to play the game when he's not bigger and faster than everyone. Struggling a bit in the AHL, but Kreider struggled a bit in his first two years at BC as well. Give him a fresh start and see what he can do.

Staal's numbers his last year in Carolina were barely even much different than the previous years except he put up a career low shooting percentage.

Which just shows you that numbers don’t mean everything. No matter his production, it was clear he was dogging it.

Zbo back down :( unknown if this is just to accommodate ADA’s temporary demotion, or if they saw enough of him in Hartford.

Hartford doesn't play again until Friday, but neither does Greenville. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I saw a few say he played well. Also, Sproul might be returning from injury, thats the reason he was in the lineup anyway. He's probably better than someone like Pedrie, but the team has yet to send Pedrie down, so maybe they like his game more than I do. It doesn't really matter, he's not helping the NHL team this season, regardless. He's in the second wave of younger defensemen with Crawley and Day. Hopefully one or two of them can help the team in a few seasons, but its more important that the team starts incorporating DeAngelo, Graves, Pionk more.

I didn’t know Sproul was injured. No, I wouldn’t expect Zbo with the big club anytime soon. Was glad he got the call for Hartford. Crawley could be closer than Zbo or Day.

Im not so sure about that, I think the raw talent that Day could bring to a roster is much more useful and he might be closer than any of those guys. The only dmen closer are ADA and probably Pionk and Graves.

I admittedly haven't even watched any Hartford games this season, so I don't know how Crawley's played. Supposedly, he's progressing well. I think its very close between Crawley and Zborovskiy about who's a better prospect and more NHL ready. I think both of them are ahead of Day, in terms of NHL readiness, but they also play different types of games than Day, and are a year older. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, we don't have any blue-chip D prospects.

Day would really struggle defensively, in my opinion. He's not even that good defensively in the OHL. Those other two were very good on the defensive side of the game last season in the CHL. Day might end up the best of that crop of defensemen, but I think he's more of a project. I think he's going to need to make big defensive improvements before he can be put in an NHL game. Crawley and Zborovskiy probably aren't so far off defensively.

Is day a candidate for wing instead?

I know a lot of teams like Jason Dickinson in Dallas. Slow to develop.. but showed some signs of being a big skilled top 6 center. He's a goal scorer.

Scouts were gaga about this kid when he was 15 or so... showed some flashes... but the potential is huge. Had a dominant D+1 season... but after a good pro rookie outing, he got banged up.. and shanked it.

Niklas Hansen is another DAL product that's intriguing... Vatanen like player... not sure of his NHL upside... but DAL has some really good scouts when it comes to defensemen in Scandinavia.

You're probably looking at STL, TB, BOS, NSH as your front line contenders... Those are the teams you should be renting out too.

If you're moving a Zucc.. then you want to grab a premium plus back with those teams... retention will do the trick.

Would have to think this ups the ante:

Does it? 8 weeks is March 22. Thats the longest of that timeframe. If he's back in 6 weeks, its March 8th. A trade is most likely not happening more than 10 days before March 8th, so is a team really trading for McDonagh just to improve their defense for 3-4 regular season weeks weeks when they are going to make the playoffs?

They might still want to trade for McDonagh, but I don't think this has much effect.
