I didnt realize one team beating another made it so we couldnt be critical of our current players. I'll be sure to practice this moving forward.
If Florida legit just ran over Edmoton, I could see it, but both games have been competitive.

So were our first two games, and the series is far from over.

It's not fair to make any assessment yet as far as how we fared versus other opponents.

If Florida beats up on Edmonton the next few games and continues to shut their big guys down, I'll be more willing to believe we're not that bad and just need to fix the defense.

We still need to actually do that.

The 3rd period last night(which was tied going into), didn't feel that competitive to me. I saw the Oilers struggle to create dangerous chances in the same way the Rangers did. It just felt like Florida had a strangle hold. Things may change in Edmonton, but Florida just seems pretty damn unbeatable right now. Hell of a hockey team.

100% agree. Looked like a Panthers / NYR 3rd period to me.

That's exactly the problem. He's going to want a significant raise the same summer we have to pay Laf, Miller and Shesty.

I guess Lindgren is looking better to resign eh lol

If it’s the right term you do it

Barkov being a mutant is such a factor here. Everyone loves to talk about Tkachuk and Bob and Forsling, but Barkov is the unicorn player making the difference here

I was just wondering something similar. If Florida sweeps Edmonton does that ease up anyone's thoughts as to how "awful" we were? We can acknowledge a gap, but it's one team we need to strive to reach their level. Sometimes you need to come close before you get there.

Id bet a substantial sum he doesnt sign his next contract here for 8 years. I’ll set the over/under at 6.5 and HAMMER the under
ahahahaha. I guess we shall see. I make no predictions, I mention only the possibilities and/or what I would like to see.

See, did you need to include this paragraph in your post? There're plenty reasons to justify upgrading on Lindgren, and specifically at this point in time but your argument for physical regression at the age of 26 doesn't hold water and makes people skeptical of the whole post or needlessly derail the discussion. You make this specifically for Lindgren that goes against what we know on the issue of regression. Yes, he's on a smaller side, yes he's taking physical punishment and player in similar circumstances show eventual regression. But this regression happens nowhere age 26. Why special case for Lindgren? He hasn't had career threatening injuries, he doesn't have a habit of missing significant parts of the season due to injuries (e.g. Chytil). So making Lindgren "special" just illustrates your bias rather than an objective view.

Ohhhh boy.

Not everyone is equally able to absorb the type of impact that he takes playing the way he plays. One of the biggest knocks on him as a prospect was that he wouldn't be able to hold up long term and those scouts were right.

You don't need to have a catastrophic injury in order to fall off. The accumulation of shit takes it toll too and he's had semi significant injuries at the end of each of the last 4 seasons. This is before getting to any long term damage he could have done playing through shit that he shouldn't have played through which we KNOW hes done as he's been lauded for it.

It holds a ton of water and is the easiest conclusion for me to draw based off of the massive drop off in his game this year - everything was just a step or two slower than it used to be which were the crux of his struggles and it also tracks as he got lit the f*** up more this season than he had in the previous 3 combined (which is saying something, because he's never been a guy who has done a good job protecting himself out there and his awareness is sketchy.)

I guess Lindgren is looking better to resign eh lol

Nah.

They can't be afraid of paying good players and should avoid paying players who are not good.

Still haven’t seen any good scenario where Lingren is replaced.

Brendan Dillon - is that serious?
Chychrun - that’s a pipe dream.

Anyone else?

Awful in that series, or awful (at certain things) in general? We saw these same things in the Carolina series, and if not for a Supernatural event with Krieder... we might have been looking at a G7 winner take all.

Remember... the NYR are supposed to be "going for it" with this core still intact. So I ask myself... do they have what it takes?

I see our defense struggling to move the puck efficiently out of their end. I see error prone players on defense, who don't clear the crease. I see often injured defenseman, that aren't very durable.
As great as Fox is offensively... he's not very good defensively. Miller and Schneider haven't taken the next step, especially Miller.

This isn't a SC caliber defense.

The offense is primarily built on special teams, and that is a problem. There is no organic scoring 5v5 for this team. There are games were individual talent stands out, but there are far too many game where they just cannot generate offense. Too much passing/playmaking. There is a lack of pure shooters in this lineup. They lack grit and physicality.

This isn't a SC caliber offense.

NYR are a playoff team that overachieves and relies on opportunistic scoring and riding their goaltending.

Things need to change.

Why is Chychrun a pipe dream?

He's a year away from UFA and Ottawa is a tire fire.

I understand the reservations here, but its a realistic possibility.

Even if there isn't a "perfect" option, its not an excuse to keep Lindgren who is a very bad one.

It is wild to me that teams didn't already have things in place.

Except the Isles. Thats incredibly on brand for them.
Seems like you have that backwards, those teams have their own internal solution, the rest of the nhl including the rangers don’t and relied on capfriendly.
