Contracts that are loaded with bonuses are basically untradeable. They also are impossible to buy out. Agents and players structure contracts this way to lock a player to a team (see Panarin) for the length of the contract.
If you were rank them, which players on this current roster do you feel are most likely not to be back?

My rough offseason outline.

Must do:
1. Get rid of trouba
2. Sign a dman wo can play on first or second pair left side. Skjei is target.

Nice to do:
1. Shop kakko for a young dman or good d prospect. Check anaheim.
2. Re-sign lindgren for 3rd pair

Crazy sauce:
1. Try to trade for tkachuck with Miller as centerpiece
2. If u get tkachuk then trade kreider. His value is still high and he will only get worse. Plus u just got tkachuk.

Then just fill put the lineup. Need another dman, and a rw.

Tkachuk-zib-???
Panarin-tro-laf
Cuylle-chytil-othman?
Vesey-goody-edstrom/rempe

Skjei-fox
Dman from kakko or kreider trade-schneider
Lindgren-jones

Rangers Sabres Trade Proposal

Rangers get Peyton Krebs (RFA)
Sabres get Kaapo Kakko (RFA)

Rangers liked Krebs during his draft year. Rangers get some grit and depth. Change of scenery for change of scenery
Would rather a change of scene Dman. We have internal solutions at wing that we should be trying out

Shesty at 9.5 is better than both a Trouba and Zib at 8.

If we could agree on that price for Shesty, I don't think that chicken wings us like Hank's contract.

Just don't do a total NMC on him.
Igor isn’t taking 9.5. Even if he did the probably isn’t Igor at 9.5 being better than Trouba and Mika at 8. The problem is having to carry all three deals

You need to consult Cap Friendly and tell us how to accomplish a big shakeup.

Untradeable, unless someone has a comparable contract to match.
I mean everything this offseason pretty much depends of if they can move Trouba out or not. That has to be the first domino, and that needs to be figured out (one way or the other) quickly

Krebs would replace someone like Wennberg on the roster. Can use another center

I mean we have Trocheck, Mika, Chytil, and a bunch of guys that can play 4C. We have nothing internal on defense. If you are trading Kakko for a forward, they are going to have the same problem as Kakko in terms of lineup placement/usage. And if you are going to keep Kakko as a defense only winger, then you may as well just keep Kakko

I like Dylan Holloway. He has had some good moments in the playoffs for Edmonton.

Winnipeg will try to move Ehlers. Terrible playoff player. Good regular season player. One year remaining. $6M AAV. Kakko for Ehlers? He would make the Rangers better.

I would take Ehlers. He's great at 5v5.

That leads me to believe his playoff performances may be a sampling error. He's played six playoff games in the last two years.

I would love Ehlers. We could use that speed. Not sure trading Kakko for him would work with our cap situation though.

I see the Rangers making deals for guys on short term contracts, like Ehlers, if they want to improve for next year. They can't add guys with term knowing that they have to pay Igor and Laf. I bet they circle back on Buchnevich as well, even though you'd be quadrupling down on the wonder twins playing together 5v5, which wouldnt be my first choice.

Why would we need another player who's bad in the playoffs?

True but that version of the line actually f***ed.

I wouldn't be against rectifying that mistake and bringing Buch home.

Im comfortable with keeping MZ together 5v5, only if they bring back the only player its ever consistently worked with. This is also arbitrary but Buch doesnt exactly raise his game in the playoffs historically either. He does play with an edge though.

You could sell me on the notion that a RW could "fix" Kreider-Zibanejad, but this is not Bickell playing with Toews and Kane. They have holes and the RW would have to be very good.

I also don't entirely blame the Rangers for that hole in the lineup. They opened that spot for Kakko (which people wanted) and Kakko never rose to it.

It's time to actually fill that hole and not just create the next Kakko stop-gap. He's never taking that spot.
