can berard be a hagelin type? fast forechecked with pesky possession and inside cycling that funnels pucks and gets his body to the net?

i like the pairings someone posted above. yes it assumes Chytil as top 9 C, but those pairs lend themselves to real depth.

I think a big question is can Cuylle contribute in the top 9 or is he better suited next year for a 4th line role?

In these threads we've tossed a few UFA and rental names around. Marchessault and Guentzel are premium. Arvidsson comes up. JfJ loves Zetterlund. Necas, Laine, and Farabee are reportedly available.

dig:

Lafreniere Zibanejad Debrusk
Panarin Chytil Berard
Kreider Trocheck Kakko
Cuylle Edstrom Rempe

I would like a guy who plays a more heavy/cycle game. Doesn't have to be a star, just effective and well-liked. I believe that kind of thing is contagious.

Like, no joke, Carl Hagelin changed the whole core he was a part of, and we weren't the same when he left.
Dakota Joshua could be that guy.

Adam Sykora, Brett Berard, Brennan Othmann all play this way and add that to guys like Cuylle, Edstrom, Rempe and you can see the blueprint Drury wants to build (at least that's the hope).

Yeah I like what we have coming up, mostly.

I feel like Cuylle already has that "useless grit" bug where he just runs into stuff and ignores the puck. That concerns me.

Our top guys don't play with any checking element. Our checkers are dumb and hate the puck.

If there's a culture problem with this team, that's it. One group does one thing and the other group does the other thing. Nobody does both.

I wouldn't worry about Cuylle playing it safe his rookie year and doing things that keep him engaged, visible, and not scratched for Nick Bonino.

I think most of the Cuylle stuff, especially how he became kind of blah at the end of the season, is just running out of steam. He played 97 games at the NHL level. The most before this was 84 in the OHL.

Give him a summer training, hopefully with Prentiss and I think we've got a solid 3rd line option on our hands for years to come.

You could do #2 but that’s a lot of money + assets to spend on a guy who is going to to play on pp2.

On 3. Yeah they’re not the same. Matt is awesome, Brady is just good. The one thing I’d give Brady over Matt is that he’s definitely more un hinged and is not a spot picker, he’ll chuck with almost anyone.
Who says it has to be pp2? Whichever is firing is the pp that gets more time. That’s why I specifically said PP1A. Plus Pan may be gone in two seasons and Zibs and Kreider can’t be expected to stay at their current level.
I think Brady is better than just “good”… taking away his other attributes, he was 41st in scoring with one point less than Kreider in one less game… there’s a lot of real estate between Matt and “good.”

If he can improve his skating I think he can be a slightly less dirty Sam Bennett

Your reply does not speak to the points I established in my reply to your post.
It deflects the discussion, which is fine to bring up 'in addition to' but ignoring what I said b'c there is no comeback is not cool, and while I expect that of others, it is beneath you, a poster I have regard for.

To address your pt above -- the quantity of his contribution with heavy emphasis on scoring -- I am forced by you to say this is borderline disingenuous. Not nec false, but dis.

Clearly and obviously, Rempe's immediate contributions are physical, and all that comes with that -- chiefly board work which helps with our possession, something not to be overlooked, but also clearing the crease, and helping interrupt opposing netminder's line of sight.

These are not gonna show up so much in the stats, but they are positive, and actually real.

If Rem, instead of a physical game, had Bobby Orr speed/skating contributions, would your position be the same? As and for a parallel, degree of Rempe physical adds is obv not same level of Leetch skating, let alone Orr, but while there is a measure as to degree, what Rempe has done remains signif, not insignif

And again, like 20+ games they win w/him and only like 3 w'o.

Logic hard to refute says add more Rempe, not less

correctimundo

And even if you say ok, worth it,
why would LA not match and trade elsewhere for value >> 4 late 1sts?

If Rempe's the asset you say he is and you believe he makes them more likely to win, do you think the coach is an idiot for not putting him out there for 12-15 minutes a game?

A guy who makes you win, should at the very least be a regular on the 3rd line.

How often does a forward clear the crease?
