Despite agreeing with all of this, I actually don't hate Brady Tkachuk.

I see him as basically Kreider, and Kreider is like, you know, my favorite player of all-time.

What boils my blood about Tkachuk is the type of fans that want him and all of the (incorrect) reasons they want him.

He's always clamored for by the people who hate "the country club."

[And again, this is for the wrong reasons. None of these people are mad that Zibanejad sucks at even strength, they're mad that he doesn't conform to their standards of what a hockey player, leader, and (frankly) man are because he's European, and quiet, and Idk likes music I guess.]

Meanwhile, Brady does many of the things the guilty parties actually do. "Oh there's Zibanejad whining to the refs instead of playing" (this one is fair). Ok, yeah, but Brady is the NHL's current king of ignoring the game to do stupid shit. Brady is also super lazy defensively. That's the main difference between him and Chris, although Chris is less good at it now that he's 33 and a little bit slower.

And also, he's sold by the usual suspects as "oh big scary leader and winner, alpha male, muh Messier slobber slobber," and again, this a dumb macho thing, not a hockey thing. And like, I think it's fair, if you're selling him like that, to bring up that he's done nothing but lose in the NHL. If you don't want me to bring that up "because his team sucks," then don't pedestal him as a winner.

I think he's a good player. I think also, as a LW that plays exactly like Kreider, he'd be an awkward fit. Is he good enough to look past fit and just go for it? I think you could make that argument.

I think the usual suspects that are riding his nuts would be bitching about him after five games.
At the same age Kreider couldnt hold Brady’s jock. Brady’s miles better than kreider was at this point of their career.

He is at worst equal to Kreider now if jot better. His is also much more visible during more games and doesnt disappear for games at a time.

Would take 11 times out of 10 over Kreider. Its not even close especially when you factor in age.

If you want to change the complexion of the team and how they play, that includes changing the personnel. Unfortunately that is going to be difficult for the team to do but rearranging pieces around the edges and signing players like Joshua or whoever isn't going to be enough to do that. It has to be the core/leadership who are willing to play a heavier/cycle based game. At least at forward.

I don't think I can take another year of watching Kreider and Zibanejad with a guy playing on that line who doesn't belong there. If you are going to keep them together, they need to acquire a RW who is extremely dynamic because the other two aren't good enough on their own as they have shown for how many years now?

Should just put Laf on that line considering Panarin is perfectly capable of elevating whatever random RW they put with him.

The rangers are easy to play against but it’s not just due to lack of heart and grit.

Lack of speed is a big thing, lack of forechecking.

Those things make you hard to play against.

Carolina are one of the softest teams in the league but they are still tough to play against.

Rangers are soft but also slow, and lazy

The Rangers aren't soft lol. This is just assigning frustration to an area that isn't really problematic. Lazy is another one of these buzz words that gets thrown around here and nothing is lazier than saying that this team is lazy.

The lack of speed okay fine. Speed is overrated AF honestly, Vegas wasn't a fast team and everyone loves the Panthers and they're slow too but okay, thats one area of improvement that could provide some discomfort for the opponent. Lack of forechecking? Yeah sure thats something I'd like to see them try to rectify this summer. They have a pretty good opportunity to completely reshape their bottom 6 and I'd like the focus to be there.

Neither of those things were really their biggest issues against Florida, which was that they didn't have a defense that could reliably move the puck 5 feet outside of Fox and Gustafsson. Thats a much bigger issue than the above. Had they had legit top 4 bodies in place of Lindgren and Trouba they win this series. f*** if they had replaced just ONE of them with a worthy body it could have been enough. Thats with the forwards being what they were (which again they are objectively quite imperfect.)

You can add Tkachuk and all the tough/grit/forechecking in the world. You still aren't going to win with Lindgren and Trouba in your top 4.

Laine or Zegras is not the answer, you guys will forget about Mika and Tuba real fast and will have new shiny toys to throw under the bus with those two players.

Fix the Defense, should be the priority, imo.

I almost want to see the hate that Zegras would get if he were moved here. Would make Mika look like Messier.

I'll put my @mas0764 told you so hat on too.

And you can say the same thing about Laf.
What’s your point?

I want Brady and would pay a high price for him, but I wouldve been effing pissed if he was a ranger and got that instigator fighting Connor Mackey(!) of all people because of a completely clean hit (and dive by Stutzle). I think he would be reined in with the dumb extracurricular stuff with a coach like Lavi and leaders like Fox, kreider, Trocheck, aka a team with adults in the room, that actually cares about winning. On the flip side I think his mentality would rub off in a positive way on some of those guys, and especially Lafreniere who has some of that shit stirrer already in him. They do need a guy who plays with his emotions on his sleeve though. The stoic, "turn the other cheek", stuff is very played out with this squad. That Vigneault mentality doesnt really fly in today's NHL. the refs are clearly not going to fight our battles for us.
I would like a guy who plays a more heavy/cycle game. Doesn't have to be a star, just effective and well-liked. I believe that kind of thing is contagious.

Like, no joke, Carl Hagelin changed the whole core he was a part of, and we weren't the same when he left.

If we did acquire a Hagelin type I think you play him with Panarin, and then move Laf up.

I know what his numbers look like and I'm not anti Brady ala @Machinehead but his ability is being oversold and there are a ton of things that are being overlooked by you and a few others-

1. Who would he play with here? He's another LW. Like Kreider, this isn't a guy who really carries the puck up ice and taking him off his strong side just makes that part of his game worse. Even if you trade Kreider, he and Zibanejad are going to run into the same issues that Z and Kreider have run into. Are we replacing Panarin with him? He would work there but there is a just for money option who would also work there (Guentzel.)

2. How is he breaking onto PP1? A good chunk of his production game there and If Kreider is moved then okay, theres a spot for him there. If they're both on the team I'm not subbing Kreider out for Tkachuk as Kreider is better at doing what they do on the PP. I know someone will say "DURR MIKA LOLZ!" Congrats, you've now replaced Mika with someone who is worse at his PP role than you think Mika is.

3. He's not nearly as good as Matt and there seems to be this notion that he's the same player. He can't hold Matt's jock.
As far as 2) you construct a PP1A with him and Laf on it. If there is anything the NJ series last year and the Panthers series this year taught us, it's that we cant be a one trick pony on the PP.
3) is accurate. Matt is a way better hockey player capable of 100+ points, but Brady has his strengths over Matt as well. They aren't the same player for sure. They aren't even the same TYPE of player...
