Roster Building Thread - Part XI (Off-season edition)

The Rangers will be getting a contract back for Trouba, no doubt. And the team needs too-6 scoring right wing and a partner for Fox. Your thinking direction is on point.

Lindgren can probably be moved for draft capital. For Kakko I’m hoping they will get a roster piece of the same “needs a clean slate to realize higher potential ” nature.

I understand your thinking but some really great players have been traded. I do not see any of them outside of maybe Laf/Igor as untouchable. Even Laf and Igor would be available for the right deal. If Colorado offered Mckinnon and Makar for Laf and Fox would the Rangers turn it down?

Imagine starting the playoff series against the Panthers with Brady Tkachuk on line one for 20 +minutes a game . I think he would be of more benefit than any forward we had going in that series and would inflict as much if not more punishment then both Matthew Tkachuk and Bennett combined . We need to be harder to play against and that is what Tkachul brings......and you gotta give to get . What a player !!!

Brady tkachuk has been in the nhl for 6 years, has been a ppg player once in his career.
He’s been captain for 3 years and his team has been talented but a bottom feeder for the entire time.
He brings “tuffness” and stupid penalties and absolutely has cost his team wins, with those stupid penalties.
The obsession with him is beyond insane.

Are the rangers moving one of Ck,Panarin, Mika or trocheck? Because if not he’s not getting pp1 time, and he’s not getting close to a ppg again then.

I think Drury sees that need. The few blurbs in the media point to that. The question is how much will it take? Would be interesting to have Brady on the top line LW and CK on the 3rd line at LW. We would definitely has an elite group of LW. Does Brady play RW as well? He is right in his prime age. I see Brady takes faceoffs. Is he playing center?

IDK the future seems pretty bleak to me. They won't have a chance to make the playoffs until Trouba is hanging 'em up.
 
May be far-fetched, but I'd love this:
  • Lindgren and Kakko for a 2RW.
  • Trouba and a B level prospect for a 3RD.
  • Goodrow, a B level prospect and a 2 or 3 round pick for a big 4C who can win faceoffs.
  • Sign a replacement for Lindgren.
Pan - Tro - Laf
Kreider - Zib - Trade
Cuylle - Chytil - Berard
Vesey - Trade - Rempe

Black Aces: Bro, Edstrom
Possible midseason callup: Othmann

Trade - Fox
Miller - Schneider
Jones - Trade

UFA 7D
 
I'm with a lot of you on the players that should be TB'd

Trouba, Lindgren, Kakko all trade candidates this offseason.

But I'd be shocked with how depth has and is playing a role to have this team enter October 2024 with guys like Berard just penciled into the lineup. They don't want to be one injury away from Leshyshyn in the top 12. There are going to be some Pitlick/Bonino type acquisitions, just hopefully better ones.

Trouba for Gourde is the obvious move.

We don't know how Brady would fare in the playoffs at all though.... because his team never makes it.
Personally I don't give up Laf one for one for him, I honestly think Laf is nowhere near his ceiling yet. I think Brady is the player he is.

I know what his numbers look like and I'm not anti Brady ala @Machinehead but his ability is being oversold and there are a ton of things that are being overlooked by you and a few others-

1. Who would he play with here? He's another LW. Like Kreider, this isn't a guy who really carries the puck up ice and taking him off his strong side just makes that part of his game worse. Even if you trade Kreider, he and Zibanejad are going to run into the same issues that Z and Kreider have run into. Are we replacing Panarin with him? He would work there but there is a just for money option who would also work there (Guentzel.)

2. How is he breaking onto PP1? A good chunk of his production game there and If Kreider is moved then okay, theres a spot for him there. If they're both on the team I'm not subbing Kreider out for Tkachuk as Kreider is better at doing what they do on the PP. I know someone will say "DURR MIKA LOLZ!" Congrats, you've now replaced Mika with someone who is worse at his PP role than you think Mika is.

3. He's not nearly as good as Matt and there seems to be this notion that he's the same player. He can't hold Matt's jock.

On the surface 100%. He checks 3 of the 4 boxes required for what I think Kreider and Z need next to them.

My hang up is that his playoff track record makes Panarin look like Draisaitl. Perhaps part of that has been usage but it's a veryyyy orange flag for me.

Can't see this even being on Drury's radar though.
 
If Brady Tkachuk can be acquired without trading Lafreniere(or Fox/Igor obviously) it should be done.

Schneider/Miller, Perrault, Kakko+ probably only gets the conversation started.

Where does Brady play? We already have Kreider, Bread, Cuylle, and frankly, Laf is better at LW than RW. Can Brady play RW as well as LW?
