Or you and many others are overreacting

They lost to a better team . The end

Make a few moves and hopefully they get the right mix . Talking about trading a Zib , etc is comical

This teams close . It’s sucks they just missed again but you don’t overhaul a team this close
no

your way accepts we mostly stand still = status quo

MAYBE that again get us close, but close is not good enuf
gotta win Cup

which means success here requires you gamble other finalists --- Panthers etc -- get worse.

This is so wrong if for no other reason than that scenario cedes initiative to the opposition, you are allowing other than NYR to decide NYR fate.

Sorry but logic here says your position = epic fail

I don't think the Rangers should be after Laine (unless we are talking about 50% retention but how much would that cost?), but I think some people here at HFBoards (not saying HFNYR) and the media are seriously underselling the guy when they are talking about there should be no interest for this guy. I could see even a team like Vancouver taking a swing if they miss on Guentzel, not to mention all the crappy teams who have loads of cap space and zero or next to zero talent.

There shouldn't be much interest but I'm sure there will be.

I guess my interest in Laine is more interest in finding a way to off-load Trouba than an interest in Laine.

Everyone wants to trade Trouba but ignore the logistics of it. Then next year people will whine about why we didn't trade Trouba. This board is easy to predict

Ok but I live in reality and what I’m thinking happens is realistic

Maybe Trouba , Goodrow . 1 of goes
Maybe trade Lindgren and Kakko
The rest are likely staying this year
The core is staying

There has to be options out there besides adding a forward that exacerbates everything wrong with the team.

I would be willing to add assets rather than take on another problem.

I want to believe this is true but as it stands today I dont. I keep mentioning Detroit but that's more of a meme than anything. I brought up Montreal the other day because of the Gorton connect, a couple expensive guys who would be useful for us (Matheson/Anderson), and their need for leadership but Trouba apparently hates Canada.

Just a very difficult deal to make. Id attach assets to but I have to see it to believe.

So the only option of moving Trouba is to get another streaky winger who doesnt play D and is always hurt?
Unless your point is you'll have to retain salary or take on salary for Trouba? If thats what your saying, Laine isnt the only option.

So then literally get somebody else from Columbus.

People don't want an easy trade. They want specifically not Laine.

You think the only avenue to moving him is to trade him for Laine?

Ive been showing my work on mock Trouba trades since the season ended, Im just not sold that anyone wants him, or we even want to trade him. Seems like everyone is just wishing him off the squad at the moment

Erik Gudbranson, come on down!

I think your underestimating the value Trouba has in the league. We may have to eat salary or attach prospects/picks, but teams will want Trouba.

Does it have to be somebody f***ing terrible?

I think you're missing the point.

Haha i dont want him either but we are trying to trade a terrible player with a terrible contract for something not terrible. I dont even want laine, it just makes fiscal sense to both teams.

I hope so. A lot of teams just saw him get dogwalked for a month an a half though. He can also block half the league.

So don't trade him for anything. I would package Trouba + assets for a 7th. I would retain.

The entire point is not having an ass player in the lineup.
What's your opinion on Lauzon?
I absolutely don't want a defenseman back. It's pointless if we put another bad defenseman in the lineup.

You know who gets paid money to suck? Cody Glass. At least we can hide him.

You would always rather have a bad forward than a bad defenseman. Forwards don't have to play that much.

Laine is going to play because he can shoot and score some goals. He'll probably play in the top six.

Only way I'm taking Laine is if Trouba or Zibanejad are going the other way. And more importantly, we're immediately flipping Laine to a 3rd team

I could see Lauzon or Glass filling a role. Lauzon as a 7th d and Glass as a depth center as insurance for Chytil. I still Nashville as the spot for Trouba. It just.....fits

As long as Lauzon is the 7th, I would be fine with it. I just desperately want to avoid trading Trouba for some dip stick and then we give said dip stick a prominent role on the team.

It's not about offloading money, it's about getting a bad player off the ice. I wouldn't play Trouba at any salary.
